A few weeks ago, I met a girl.

She was deaf, but interesting, so I learned some sign language and decided to try to woo her. Things were going pretty well; she even started holding my hand when we'd walk together.


Today I found out that she was holding my hand because it was the only thing that would get me to shut up.

After seeing how some users stress SmashFan out for simply creating serious threads in The Spam Zone, I didn't want to be a jerk in the event that this was a serious thread and I posted a joke reply.

...I didn't get the joke at first.

But we have deaf women come into work all the time. All I've picked up is "Thank you," but they're all really nice and patient.

 

Are you sure that you didn't get it and just don't think it's funny? Or have you gotten it since the first time you read it?

I took it serious... then I scrolled down to see it was a joke. Then the punchline hit me in the face and I fell over in laughter.

She held his hand so he couldn't sign to her. She was deaf so sign language is the only way he can communicate with her, or the best way rather. She wanted him to shut up, so she held his hand.

 

I really don't get this joke... Not that I'm saying it's a bad joke, but I just don't get it.
