The word delusion can be used in different but similar circumstances. People can be said to have delusions of grandeur. Or perhaps they have the delusion that they have the perfect life when really it is all a lie that they just refuse to see.

But anyway, this is getting off-topic. If we are to go for the one that makes the most sense with the evidence we have then evolution is the one to go for. Creationism just does not make sense (and is virtually completely incompatible with the evidence we have).

I believe the technical term for that is a delusion. Something that you want to be real, even if it isn't. As has been said, the human mind is a powerful and interesting thing. Something real that we don't understand.

Actually I didn't. I was told that it was what she said and presumed that from the significance of the statement that she would not have said it lightly.

All I'm saying is subjective "proof" is never evidence. It can only affect one person, because they are the only one it has happened to. Hence why I rely on objective, independent evidence to explain the world around me. Evolution has that, religion hasn't.

As has been said before, people who say that evolution makes no sense obviously have never actual read into or studied it in any great detail. I suggest reading the Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins, it's a good place to start (I have just finished it myself today, moving on to the Extended Phenotype).

There is proof that there is no god in exactly the same way that you say that there is proof that there is (that was a terrible sentence ._.). Many people caught up in disasters or who witness terrible acts feel that there is no god. They know in their heart of hearts that there was no-one there and that the random act of violence and death was just that, random.

Mother Teresa herself said that she could not feel god, from all of the pain and suffering she had witnessed.

I understand, I was just talking about that aspect of it. It could also be seen (on the point of lovers) that the loss of a mate prevents reproduction and so would not be desirable genetically.

Umm what? How is that relevant to the example I gave? It is still an individual instinct. Genes that increase their numbers in the "gene pool" become more numerous (obviously) and so those that keep their relatives alive would become more numerous. Nothing to do with "good of the species/group".
On the point of reproductive age again no conscious choice by the genes. Those that saved elders over the young simply did not get passed on as much and therefore are not as numerous.

It is not emotions, it is part of our nature. We have evolved to look after copies of our own genes which are much more likely to be in the bodies of family members than those who are not related to us. They are also more likely to be in the bodies of those who look similar to us, hence why race could also become a factor.

The age argument is also genetically based. A child has more opportunities in the future to pass on their genetic material than an old person (especially an older woman, they should technically be the last ones to be saved as they can no longer reproduce).
