That was my first thought, but in 100 years time they also probably could have dug some really deep and wide trenches that the titans couldn't jump across or climb out of. In the event of a breach, it would also give the WMS the added responsibility of clearing out the trenches every couple of weeks. Of course, they would have to be hella wide, so it might be counter-intuitive to the goal of maximizing the territory inside the walls. I DON'T KNOW I'M JUST SPITBALLING HERE, OKAY? Though if the walls are special in some way, I suppose that's good enough for now. Even so, I'm still going to assume that it was just a massive oversight by the engineers who thought to build the walls that way in the first place. How did it never occur to anybody 100 years ago to also divide each section of human territory into quarters, or even eighths?
