As a suggestion from my dear friend twilit_shadow, I decided to post my old story here on kh-vids. This story was originally posted on fanfiction.net by TheMagnificentMomo (me)...so if it seems familiar, that's why. (It starts out on a serious note, but it is a comedy...) Anyway, this story has already been completed and its sequel begun, so I will take twilit_shadow's advice and post the chapters with a day or two between...anyway, without further ado, I introduce you to Ability! Chapter 1: The Lab My eyes opened slowly, for they were extremely heavy. I groaned slightly from the effort of opening them, and glanced quickly about the room I was in. Room? Who was I kidding? It was more like a laboratory. Despite the fact that I had always felt more at home in one of these than in a bedroom, I couldn't shake the feeling that this place was strangely twisted. The ceilings were too high for comfort, the space between each obstacle too great for my liking. But what caught my eye was not the architecture. A girl was standing to my left, a white lab coat clinging tightly to her pale skin. Blond hair framed a calm face complete with a delicate nose and jaw, high cheekbones, and a pair of sharp blue eyes. She pushed her glasses off her face and scratched the skin near her eyes with the end of her pen, sighed, and went back to scribbling on her clipboard. I tried to move my arms, but the motion was in vain-I was fastened securely to the exam table by my wrists and ankles. The girl looked over the rims of her glasses and snorted impatiently. "Nice try, but I believe that I have thought of every possible means of abdication for you." Her voice was calm and bored, one word not varying much in pitch from the previous or the one to follow. "Really?" I teased. "Do you honestly think you understand all of my mind's functions?" "Yes, really." The girl replied tartly. "I understand more about you than you realize, I think." The girl paced for a moment before setting her clipboard down on the wheeled instrument table next to her. "How do you feel?" The anger was gone in her voice, which now held some form of concern. I laughed at the sudden change in attitude. "What, you snap my head off and now you're asking if I feel okay? What kind of lab is this place?" I retorted, closing my eyes in silent mirth. "That's irrelevant." "It is, is it? Who are you, anyway?" "I'm..." She restrained herself. "You'll learn my name in due time-you seem like a bright boy." My temper flared suddenly, but I was able to suppress it with a curt nod of my head. "You aren't so dull yourself, since you obviously have the intelligence to acknowledge my ability." My blue eyes narrowed, obsessed with the idea of a challenge. "Quelle capacite?" She shot back in fluid French. What ability? If she thought I couldn't understand what she said, she was very wrong. "Tant de capacites que vous ne pouvez pas meme comprendre..." I whispered, watching the horror register on her face. So many abilities you can't understand... "As I said, quelles capacites?" She said, this time more firmly than before. Her knuckles turned white as she gripped the instrument table tightly. "You have no abilities. You never did, and you never will." Her voice held a strange note of finality. "What are you talking about?" I demanded, my temper flaring again. This time, I did nothing to stop it. "I can do things you would never dream of being able to do." The restraints that bound me snapped loose, and I swung my legs over the side of the table. "Abilities that could kill you now. Easily." My feet landed on the floor with a dull thud, which did not distract her horrified gaze from my face. Filled with grim satisfaction, I closed my eyes and nodded once. "Ah yes, easily. Facilement." When I walked behind her in a slow circle, she stayed staring straight ahead, petrified. "I could suck the life from you now, and it would require no effort." "...No." She said, her voice barely a whisper. "No! I won't let you!" She whirled around to face me, her hands balled into fists. I met her angered gaze evenly. "You don't stand a chance. You, compared to me, are weak. Worthless. A Nothing." "You're the Nothing!" She accused. "You don't have a heart! You're a Nobody! You're a disgusting, reeking animal with no feelings! I hate you!" "That would hurt if I had any feelings, but I don't. Sorry to disappoint you, sweetheart." I spat, looking at her with disgust. "You shun me; not because I lack a heart, but because of what I represent. I represent neither darkness or light, and that scares you." I didn't need to see her face to know that I was right. In an instant, I was holding her off the ground, my hand wrapped firmly around her neck. "Now," I hissed. "About that name." "Elizabeth!" She gasped, eyes bulging. I laughed and released her, watching as she crumbled into a gasping heap on the cold floor. "Elizabeth." I taunted mercilessly. I had a feeling this encounter would not be our last...far from it.
