I disagree completely with the bills, but taking down sites for revenge is going too far, in my opinion.

Ok, now these guys are going seriously overboard. It's a fricken website people, you've gotta get over it. And attacking things like Youtube and Facebook, God-forbid, they're actually going to annoy the general public instead. How many people are going to get pissed at these guys if they seriously mess with these sites? Now they're just digging their graves even deeper. If they actually do attack Youtube, my account better not get messed up

You see I almost sympathized with you until you got to this. Megaupload was a million times bigger than you could ever imagine and I can't help but wonder. If this didn't effect you, would you care?

Not sure if you saw the link on the Kotaku article, but I think YouTube and the others are just rumors from people, perhaps from being in a state of panic or something.

well ok, I would be pretty annoyed for other people as well, but isn't your account also something you would be worried about?

Of course, but, unfortunately, we really have no control.

I understand attacking the government sites, seeing as they were responsible for taking down megaupload. Attacking Universal, Xbox, CBS, rumors about youtube/facebook, what did they do? I'm sure they did and will do it just to show that they have the power to do so, but attacking sites like youtube for instance would be ridiculous. That would almost be like them deciding to attack mediafire.

The only argument I can see them having for taking down CBS/Universal's sites would be because they have no doubt made copyright claims before. But that isn't a good enough justification.

Not 100% sure, but I'm going to side with that it's rumors for YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
Remember when nothing happened to Facebook on November 5, 2011?

Ok one thing I don't seem to get is that Xbox Live seeming un-real if it were hacked. Is their security that serious where even the Ultima Anonymous could have a problem? Tch this won't end well if things don't seem to get better with Anonymous and who every is ticking them off. Maybe they are warning all what you claim to be the best isn't half of what its supposed to be.

Alright, I think you guys misunderstand Anonymous.

They will not take down Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. The reason they are attacking these sites is explained in the article. Universal supported SOPA and PIPA. CBS supported SOPA and PIPA.

Whether or not Xbox Live will be depends solely on the stance Microsoft has. If they actively supported SOPA, then they would be taken down. If they did not, then they would not be taken down by Anon.
That does not mean that people who claim to be from Anon will do this, but if they do so – they are not truly a part of Anon.

    Their slogan is;
    We are Anonymous,
    we are legion,
    We do not forgive,
    we do not forget,
    expect us!

So; Anon attacks sites which threaten the internet. The supporters of SOPA and PIPA threatened the internet, and because Anon does not forgive, they will avenge.

And they didn’t take down CBS. They DELETED their entire webpage.

Anon is all about sending messages. They know the sites won’t stay down. All the DDoS attacks are messages. The deletion of the page won’t make CBS stay down, of course they have backups. It’s once again, a display of power, a demonstration. If any government tries to alter the internet; the internet, represented by Anonymous will not stand for it.

I support Anon in their actions, some more than others. This, to me, is not scary at all. It shouldn’t be for you either, and you know why? Anon does not hurt any of the users of the internet. They are the ones doing what you are unable to. Every single one of you on the site opposed SOPA.

What were you able to? Send an email or call your representative.

What could Anon do? Nuke FBI. Delete CBS. Nuke Universal Music twice.
If that doesn’t make people aware, nothing will.

I suspected that must be why they attacked CBS and Universal, because they supported the bill or made copyright claims. I'm a tad indifferent on their actions though. You say they don't attack users, but they attacked the PSN Network which hurt allot of people who had credit card data on there. True it got Sony to get a better security system(I think..), but it P'Od allot of people, *cough* including me, who just wanted to use the store to buy music for guitar hero. ._. Because of them they were offline for months, and if I'm not mistaken they then attacked SEGA for something as well.

That whole ordeal gives me a sour taste about anything Anonymous is doing, but I do understand why you'd back them, at this point in time they're trying to at as the voice of the internet.

SEGA went down sometime on June 17, 2011 and didn't return until August 2, 2011.
However, if I recall correctly, it wasn't Anonymous that hacked SEGA, as they enjoyed their systems.

I believe they even said they wanted to help SEGA and hack the culprit or something.

I'm sorry. This post is incorrect. Anonymous was not responsible for the PSN attack. They claimed no responsibility.

I'm going to go ahead and ask about the relevance?

Leaving a file behind is easy. Anonymous wouldn't do that. Every single thing they have ever done, they have boasted about. They always take responsibility.

but how can you say that with confidence when no one knows who they are and yet there was a file that Anonymous seemingly claims responsibility for the actions? because i remember reading about a bunch of supposed members who claimed responsibility and there were a few statements from other supposed members saying they didn't do it. so how do we know what to believe when someone supposedly speaks for them?
