    EDIT: I spelled concern wrong...

So we just finished World War II in global history, and I noticed that the main reason Mussolini sided with Hitler was because France and Britain were angered by Italy's invasion of Ethiopia. This is the second time Italy tried to obtain Ethiopia (at least that we learned of) and I'm wondering why did they want it so badly? Is their a set reason, or was it just for territorial expansion and they happened to choose Ethiopia? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, this is basically the deal. Ethiopia was already an Italian colony by 1936 and mild sanctions were placed on them but in the end no one did much about it despite feeling sympathy for the Ethiopians. Italy was kind of late getting into the game as far as occupying territories in Africa went. They had the same reason the other European countries went there. The first time they had occupied it, they suffered a defeat but in the end because Ethiopia was in between two other countries in Africa that were near Italy, it was encouraged as a strategy of expansion and defense to take it.
