Am I the only one bothered by this?

My sister just bought now that's what I call mainstream music 44 and gangnam style is on it.

Gangnam style is also on American radio and tv, and apparently the show Glee did something with it.

For some reason that doesn't sit well with me.

Not because I don't like foreign music, but for some reason it bothers me that this is the only Asian song getting any attention, and the only reason it's getting this much attention is because it's popular.

If America is going to sell this song in American stores, they need to sell all kinds of Asian music, not just this one song.

Like it or not, Americans in general don't really care about other Asian music except for this. You said it yourself, it's popular. And whatever's popular sells.

First: Where would America sell it if not in American stores?

Second: Gangnam Style is extremely popular in America. Other Asian music is less popular in America. Extremely popular things make more profit than less popular things. Stores, at least physical stores, tend to have limited space and budgets for stock, and thus want to stock only things that will sell enough to make as much profit as possible. Welcome to capitalism.

the first has nothing to do with anything.

I'm fully aware of the second thing, and that's what I have a problem with. What I'm saying is that now that America likes this one song, it should explore other Asian music, and branch out beyond this one song.

yes, but is America actually gonna do that? I highly doubt it unless another Asian song becomes half as popular as Gangnam style

This has been happening since before you were born. This is industry, this is America, this **** is cash or credit, check or debit. If you don't like it nobody cares. Come to terms with the world or change it, but don't just talk. Talk is cheap and money talks. You can't beat the cash cow corporation's currency with crying. You've gotta get up and move. You've gotta get your head on straight and take it from the windows to the walls. You've gotta take this **** and move yourself to the beat. Nobody hears the words unless you spit 'em. Gotta rap at the establishment, rap at the streets, rap at your parents, rap at your peers. If you can't rap then you can't dance. And if your friends don't dance, well if they don't dance then they're no friends of mine.

I know for a fact America won't do that.
It will probably immediately fall in love with the next single Psy releases, and then completely forget about him.

exactly. Many songs I listen to were once the most popular things ever, and now are completely forgotten about

As I said, capitalism. When other Asian music get popular, American companies will begin to notice and attempt to license more Asian music for sale. As far as I'm concerned, Gangnam Style's popularity can only speed this along. Gangnam Style is a Korean song, so fans of it will be likely to explore and become fans of K-pop in general. More K-pop will get licensed for sale in America, and thus catch the interest of people who may not have gotten the Gangnam Style hype and become K-pop fans. Those K-pop fans may branch out further into more Asian music, and thus allow more Asian music to get licensed for sale in America. As I've said and you've acknowledged, that's how capitalism works. Popular things are sold more than less popular things.

Also, Amazon has a lot of Vocaloid music and software in their store. Yeah, much of it is imported, but they're an American company selling Asian music. It's just not widely advertised.

your lesson on capitalism 101 is unnecessary.

    I said that I don't like it.

I didn't read his post all the way, but to say something is unnecessary just because you don't like it is like....some of the most ignorant...ignorance I've seen.

I didn't mean that his post was unnecessary because I don't like capitalism, but because I already know what capitalism is.
Also, this was his second post explaining capitalism. I replied to his first post saying that I knew that this was due to capitalism, making any further elaboration unnecessary.
