Hello KH-Vids. The full interview with Nomura from Nintendo Power has surfaced, thanks to silver3drago from KH13. Nomura explains "This is the first time we’re doing this, but there’s a surprise during the end credits. So even when the credits start to roll, don’t put down your N3DS, and don’t let your guard down!" Did I say I love you Nomura?

Kingdom Hearts 3D was first announced at the same time as the Nintendo 3DS hardware. What made you so eager to bring the series to a new platform?

Nomura: We were impressed with the passion Nintendo put into the design of the N3DS hardware. And personally, I was excited by the idea of a Kingdom Hearts game that could be played in 3D in the palm of one’s hands. That was certainly a big part of it.

Can you explain what the title-Dream Drop Distance-Means?

Nomura:The story for this installment takes place in a world submerged in sleep, and from that “Sleep” we derived “Dream”. “Drop”, from the phrase “Drop off to sleep”, is our name for the system in which players alternate between control of Sora and Riku during gameplay. And since Sora and Riku are progressing through the story on different storylines, we chose “Distance” to express the gulf between them. And of course, since all three words start with the letter D, it can be shortened to 3D to add to the meaning of 3D functionality.

What can you tell us about the overarching story of the game and how it ties into the future of Kingdom Hearts?

Nomura:The story for this installment picks up where Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on the Nintendo DS left off, making it the most recent chapter in the timeline. It’s the story that takes place right before the final chapter of the “Xehanort arc”, which began with the very frist Kingdom Hearts.

To give a brief summary of the game’s premise, Yen Sid assigns Sora and Riku with visiting the Sleeping Worlds and open the seven Sleeping Doors as their Mark of Mastery exam, which they must complete in order to become Keyblade Masters. However, a mysterious boy in a black cloak appears everywhere they go, and nothing ends up going exactly as planned. That’s the gist of it.

In terms of future Kingdom Hearts, I know fans are eager for the arc’s final battle, and I hope to begin writing it soon.

In a previous interview, you mentioned that the Mark of Mastery exam won’t span the entirety of the game. Could you elaborate on that a little bit?

Nomura:As I just mentioned, the mysterious boy in the black cloak causes the story to take an unexpected turn. Whenever he appears, Xehanort and other characters that have been linked to him, like Ansem, seem to follow, even though they’ve already been defeated in the past. Their story isn’t about the Mark of Mastery exam, so that plotline proceeds in a different direction.

How did you decide which new Disney worlds to include in the game?

Nomura:Tai Yasue, the game’s codirector, suggested that since the film Fantasia contained many worlds, we could use that in the game to separate the worlds that Sora and Riku traveled through. I’ve always wanted to visit Fantasia in a Kingdom Hearts game, so I jumped at the chance. It’s a similar story with the other worlds. We considered how their worldview and settings could be used in interesting effect with the particular mechanics and scenario we had written for this installment, and selected them on that basis.

Why did you choose to make both Sora and Riku playable characters this time around?

Nomura: Sora and Riku represent the theme of the Kingdom Hearts series, which is “the light and dark sides of the heart.” This story takes place right before the final battle, and so we wanted to go back to the origin of the series and depict the polarity of light and darkness through their respective stories.

As big fans of The World Ends with You, we’re excited to see its characters appear in Dream Drop Distance. What role do they play in this game?

Nomura:In previous games in the Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy characters made appearances and gave Sora guidance to help with his adventure. This time, it’s characters from The World Ends with You who perform that role. The basic story is that the characters wandered into this world while playing the Reapers’ Game, and became separated from their partners. Their stories begin with the teammates searching for each other.

Aside from yourself, did anyone on the Kingdom Hearts team work on the World Ends with You?

Nomura:The illustrator who worked on TWEWY, Gen Kobayashi, is now serving as the art director for Dream Drop Distance. That games composer, Takeharu Ishimoto, has also created some music for DDD. Finally, the director of TWEWY, Tatsuya Kando, is working as this game’s animation supervisor.

What are the origins of the Dream Eaters? And can you explain the difference between the two types: Spirits and Nightmares?

Nomura:Actually, as you may have seen in the debut trailer, I was originally planning to go with Heartless and Nobodies. But when I started thinking about setting the game in a dream world with enemies who could grow and fight alongside the player, I felt that it wouldn’t really make sense to be raising Heartless and Nobodies. So I came up with the Dream Eaters as a new kind of enemy that appears in Sleeping Worlds and that feeds on dreams instead of being focused on hearts the way Heartless and Nobodies are.

Nightmares are the Dream Eaters who eat dreams born in these worlds and sow nightmares instead; they appear as the main enemy for this installment. Spirits are good monsters who eat nightmares, and they fight alongside Sora and Riku as allies.

Will Sora and Riku fight alongside Disney characters at any point? Or do they strictly fight alongside their Spirit allies?

Nomura:In this installment, they will be fighting almost exclusively alongside their Spirit allies. To be clear, this game isn’t a spinoff, since it’s a continuation of the series’s main story. But when I’m working on a game in the series that isn’t a numbered title, I like taking the opportunity to incorporate ambitious new systems like this.

The action in Dream Drop Distance is a lot faster and more frenetic than in the previous Kingdom Hearts games. What was the motivation behind that?

Nomura:I have a clear direction for how I want the Kingdom Hearts series evolve, and this change is part of moving in that direction. The games in the series are known as RPGs with a high level of action, in which anyone can perform flashy moves. In order to make the gameplay even more dynamic, we’ve implemented a new system called Flowmotion. With that, I think we’ve taken another step towards our ultimate goal for the series.

In a recent trailer, we spotted various Nobodies like Xemnas, Xion, and Axel. How is it that they’re around for the events of this game?

Nomura:I can’t discuss details just yet, but the mysterious boy in the black cloak has something to do with this. They will confuse Sora and Riku wherever they go. Who would you say is the main villain in Dream Drop Distance?

I can’t make a definitive statement because that would be giving away a secret, but I will tell you once again, the mysterious boy in the black cloak is the key to the answer.

Will this game take advantage of StreetPass or SpotPass?

Nomura:The game does take advantage of StreetPass capabilities, and uses them in the Spirit-breeding system.

Who’s composing the soundtrack for the game? Will it include a new theme song?

Nomura:With this installment, Yoko Simomura will continue her role as the series’s main composer. Takeharu Ishimoto and Tsuyoshi Sekito-who have worked on previus installments like Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep-will also be contributing music to this game. Ishimoto will not only be handling songs from The World Ends with You, but from other games as well. As with our previous titles, the theme music is going to be a song by Utada Hikaru.

Will all of the US voice actors from previous Kingdom Hearts be reprising their roles in Dream Drop Distance?

Nomura:That’s certainly a plan. In fact, the voice recording for the North American version is already underway.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the series. Do you have anything special in store for 2012 to celebrate this occasion?

Nomura:In Japan, we’re planning to release a 10-year commemorative box set. We don’t have any other solid plans, but the series has a lot of support from fans in North America, so I hope we can do something special for them as well.

Finally, if we ask nicely, would you share something about Dream Drop distance that you haven’t mentioned anywhere else?

Here I am! Lol, but yes, Maggy's absolutely right, practice whenever you can, different pitches and accents. You can't just act the character, you have to BE the character; put your mind into that situation, as if you're actually there, actually sharing that character's conflict and emotion. Giving up will never fix anything; Take an hour or two, completely separate yourself from any distractions, and work on the character. Right down their motives, their actions; connect with the character and share their feelings as if they were your own. It's impossible to master any character unless you give time to connect with them! (I'm not crazy, I swear! XP) Listen, and receive. Take the emotion and pitch the real actors use and copy them. And the real key to getting into character is loving the character: you have to enjoy being the character in order to present them well. Play TWEWY some more, watch Tron Legacy a couple hundred times haha. If you enjoy these characters and you WANT to be them, then you're on the right track, and you just can't rush into recording without practice first. You'll get there, I know it. ;)

I'll get to doing a critique soon when I have more time, but there is something I have to note (and I don't mean to offend anyone by this), but there needs to be some consistent casting here, similar to the real world. Overall, I enjoyed Llave de Espada's sound, but Zekkai was perfectly fine playing Sora as well! If there was a scheduling conflict or you (Mike) had a good reason that he wasn't doing a good job, then it's acceptable to replace him; then the part would go to the understudy (greater_bloo)! It's really not fair to promise a role to someone when you can't keep that promise, even an understudy role. Once casting is done, it should be done, otherwise what's the point in holding auditions? I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but it's just proper edict to respect your cast, especially if you want to use them again in the future. That's all.

There were a lot of conflicts with this project. I actually recorded a podcast with Llave and some other members and I heard his voice as Sora and I was blown away. At any rate, I do apologize for all the confusion. Zekkai wasn't able to send his lines on time and Llave happened to be in a call with me when it happened, so I told him the next video he could be in it. I really get excited to give members a chance and not think about the consequences so I apologize to Greater_bloo, Llave and you...

Edit: On second thought with all the confusion and everything going on, I'm going to take a break from this project. I feel a lot went wrong between my self as a voice actor and a producer. I'm not going to be able to continue to run this if I can't even do it right.

Hmm...I'm a bit mixed with my feelings on this one. Compared to the previous trailer this one didn't seem as great, which is weird seeing as I think the official Japanese version of this trailer was much better than the other one. Regardless there were some nice voices there and I'll critique them now:

Ansem (SOD) voiced by TheVader74: Great! Not quite the same as Richard Epcar or Billy Zane but it's nice and unique in its own way. I think you added a cool factor to him that the official voices couldn't capture.

Axel/Lea voiced by Newkidaye: Very awesome! Your acting is phenomenal!

Blue Fairy voiced by Roxas2142: Hmm...it's a bit too young for me. I believe the Fairy is supposed to be some sort of guidance type character right? That means the line should be said in an advising yet caring type of way like how a grandmother would speak to her grandchild.

Braig voiced by StrawhatSoul: Ah the king of the Arcade! That was a perfect impersonation of Braig! Can't wait to hear more if we do cutscenes next or another trailer comes out!

Clu voiced by William Morris: I can see a hint of a Jeff Bridges voice in there great job! It does sound a bit young however, though I'm sure you can perfect it if you practice with it more!

Donald voiced by SonicTheVA: I think you're like official unofficial Donald lol. He is like the bane of KH fan dubs since most people can't find the right one and have to cancel their project. Almost every Kingdom Hearts fan dub I see credits you as Donald and rightfully so. Just speaking in that voice is unique and hard, but acting in it sounds like something only a few people could do. Great Job!

Frollo voiced by PaW: It sounded great when you were starting the line then you did silent yelling, which is just awkward to anyone who listens. If you're in an environment that requires silence just move to somewhere more suitable for yelling or if it's night time wait until the day to record. I know you can do the voice right based on the last trailer, so just try to avoid more awkward moments like that and you're good to go!

Flynn voiced by William Morris: Again great job doing the Jeff Bridges voice! Just need a bit more practice with it!

Geppeto voiced by StrawhatSoul: Great job! You have a nice range seeing as you voiced 3 different characters of completely different voice types! Definitely a sign of good things to come for you as a voice actor!

Goofy voiced by Newkidaye: Goofy as always! XD Great job! You deserve a coffee break for that performance! (inside joke from KHR commercial #2) GO THERE NOW!:

Joshua voiced by Genshie: I think you did an awesome job as Joshua here, in the last trailer the lines were not that great translated to English so it messed with my judgement. But here I see why you were picked!

Minnie voiced by Atiragrame3: Really nice! I would say perfect but it's missing a queen/royalty element to the voice, I may just be nitpicking though. Also since this is probably a different Minnie than in previous games it's probably perfect for this Minnie.

Neku voiced by CGNET: Kinda hard to critique one word lol, but it's pretty good.

Pete voiced by William Morris: Wasn't similar to the original voice but it still fits the character!

Quasimodo voiced by Newkidaye: Great! Really true to the original voice as well! ...I envy your range. @_@

Quorra voiced by Khfan1661: Hmm...it's great, though I think you need to add a little more spunk to it.

Riku voiced by Hlmactiii: Really good! I can't really find any faults. That one scene with Sam needed to be shouted though as if you were trying to talk over the wind.

Roxas voiced by CGNET: Good to hear you as Roxas again! I don't know if it's the music, the scene itself, or the fact that you're playing Roxas again but I got a little teary eye'd for some reason.

Sam voiced by CGNET: Ah I guess you couldn't find anybody to voice him? Not to trying to sound mean but it didn't fit that well. Also I think the lines needed to be shouted as if they are trying to talk over the wind blowing around them because they're flying.

Before I get to the critique of Sora I have to ask what happened to Zekkai? And wasn't I supposed to be the understudy?
Anyway,
Sora voiced by Llave de Espada: I'm a bit mixed. You have a voice similar to him and I like that you're a bit higher in tone than Zekkai. However, there were times where you didn't show the emotion needed for some scenes such as the part where Clu was trying to bargain for the Keyblade. Also overall Sora sounded a bit wimpy, I get that he is supposed to sound nice, however the key to voicing Sora is to find a right balance between Nice and Strong. Meaning he has to sound lovable but also someone you can depend on. All you have to do is work on that balance and you'll sound perfect!

Vanitas voiced by greater_bloo: Gah, not synched again! Though I think it's a bit better than the last time. If we ever dub that cutscene again, I think one of us has to do the line first and then send it to the other one and try to synch up the delivery. It also helps with the volume level.

Victor voiced by StrawhatSoul: Very similar to the original! Great Job!

Xemnas voiced by TheVader74: Love it! I had my doubts as to if you could pull off a younger sounding Xehanort since you usually play more mature characters but you completely passed my expectations! This is going to be one of those characters that I'll have a hard time getting used to once the official English version comes out for sure! Looks like my Vanitas has some competition on the dark, teenager type voice! XD

Yen Sid voiced by TheVader74: Great job! You nailed the old man! ...voice...you nailed his voice! XD

Anyway I'm finally done *sigh* that took 3 hours (not counting the break). You have no idea how many times I copied this entire thing just in case Firefox somehow crashed on me but now all I have to do is finish it off. My first impressions were that it wasn't as great as the other trailer and they still stand right now, but I believe everyone did a great job after individually analyzing each voice. I've seen some improvement among some of the returning voices and I see some very talented ones that could easily make a living off voice acting! Hope to work on cutscenes next! Unless that March 3rd event somehow spouts out another trailer then we can work on that one next!

Also Mike I said this on the youtube page itself but I thought I should say it here, you can make the video widescreen by posting yt:stretch=16:9 on the Youtube tags.

I guess I can't pull off a good Neku and Sam. I'm really trying to do other characters, but I can only do Ven and Roxas. To be honest, I'm not even sure if I can even do them anymore. I feel my voice acting is getting worst. =(

Hello KH-Vids. It's been just about a week since the secret trailer from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance surfaced. For me, it feels like its been weeks or even months since the trailer released. Spending countless hours and days on the trailer and casting members across the Kingdom Hearts series; the trailer is finally complete and it wasn't easy.

This is the first trailer I had my doubts about. It was a challenge to find members who would voice the Tron Legacy characters. Previous videos/productions recieved at least 50-70 auditions. This particular video only recieved ten. Using the same cast as the previous video, selected roles were available, but I guess not many members were interested. To say the least, the video came out better than I thought and it was completed 100%.

The tenth anniversary for the Kingdom Hearts series is near. This "special" trailer has been dubbed in English by fans across the series. Members such as TheVader74, Newkidaye, Genshie, William Morris, Hlmactiii, Greater_bloo and others (including myself) return. Along with our previous cast, new cast members such as Llave de Espada, StrawhatSoul, Khfan1661 and Roxas2142 have joined us to share their voice talent. Please share your feedback regarding the cast and the team.

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is set for release on March 29th 2012. No other dates have been confiremd at this time.

The official website for Nintendo Power has updated on their March issue, which features Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Nintendo Power has shown a preview of the front cover and the first page of the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance article. The issue includes a whole new interview with Tetsuya Nomura, along with information that has surfaced since the Jump Festa 2012 event. This issue will be available in North America on February 28th 2012.

- There is an extra cutscene at the end of the credits.
- The Mark of Mastery will not span the entire game.

Fandub Dream Drop Distance: Fandub Production Special Trailer - (IMPORTANT)

Hello KH-Vids. As I continue to wrap up the new fandubed video for the special trailer, I've noticed that this time around auditons have lacked.

We just made the seven mark and only one member has sent in an audition for the Tron Legacy characters. I'm looking to post the trailer in the upcoming day or two, so if you haven't auditioned, please send in your lines as the Tron characters.

I haven't been able to find anyone else that can take on the role of the Tron Legacy characters at this time. If this continues to be a problem, I may cut those characters out from the trailer.

Submissions: Please send all auditions to me at cgnetproductions@aol.com. Email subject must say KHV Fandub Production_username_charactername(s). All lines must be sent as username_character_line#. Please send audio files as mp3. Audacity would be a good program to use for this audition.

If you are new to auditions, you will also receive a "pin" for at least trying to be involved with the Kingdom Hearts community.

Edit: Sorry for those of you that are confused. I submitted the thread with just the translations by accident before listing the info above.

Cat beat me to it, but yes it's Roxas' necklace emblem.

Hm... I'm not as excited as I want to be, given I already own 358/2 Days and Re:Coded. The cards look kind of cool, but they don't look beyond impressive.

However, I did notice that the Days cover is different, it has black lines above and below the artwork, and some grey line on the right that looks like it has illegible words on it... Final Mix? 8D

About a year ago or two Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days turned into a greatest hits title in Japan. That's what you are seeing...

Hello KH-Vids. It's officially a month and nine days until the release of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance in Japan.

Speaking of the release for Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, The Message from the Kingdom has updated on the Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary 3D+Days+Re:coded Box. This is a special bundel set that is set to release along with the title on March 29th 2012. A first look at the box can be found above.

Hello KH-Vids. Did everyone enjoy the trailer from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance that was released just this week?

Just days after the trailer surfaced, it was confirmed that new scans from "The Grid" known as Tron Legacy in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance would be featured in the Weekly Shōnen Jump Magazine. Hopefully more scans will surface, but for now at least we have this scan.
