In our modern age, we rely heavily on machines and gadgets. From cars, TVs and the computers that we are now posting from. Have we become so dependent on technology that society would cease without it? It seems that everyone carries a mobile phone, has some form of games system, has a TV and has access to the internet. Are we so dependent on technology that should disaster strike, we would be helpless?

Without technology, we'd probably be a lot better off. However, if a disaster were to strike, such as nuclear winter or massive alien invasion (lol), MOST people know basic survival skills. I live in the city, and even I can make a pretty decent fire.

As a society, one would think technology would seperate us, but without it, we'd most likely band togethor and become a community again, we'd survive in groups and we'd make it through.

We survived for more then 10,000 years without technology, I don't see why we can't do that now.

I would say yes. It seems that everything nowadays are baised on technology. If disaster does strike, I don't think it will be very easy.

Although we are basically hunting animals and are able to survive if we have to, I believe that we are heavily dependent on technology. History however has shown that when disaster strikes on the whole society does pull together. However for most people this is a' it'll never happen to me' situation. I can make a fire, cook and probably hunt if I needed to, but I don't feel happy without all my technology around me.

The thing I would struggle to be without is the communication over great distances. For a start I wouldn't be able to talk to you guys, and ask your opinions on my thoughts. I would find it scary now to be able to talk to my friends who are far away, and travel would be limited. I'm not really sure how well I would cope.

True. It will indeed be a disaster say all of our technology fails during a natural disaster.

    However!!!

Mankind has been known to bounce back and we'll just continue to live on without it...though life will be alot less easier.

If technology never existed it would be easier. If we never had internet, you wouldn't be complaining.

Stick and Hoop 360 coming to a store near you.

I'd die without my computer... but if it was never there in the first place, I wouldn't be complaining.

Not all technology is a BAD thing... They're improving technology everyday to help catch criminals and whatnot.

Technology isn't bad, but we seem to be becoming addicted to having the latest gadget and having all the gadgets available. The thing is that if disaster did strike, there are a lot of people out there who could theoretically set a lot of the existing domestic technology up again.

I don't think it would be that long until the internet or an equivalent was up and running again. One thing mankind is good at it's picking up and carrying on. I'm not complaining about technology, as it's a great tool, but I was wondering if people notice how dependent we are on it?

Technology is now used in many places such as hospitals and by the police (as mentioned by Shanny-Boo) and works wonders. We will live longer in high tech homes. I couldn't cope in a technology free home as I tend not to think about what I'm doing. The technology is just there.

We would not lose anything. It's the lazy public who don't understand how to fend for themselves.

I swear, if everyone was just 10x more active, technology wouldn't even be a factor in 'suffering'. In this case, suffering IS disaster.
