Well, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were in love with each. And the entire last season was more "explicit" meaning, it had blood and nudity, while the other ones had no blood and only minor nudity. The whole deal. Like in Cardcaptor Sakura, the removed it completely, or in Sailor Moon where they changed it to "being cousins".

Maybe the symbol-less one are the Dissouls and the symboled ones are the Endless. Then again, I was half-asleep when I got that thought. But it is possible since both words were in the Secret ending, apparently. I'll have to watch it, just make sure. I haven't watched it in a long time so I can tell you if Dissouls appeared in it or not.
