No worries. It gives people more time to work on their parts anyhow.
Pretty much this. Feel free to make Skype convos as you wish, but nothing will be considered official or moderated by us.
Personally when I join a site, it's because I saw something that required me to register. I could care less about the staff. That's just me though, perhaps. I might look at the staff list or something, but I don't go "Well I better see how active each and every staff member is here before I decide to post". I think we have good presentation despite a handful of staff being invisible. We're still active, after all. Again, I am around, and I can be contacted. Despite being invisible. I did read the thread, many times now. What am I dodging exactly? I'm pretty sure I've replied to any questions towards me and I have noted everyone's opinion on the matter. I'm not singling anyone out either, it's just that as I already mentioned, SJ was really the only one still debating that that point. What's the issue now? If you're going to make an input or suggestion please feel free. Otherwise jaunting this back and forth like this isn't getting anything accomplished.
Except it isn't an issue imo. I already stated the ways I can be contacted, regardless if I'm visible or not. Your definition of an excuse is my definition of a reason, that is not something we'll ever agree on so I'm not even going to debate that. From the time I was visible til now, I have not noticed any difference between the amount of people who come to me for help. That only proves that being invisible/visible has nothing to do with the ability to approach someone. People choose not to approach me, there's nothing I can do about that. There aren't even many situations where I should need to be directly contacted ONLY if I'm online. Chances are, if someone needs an admin for something, they'll send a pm to both Misty and myself about it and we reply as soon as we can. For all other problems, the report function is there for you to use. Also the community "profiting" from me being online? What does that even mean? I really doubt me being visible makes a noticeable difference in profit. I'm not trolling, please learn what that word means before using it. I didn't take the suggestion as a personal attack. All I did was, as you mentioned, briefly state why I was invisible because it sounded like people wanted to know. As to how that somehow diverts the topic, I fail to see. Last I checked, we are still allowing members to post their thoughts on this (otherwise I would have locked the thread by now if we weren't interested). I haven't attempted to do anything here other than state my reasoning and debate the opposing side (which just happens to only be SJ and maybe you at this point). As to why you think I am ruining this suggestion is pretty silly. There are still good ideas floating around, starting with The Fuk?'s post. Let's not ruin it now shall we.
I will definitely look into that. In the mean time guys, do not be afraid to use the report feature even for things as small as wanting your own thread locked. It's the best solution at the moment for us to quickly act on it.
The asterisks can be changed to something else, if it's really that big of an issue. Some forums just make it so words get changed to [Filtered]. Not sure what is preferred.
Toshi pls go. But it is. I mean people really have to try and make their profanity visible just for the sake of doing it? I mean yeah it's allowed to an extent, but it's rather silly they feel the need to. Anyways I updated the current list.
I'm fine with adding more words to the filter list, and I will go do that now actually. Starting with the two most mentioned thus far. But I don't think it's necessary to completely remove the filtered words, it still keeps a lot of crap out despite people making a rather amusing effort to bypass it.
Just did some maintenance on our end, hopefully it helps the site speed. I'll keep an eye on this time frame if I'm still awake and see if I notice a difference, but yeah I did notice how slow it was late last night.
Well it's pretty much like this... Last summer I was hired with two other people. Not too long after that, someone who already working there...
I'll change it, np. If you mean the profile picture, it's Kimimaro's card used in the anime [C]. And not too bad I guess. Work's been crappy...
Well now that's quite rude. Ignoring my questions and telling me to leave. Sorry if I pinched a nerve or something, that wasn't my intention. Again, I can see where that could be a problem and its is one of the downsides to being invisible. But I don't think that happens often enough where it's an issue that requires a major change, and I still get pms from new members quite often despite me being invisible. @Jiku: I don't blame you for expressing your opinions, and it's quite alright. I understand why people would be against me being invisible (I'm going to say me, since this seems to be primarily about me being invisible now). Again, sorry if anything I said came off as if I was completely ignoring the topic at hand, it's just I don't see a solution that would benefit both sides. Actually, I'm fairly confident it doesn't exist.
For the last god damn time. What the hell is there left to discuss here? I already told you what I thought. Now you're just whining because you're not getting things your way. How can I "work towards a compromise" when the only possible solution is to either A. Keep things as they are or B. Make some kinda of rule where staff are denied the right to be invisible? There is no other solutions, am I wrong? OR is there some other option you're just willing to share with us? Because so far you haven't suggested anything useful. And man, don't even try to feed me this "serving the members" garbage. I've been staff long enough to know what the job entitles. The decisions you made back then were your own, and doesn't have any relevance now.
Because I don't feel I am online for long enough periods a time where I should need to switch back and forth. Plus I'm not going to always remember to do so. So is reporting a post. I mean come on, if you really need to contact me personally about something, wouldn't you send me a PM regardless if I was online or not? It doesn't matter who takes care of something, as long as it's taken care of.
But that's what I was trying to originally explain though. The reason I went invisible is because people would contact me when I wasn't even there, and I felt bad because they may have assumed I was and never contacted anyone else. Also for the record I haven't been invisible for as long as people like to think, and it probably won't be permanent in the long run. It's nothing new for me to switch back and forth. @At Shadowjak: So basically you're saying if I don't agree with you, everything I say is an excuse. Because in your eyes, the only way to "fix" the issue at hand, is for all staff to no longer be invisible. Since I am disagreeing, it is somehow an excuse because I am not taking the steps to make myself visible, and therefore not "fixing" the problem. Yeah, no. That's now how suggestions work buddy. You should know that by now.
So is it getting replaced or what? Tis a shame though.
1. My post was not an excuse, it's fact. I'm sorry if you fail to see that. 2. I have been reading the posts in this thread as to "why it may be an issue", even though most of your posts are just copypasta of other people's thoughts and just re-stating over and over again that there's some kind of "problem" with being invisible. Believe me, I see what you're getting at here and while I do agree with some of it, at the same time I don't see any reason to overturn my decision. You can say blah blah appearances all you want, but that's just an opinion. I don't think my performance as a staff member changes whether I'm visible or not. Contacting me or any of the other staff isn't difficult, therefore there it is not an issue in my opinion. That's all I'm saying.
If it really upsets "5" people that much, then I'm sorry? Doesn't mean I'm going to change my mind. I have a right to be invisible just like anyone else. If we're saying random numbers, I can probably name about 30 who are wondering why this is even an issue.
So the truth comes ou- *shot* I can't speak or decide for the other staff members. It's their choice whether they want be visible or not, as it is with anyone else. The main reason I'm invisible is because I have become one of those people who just leaves their computer on 24/7, even if I'm not around or sleeping. I have a bad habit of leaving my browser minimized with tabs like KHV open. I was getting a lot of messages asking to do things when I wasn't even around, so I felt it would be best start staying invisible to avoid confusion. It's the same way with my Skype, it always says I'm on but I'm really not. It's just because my computer stays on. Like Misty said, if you need to report something in a thread, the report feature really is the best way to get the staff to act on it. If you need to contact me personally, just shoot me a pm or a skype message and I'll try to get back to you when I can. Just know I might be at work or something if I don't answer right away. All the staff have ways of contacting them, so there really isn't an issue in my opinion.
If you just install the latest version of CCCP and just use the Media Player Classic that comes with it, that should be all you need. Never had a problem with it. If you're using a x64bit os you might need to use the x64 MPC. VLC sucks.
