Okay, I dunno if this is the right place to post this, so I'm winging it.

The situation is, I have a "mystic silver" PSP-3001 that I got as part of the Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep bundle back in September of this year. It came with OFW 6.20 and currently has 6.31. I have no way of knowing what motherboard it has because I've tried PSPident and it came back corrupted.

So, my question is, is there any possible way for me to install custom firmware on my PSP? Or am I completely SOL?

Well for one, do no, under any circumstances, upgrade to 6.35. There's an exploit for 6.31 that will allow you to install CFW. It hasn't been released yet, but keep an eye on http://pspslimhacks.com/ for updates on it. The version for 6.20 is close to being released, and one for 6.30 and 6.31 are likely to follow. Hope this helps!

Thank you. That really helps. All the gibberish on pspslimhacks is confusing, though...

Just pay attention to the news and updates. If you see something about "TN-A HEN" or a "kernel exploit," that's your cue to click.

So, something like "6.31 TN-A HEN" or "6.31 kernel exploit"?

Yeah, that would be it. Another site for just the HEN would be TN's blog here: http://total-noob.blogspot.com/

What would I do when/if that is released? I mean, I saw for the 6.20 one, it requires HBL or something like that. Like I said, it's really confusing me.

For the 6.31 version, there will be a VSH exploit that can be used from the XMB. You won't have to worry about messing with HBL or anything like that.

The navigation menu? Like, where you select Settings, Video, Photo, etc. on the PSP?

Yeah, that. It stands for XCross Media Bar, though I have no clue what the X is there for.

ahhh total noobs hen honestly don't get your hopes up i mean he wants it top work with 100% of homebrew which means that he would need the 1.XX 3.XX and 6.XX modules which would make it a cfw not a hen so it will start out as a HEN (Homebrew ENabler) and will go to a cfw
this will be a tough one considering it will be bricked if one thing goes wrong
he is working on a nand protection unit so to speak which will protect the flashes from being editted deleted or formated by well n00bs
no offense to any new people to this but this community isnt a forgiving one or an easy one at that(talking about the psp community not the khv community)

if you have any specific questions please ask

    btw sauce

Okay, soooo....what I'm understanding is, if/when TN releases the HEN for 6.35, that will allow me to install custom firmware on my psp, right? And what would I do?

HEN allows you to play Homebrew. Ultimately, it might allow you to play your legally backed up games via an iso loader. You will have to activate the HEN every time you cold-reset your PSP. Also, if you mess with the Flash0, you'll probably turn your PSP into a brick.

TN is actually working on a way to prevent the Flash0 from being messed with, so that danger is out of the way.

    through a "nand guard"
which means in order to place this he will have to mess with it so watch what you try at first it may brick it may not there is always a risk
i would suggest using half byte loader to keep you busy until/if he releases it

When TN's HEN is released, will that allow installation of custom firmware?
