The man who was with Aerith was Zack, he was also the wolf that was always watching over Cloud. Zack and Aerith fell in love in Crisis Core. Cloud and Aerith fell in love in the original Final Fantasy VII. Aerith was not mother, they just believed that she was mother. I'm assuming it was because she was the last Ancient/Cetra. Yeah, it's a little confusing. xD
