These stories come up way too often on the news these days, but this one kinda ticked me off. The mom left the child in the care of her cousin, and went on vacation. The cousin is 18 years old, and not much was known about her at the time. The cousin took the child to the store, but left her in the car, kept the doors unlocked, and went inside to get some items. She came out, and the child was gone.
So apparently they are checking into close family and friends, but honestly anyone could have done it. The thing that pissed me off was that the babysitter left the doors unlocked when she went into the store and didn't have a clear view of the child. Discuss.

First off, the 18-yr-old shouldn't have left the kid in the car. I don't care about the doors being unlocked, I don't care if the car was stolen. The mind-set of the teenager should've been in that of the safety of the child. That;s extremely upsetting, but I don't hear much of that stuff on the news [that stuff just stays with the MPU /Missing Persons Unit/], probably 'cause I don't watch the news also.

Back to the case at hand.If you're going to leave your kid in the car, at least park it where you can see them. The mum should take more care of who she leaves her child with. If it is a distant relative/babysitter/or whoever else it may be, keep in touch. Ring maybe every 3-4 hours if the child is at a young age and maybe every 8-16hrs if they're older.

In my opinion what the mother and the 18-yr-old did was wrong. I wouldnt do that to my child. I may leave them in the car to get something, but I would never leave the door unlocked or have them far-off from where I need to go. Bottom line is: Don't do that to your children. I hope they find the little girl. She hasn't done anything wrong and deserves to live. And I really hope they do find her.

It is entirely possible that the kid herself wandered out of the car and has wandered off somewhere.

Either way, this is not a nice story, I hope that they find her soon and that she is in good health.

As for the 18 year old, I am not going to condemn them, we all do stupid things at times, and whilst leaving the doors unlocked wasn't the most sensible idea, she probably didn't expect that the kid would go missing. Nobody ever expects the bad things to happen to them personally.

As for leaving the girl in the car whilst she went in the shop, that is actually a very common thing, a lot of parents do that if they are just going in for a couple of items or whatever. It doesn't make the parents evil or bad parents. If anything it is pretty sad that they can't do things like that because of the bad people that DO exist in the world.

Babysitters are expected to be responsible. Everyone makes mistakes but if we don't point them out harshly enough they're never gonna learn.
It's not like she did it on purpose but she does deserve a decent long tongue lashing in my opinion.

Try to be a little more contributing to the topic at hand please. Posts like these will make it look as if you're post-whoring. :D

Yeah, that's pretty messed up. I mean, I'm sure the eighteen-year-old feels awful about it, but she needs to exercise more responsibility when taking care of a child, especially one that young. I can sort of understand leaving the kid in the car while going into the store (although if it was me and the kid was four, alone, and not my child, I wouldn't have done it), but at the very least, she should have locked the doors. People do idiotic things, sure, but this shows why peopel need to be more careful. Sure, you might not expect something bad to happen to you, but you need to take precautions anyway, because there's still a chance.

Poor girl. I hope she turns up soon, and that all she did was wander off. Here's hoping she wasn't kidnapped.

The mother should have left the child with someone mor mature instead of an 18 year old and why would she go on vacation while she has to take care of her 4 year old. The 18-year old was not very smart in leaving the girl in the car with the doors unlocked...anything could happen to that poor child!!!
The 18 year old should go to jail...or atleast get punished somehow...

lol...I never heard that word before..XD U just made my day

For a 18-year old to make this kind of mistake...
I think that some action must be taken for being so irresponsible.
As for the child, he/she could be taken by anyone so it would be a wild chase to find him/her.

The girl was 4 years old and could have even been asleep. I can see why the teenager might have left her in the car and parents do that all the time if they are going to be quick. The only thing she did clearly wrong was leaving the doors unlocked, which could have been an oversight. I wouldn't just label her as irresponsible because tragedy has happened here. Yes, she should have locked the doors, and I'm sure she's feeling a helluva lot of guilt over the loss of this child.

I do hope they can find the kid. If the child wandered off by herself, and someone found it, I'd hope that we'd hear something. I'll have to check the news later to see if anything has been found out.

I saw this on the news a few days ago. These poor kids end up going missing and they never are found.

Anyway, why in the world would you leave a child in the car by herself? That's completely irresponsible. It is the baby-sitter's job to watch the child at all times. It doesn't matter whether you thought that nothing would happen because something did obviously. Leaving her in the car by herself is just asking for trouble. It should be common sense to know that "hey I'm watching a kid so let me do it right". Worst baby-sitter ever.

If I were the cousin I would've taken the child with me inside the store. I don't like the idea of leaving a 4 year old kid alone on the street anyway. I hope they find her back so that cousin can learn something from it.

    That's really unresponsible of her.

1.She shouldn't have left the child in car in the first place.
    2.Left the doors locked.

It's obviously her fault. Why would you leave a 4 year old child in the car with the doors unlocked and expect something not to happen?
The child could've actually ran away itself.

    People are so stupid.
