Well the only simple advice I could support you with is to jump in and improvise on the dating a little. If you're an honest person and think you can uphold yourself, who are you kidding? Think about abstract things--think about things that you could easily research later on. Make up logic games and test 'em out on yourself. That's what I do (if I don't have a book or my iPod to watch anime).
Gurren Lagann is ****ing amazing. I just watched it last week, totally worth it. Though like Cin had recently pointed out to me, it was way too much like DBZ in terms of realism. 1) Sheer will-power is enough to win, 2) it takes literally no substantial increase in power to defeat an enemy. In fact, because spiral energy defeats basically anything, it was entirely unfair and utterly useless to think there was any dynamic. Otherwise, great anime. Especially the galaxy-shurikens. :'D
