You mean something like this thread: http://www.kh-vids.net/threads/acoustic-or-electric.78853/ ? It's ancient so I don't expect you to have searched for it. And what is "original"? What instruments are we talking about? You're implying that the electric version of said instrument is the original. How amusing. I tend to play classical but I prefer electric over acoustic almost every time. There's never been a more badass instrument than the electric guitar. Other instruments tend to sound better acoustically though.
sorry. original as in the one originally released publicly, or original as in the one that is universally acknowledged as being the main version of the song, making all remakes, no matter what type, not the original. thats what i mean by original. heres an example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Sky_Noise as you can see on some of the bonus editions they released acoustic versions of songs already on the cd. ill put them here original acoustic the instruments used for the original is irrelevant, electric or not. so my question stands, original, or acoustic?
For those two I prefer the acoustic, but that might be because I'm not a big Circa Survive fan. Anthony Green in particular sounds a lot better on acoustic (solo project) or lighter (brief time with Zolof) tracks, imo. In general though, I love when artists do multiple versions of a song. I'm also a cover & remix geek. I just think it's interesting to hear more than one take on something. Best example I can think of is one of my all-time favorite songs. This is the original: (do note that the actual singing doesn't begin until like 1:20, skip if you want but it's all golden) It has a much more... uplifting, I suppose? vibe to it, and I love it dearly. But not too long ago I came across the acoustic version: And it's far more organic than the original. But I love them both all the same--it's just a matter of when I'm listening, what I'm in the mood for, what kind of mood I'm in.
To me it really depends on the dynamics of the piece. Some songs are just composed in a way that they sound better acoustic, while other lose a lot of the complexity that makes them musically interested. I think it varies from song to song.
