There goes again... the same story... I remember last year it was a divorced mother, the year before it was a poor mother, etc.
At least it's entertaining to see anti-piracy in action.

What will people think of next?

Anyway, they do it because they think they have the right to and can get away with it. They may very well get away with it, but they will eventually get caught or be haunted by it. As that old saying goes, "Crime doesn't pay!"

I'm just going to say what I assume everyone else is thinking right now.
    WHAT?
If you're going to sue someone, please be sure that the lawsuit actually makes sense.

I actually thought this was a joke till I clicked on it. D'aw, I kinda feel sorry for the Grandma, I mean c'mon she claims she don't know what a torrent is! silly accusation is silly. I wonder what the end verdict will be.

Oh wow, I don't know what to believe. It's possible that it could be true as you never know but why would she? On the other hand, what messed up confusion ocurred to make people think a 70 year old would do this? Then again, you would be surprised with what people actually do this sort of thing.I really don't know how to take this though.

It's more likely that she has an unsecured Wi-Fi that one of her neighbors connected to, did his business, and the IP address was traced back to her.

But yeah, all of the publicized anti-piracy cases I've heard about have been tremendously funny.

Oi. As everyone's said, all cases of this sort have kept me entertained.
However, I find it hard to believe that the old lady did it. Misty's probably right in that she needed to protect her Wi-Fi, and that her neighbors just got into it.
    Honestly. Oi.

The copyright owners select the most comical cases on purpose. The chance of the holder actually winning in court is exceedingly low. Instead, they attempt to use the threat of naming the person in an attempt to force them to settle. What grandmother wants it to be known that she looks at hardcore porn? The threat of publicity, coupled with the intimidating maximum fine is enough to make the defendant accept the terms of settling out of court. It's an effective bullying tactic by the copyright holders, and, of course, the media loves it. It's particularly successful in the gay porn industry, for obvious reasons.
