Link (yes, it's Kotaku, but that's not important)

Thought it could fit here since I found it an interesting discussion.

What are your guys' stances on this?

I currently don't think the skin should be removed from the game. If anything, change the name and skin tone and maybe some of the accessories. Of course I can't say that I understand where the person is coming from in saying it's a trivialization of religious beliefs, but if series like Final Fantasy have depicted figures like Shiva the way they have for decades, I don't see how this skin is all that bad (not that I think Shiva's that bad either, but again, I'm not in the same mindset...)

I've also read other people's thoughts about the topic, stating that it shouldn't be changed because "it's art inspired by culture" rather than being posed as a depiction of that culture. And other people bring up that the game SMITE has had many similar situations, though I don't recall how Hi-Rez Studios responded to complaints.

Fun fact: I got my wisdom teeth removed while I was rehearsing for a summer theater show I believe four years ago?

Mashed potatoes and yogurt were my only dishes for a good while. The best part is learning how much you can bleed in a day!

I didn't mean to say that the entire medium for either manga or anime is 100% pure or 100% corrupt, just to generally say that, since manga (usually) requires a far smaller budget and time investment than anime to create, a mangaka can (usually) focus more on what story and art they want to convey. And things like art style I suppose affect me a lot more than they affect you, being the main reason I don't think I'll ever get into something like Steven Universe (though it's not the only reason.)

The Yotsubato and Nichijou comparison is actually a really good way to look at it. While I think the 1997 anime of Berserk is decent, I already know it's nowhere near as good as the manga since a LOT of attention to detail, both in the story and in the art, is lost by the anime having a smaller budget and not always conveying the appropriate mood or motion...and I won't even comment on the newly airing CG series (though I personally kinda like the music)

Ah, that makes sense. I'll try to incorporate that more often. I'm just used to seeing the slash.

Jiku basically says what I think might be your case.

I personally don't have an issue with manga, especially since it lets the story go as long as the mangaka has envisioned as well as giving more focus to the art since it doesn't have to be animated, which I think you probably value most?

But the strong points of anime to me that manga obviously can't achieve are when there's strong and smooth animation, well directed and performing voice acting, fitting music, and even memorable sound effects.

The active visuals and the audio stimulation engage me more than still images, but I get it's not the same for everyone, especially with differing kinds of attention spans. The thing you said about wandering is actually what happens to me with reading too often.

Dunno what my point was. Probably that different =/= dumb? Though that seems obvious.

Starting from the 250th page of this thread, find the first picture you can of a member with red hair (natural or dyed) and post a thread (in the Spam Zone if you wish) asking that member nicely to pray for you.

    Truth me.
