I feel like one of the things people in this thread are forgetting is that electronics aren't meant to last nowadays like they were when we were kids.
There's an original Game Boy in that Nintendo museum in NYC that survived a goddamn bomb and still plays tetris. Hell, my grandmother's NES got knocked around a ton when I was a kid and it still works fine.
And yet, in high school I went through three DSs, and my brother replaces his phone screen at least once a year. Mass-marketed electronics just aren't as sturdy anymore, with our obsession of making everything portable. (Except Nokia phones, those things are still goddamn invincible.)

I feel like that's why they went with a sturdier design. I'm willing to bet I wasn't the only kid who just threw their game boy in their backpack with all their other sh*t and didn't worry about whether it got broken or not. The design wasn't particularly meant to be pretty, imo. It was meant to last longer.

DigitalAtlas is right. The 2DS is being marketed toward younger children. No 3D means little kids can't accidentally turn it on and f*ck up their eyes. No open/close means you can't sit on it and f*ck it up when it's open. It's lighter, and the buttons are smaller, making it easier on little hands. It's also a bit more durable, and it's going for 129$ a pop, meaning parents will have less worries about their kids f*cking up an expensive toy.

In fact, you're not even supposed to have a 3DS if you're under 10 years old (because of the 3D), so this is great for elementary schoolers.

Yea, but you've forgotten to take into account that, for like the first year or two I was on here, I posted outside the Spam Zone maybe a dozen times. I tend to disregard everything I did before about 2009, internet wise, so it's more like just over 100 posts in a year. So maybe more like three and a half years.
