"Oh MY GOD", IT'S A WHALE" someone shouted, not exactly knowing what a mermaid was. As soon as that was shouted, everyone startedto laugh, but not at the kid, it was aimed at Melissa. Some people patted Karie on the back for bringing the laughter to them. All Melissa could do, was try to ignore the laughter, and the pain it was bringing her.
Melissa's stomach still hurt bad as she was dragged to the shore. She hadn't noticed that more campers had been showing up
When Karie kicked off the rock, Melissa was swung into one, so while Karie was swimming for air, Melissa couldn't fight back as her stomach hurt keep picking on her

Melissa had reached the surface, then searched for Karie. She couldn't see her.
The water was darker than usual, so it was harder for her to see. She swam up thinking that Karie gave up
