I have never really understood people's lust to see anime. it is different from television in Europe or America, but why dont people just watch TV they understand... i believe it is just a fad they all want to be part of.

a slightly random video, but relevant to the differences in American and Japanese anime

Because it's better than American animation most of the time.

I like it, therefore, I watch it. What, does everything we consume have to be national now?

You actually think anime is a fad? I'd hate to be the one to tell you but anime isn't that much popular compared to any other sorce of entertainment.

I also watch it because it's interesting and it is a lot better than most of the american shows here. I mean I would rather watch Death Note and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya instead of Family guy or South Park.

The main reason I like to watch animes is because I love the style of the art, and the storylines and characters are often more developed than some of the westernised **** that comes out now, because lets face it, TV is taking a major nose dive into crap.

I don't watch it just because it is something from Japan, and the people who do are pretty ****ing lame, I watch it because I like it. No real reason behind it.

This is kind of like how some people would say "Gaming...what is so great about it?" yet I wouldn't call gaming a fad.

    xD

i personally am not that into anime, i have watched it before, but i can't get into it. i understand it's just a preference, but i don't see the appeal. i also don't get why people always INSIST on watching it in some language they don't understand just to have to read the subtitles.

i also don't think this is a proper debate because it's sort of a preferences thing and people like different things.

Now I love anime. But, and I'm terribly sorry to say this, I like American series better.

I have never understood anime. The closest I have ever gotten is Avatar, and even that was almost too weird. Besides, most animes are in Japanese, and I personally don't want to watch a show if I don't understand what they are saying.

Well, many of today's Western animations are comedy (Johnny Bravo, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Pink Panther etc). That's all great and everything but I like to see something serious with a solid story at times as well. Anime often fulfills that need.
I don't particularly like flashy hero types of series either (Ben 10, Totally Spies, anything along the lines of Spiderman and Batman).
So yeah, what's left for me then? I just don't know, so either I'm not well informed or there isn't much for me to know about.

I just like their stories better most of the time, I guess. I can name many Western series that I enjoy as well though.

I like anime because, unlike at lot of American cartoons, there's an actual plot through the entire thing.=/

Anime is just attracting. In fact the first thing I ever watched was an anime. I never liked it then, when I was about 2, but I started liking it at around 6-7.
People like anime, others don't, problem solved?

well i know fad isnt really the right term for it, but i feel that people have the desire to do thing like watch anime, even if they dont understand it. i agree that television is crappy now, but thats because all the original ideas have been wrung dry. we are past trilogies and no idea seems to be completely new. this is my personal preference, but a non animated show in general shows a lot more distinction and keeps a better story line.

    Couldnt have said that better.

Anime has it's benefits. It can educate you, make you laugh. And make you happy in times you arent. It gives you a great feeling. :D

Cause American cartoons these days (for the most part) suck ass. The only good stuff was canceled already.

The animation, the characters, the plot, the humor, are all so bland compared to some of the greater anime series.

Also, cartoons don't tend to delve into anything deeper than toilet humor. Anime has questioned the essence of the spirit and what is morally right.

That's not to say that there aren't bad anime, or good cartoons, cause there is plenty of both.

I like watching anime because its nice to get away from the traditional cartoon for a while. What I hate are people who are OBSESSED with anime. Like my friend, fro example, who has styled his hair to make him look like an anime character.
