Hey there peoples. I've never played ff7 and I don't know all that much about it either (only the basics). There is one thing that has me troubled though I've looked up info on all of the charecters and everything, but in Kingdom Hearts, when Cloud fights Sephiroth for the first time, he has a black demon like wing, which sort of got me confused. Can anyone please explain why Cloud has the demon wing? (though I know some things, I don't know about the wings and everything, so this part I am at a loss)
Cloud's outfit is a mixture of the designers favorite characters from FVII, notice vincent's cloak and claw.
Yes, but the wing was symbolic. It showed the guilt, hatred, and darkness that grew inside of him. Simple as that. It didn't seem like a good thought until they did it in KH. Then they chose to do it in CC. The came up with the thought after FFVII was made.
It's open to interpretation, as there's no written significance by Nomura or any official responsible for the game about why it was included in Cloud's character design. One could surmise that its symbolism is connected to the fact that Sephiroth constantly calls himself Cloud's darkness and that he "is" Cloud. Cloud also states that he tried to exploit the power of darkness, himself. So the entire black wing could just be another symbolic reference to these two ideas. Also notice how Cloud's black wing is on his left side, and Sephiroth's black wing is on his right side--which can be thought of as both owning one half of a complete set of wings (i.e. one entity). Naturally, this is all speculation, but I'd like to say it's not a bad theory. It has no overall impact on the story, so it's trivial at best.
I tend to see it as the claim that darkness has staked on him. By submitting to the darkness to find his light Cloud is branded, and to some extent given power, by it.
That explains why it wasn't in the original ff7......still, i thought it was just a reference to sephiroth and cloud having some connection or other.
