Always thought you'd make a pretty good pirate? Never really thought about it, but think you would now? Simply have nothing better to do? Then this contest is for you!

Hosted by the Intergalactic Ninja Vampire Space Pirates, this event will be split into three parts and scored by a panel of five judges; Cap'n Marushi (me) and my trusty 1st Officer Loxare will be judging all three events, while INVSP members Beucefilous, Midnight Star and HoT will each judge one event. And, taking time from their busy schedules to join us and also judging all three events will be our two guest judges; Jayn and Llave!

    The Contest

The three parts of the contest will be scored by the judges using a point system.

    1. Questionnaire

Entrants will fill out answers to ten questions of varying difficulty, all about pirates and the like. Points will be awarded for creativity and for pirateness.

    2. Creative Entry

Entrants will submit some form of creative entry involving themselves as a pirate. It can be a photo, a drawing, a video, a song, a short story, a poem... Pretty much, just be creative. And a pirate. Points will be awarded for creativity, pirateness, and to a lesser extent, technicality.

    3. Roleplay

This part of the contest will indubitably last the longest. A roleplay will be opened in the RP Arena, and the entrants will work together to raid the treasure of a planet, overcoming obstacles and enemies played by members of the INVSP. Depending on how many entrants we have, we will either put you all in the same crew or we will randomly split the entrants into two or more crews. Each crew will elect a Captain and a 1st Officer to lead them. Points will be awarded for teamwork, creativity, pirateness, and to a far lesser extent, roleplaying ability. If there is more than one crew, extra points will be awarded to the first crew to raid the planet. The overall points for each crew will be divided among the members of that crew and added to their final scores.

    THE WINNER!!!

The winner of the contest will be announced the Pirate of the Year, and will be given a grand prize of...

Nothing. Yeah, see, I'm not the best event planner in the world... We've been talking about this contest for months, and as far as a prize goes, the only thing we can offer you is first consideration for guest judge next year. You don't even get a sig. Maybe next year we'll be able to offer something.

    When is it?

The 1st part of the contest will begin on November 14th, when we will post the questionnaire and a deadline. The submission for the Creative Entry will begin on the 24th with a deadline of the 30th. As it is a matter of creativity, entrants can begin working on their Creative Entry as soon as they wish. Guidelines will be posted below. As for the roleplay part of the contest, it will begin sometime after the 24th, and it will not have a set deadline.

    How do I sign up?

It's very simple. All you have to do is post in this thread that you want to enter, and I will add you to the list. If, for any reason, you must drop out, send me a VM and I'll remove you from the contest.

Rules and guidelines for the Creative Entries:

Please don't make your video more than around five minutes long. Please keep it clean; not too much profanity, no romance above PG13, follow KHV rules regarding content and the like.
Please don't have your image bigger than 800x500 pixels. Please keep it tasteful and fun, and follow the KHV rules regarding content.
As a guideline, please don't have your story shorter than 500 words or longer than 10,000. If you do not follow this guideline, you will not be disqualified and it won't necessarily hurt your score, but the word limits make it easier for us to read. Again, keep the content fairly clean, not too much profanity, no romance above PG13, you know the drill. Fanfic is allowed; your character can be in Pirates of the Caribbean if you so desire. But bear in mind that you're also being judged on creativity, so while that doesn't necessarily mean that your story will get a lesser score, you might have a better chance with an original piece of work. I guess it all depends on how original the plot itself is. If one story is based on an entrant meeting Jack Sparrow and the plot is more creative than a completely original story, the first will get more points than the second.
Please keep your lyrics fairly clean in content. There are no guidelines as to length, but bear in mind that the easier something is to read, the better your chances of a higher score. If you write a song, you may record it and submit a link to the song, and if you want to record yourself reading your poem aloud, you may also send a link of your recital. If you take either of these options, please include a copy of the lyrics with your link, so we can read the words as we listen.
If you are so inclined and have much time upon thine hands, thou mayest make one presentation including two or more of the above creative entries. For example, you could write and record a song, and animate a music video for it.
If I have missed something and you would like to do a Creative Entry aside from one of the options above, VM me about it and I will give you a set of guidelines for that medium, and then I will edit this post with the guidelines for the new medium.

Above all, have fun with this! That's why we're putting this whole thing together. :)

    Signing off, Cap'n Marushi
