Final Fantasy 12 is the greatest open world RPG of all time. Further, the voice acting is just amazing. I got back to playing it while on a break from XIII and was blown away by how much better the voice acting is. Whoever decided to cast predominantly stage actors in for the English dub was an absolute genius.

There's this meter that fills over time called the Active Time Battle (ATB) Gauge. When the ATB gauge is full for a character, you can select a move for that character to do. This has been how Final Fantasy has worked ever since FFIV. Final Fantasy (the best FF game in my opinion), FFII, and FFIII all use regular turn-based battle systems with slight variations on it to make them all unique.
