A Third Song?

You know how the theme for KH1 was Simple and Clean/Hikari, and KH2 was Sanctuary/Passion? Do you think there'll be a third song for KH3? We never had a new theme in a game that wasn't just instrumental.

 

The only problem: didn't Utada say that she won't do any more songs for KH.

 

I wouldn't mind hearing either "King Of Pain" by The Police or "Eyes Without A Face" by Billy Idol in KH3.

Just personal preferences, though.

There should to be a third song. I love the two they have now (particularly Sanctuary), but another one would be nice.

I suppose we don't need another song, since it's just a song, but it would just be really weird if we didn't get a third for the third numbered title.


And if it's not Utada I won't like it nearly as much.

 

I believe the story was that Disney did pay Utada, but were a bit unfair about it--for example, they used Hikari, made her translate it and do Simple & Clean, but only paid her for one song.

Personally I'd love to have a new song, but the likelihood that it will be Utada is, I think, slim to none. If they get another artist in I think that could be pretty neat, but I still like Hikari and Passion.

 

For the past ten years, they've used songs by Utada Hikaru, but she's currently on a hiatus for the next three years, at least. So, what do you think they'll do? Will they get someone new, or wait until Utada comes off of hiatus, or use an older song of hers, or what?

 

Her hiatus is only three years? We're good then.

If she's not ready in time for the game to be created/finished/published, published being the latest as they could splice in the music without too much difficulty, then they would either have to find someone else to do the singing, or use one of her older songs. Only time will tell. I can't see them releasing KH III, without Utada doing the singing. Hopefully we'll get to here yet another one of her songs in the game.

 

They may get a foreign (from Japan's perspective) artist, like when they got Leona Lewis for FFXIII.

Maybe they can use "King Of Pain" by Sting & The Police (its lyrics sound like they mirror Sora's quest to end everyone's pain, not to mention: Kingdom Hearts / King Of Pain).

Also, even if she wasn't on hiatus:

She's not doing a KH song again because she was underpaid by Disney. If anything, I'd probably expect Square to use someone they've had on one of the previous video game soundtracks to do a third theme. There might be a small chance Utada will do it, but it's very unlikely.

As beautiful as Utada's music is, it would kind of interesting to see them choose a different artist for KHIII theme. It is the final chapter of the Xehanort saga and a lot has changed for all of the characters. A different theme to fit would be pretty neat.

 

I actually heard that Utada refused to do a new song for KH until KH3 comes out, specifically. I assume she told them she didn't want to do a bunch of songs for the side games, and being underpaid might've had something to do with it.

However, Disney is Disney, and they'll probably find a way to bring her back for at least one new song.
