That's really good for a first sig :). I would reccomend looking at tutorials (lots of em) so you can get used to your program, and learn how to make great effects. The scanlines you put on the stock are iffy, and the text is pretty good and suits what you've got going on here. Anyways, good job.

The stock does not go withh the background at all. If you took out the stock, I thinmk it would be an ok abstract peice, but the stock kills it. X_X The white on the left doesn't do much, and it just jumps out at me every time I look at this tag. The stock placement also needs some work, cause it's put smack dab in the corner like that. The text kinda works... although I think it would look better with a lowered opacity.
Hmmm It seems too simple..... The stock somehow ruins this..... But, it's too simple for crit xD

Well, I would say add some of V2's elements into V1. Maybe even take parts of v2, and throw it on V1 to add FG efects. If you wanna make v2 better, I say burn some of the bg, blur the bg, and add some clipping masks. NRA, I think you should experiment with the smudge tool some, cause you can achieve some awesome fg and bg effects with smudging. Needs some work, but these are okay.
