We are alive because we want to be. 'Least, that's my take on it. "Want" leads to "purpose," and "purpose" leads to a reason to live. I believe that each and every one of us has a purpose, else they wouldn't be here, even if it isn't clear to the individual. You could even say that each individual has multiple purposes, thus should one be fulfilled, another "want" will open another path to a different "purpose." So basically, what I believe right now is that human desire is the reason we live, in the philosophical point of view.
