This is a much more believable scenario. Provided that God exists, I really don't like the "God does it for reasons we can't understand" concept. If God had control over everything that happened, then there would be no purpose to life, and in effect, murderers could not be held accountable for their actions, because they could not change their fate. I don't have a problem with religion. I personally don't feel the need to worship anyone/anything, but it's fine if other people take comfort in it. Still, I don't like it when religion discourages thought. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's some "fourth dimension" of reasoning that we can't hope to begin to understand, so the "it is God's will" generalization just seems like a way to ignore reasoning, and icorporate religion at th same time. I don't think it's fair to say that God can control everything, mainly because there is so much that suggests otherwise. If he does exist, then I think he plays the role of a parent more than anything. He brought us into this world, and hopes for us to achieve to the best of our abilities, but does not have the authority to live our life for us.
The thing is, a lot of Christians do believe The Bible word for word. And books and movies are different from religion because it doesn't impact the world on the same scale as religion. And did you mean "seminar"?

There's nothing wrong with believing in whatever you want, and Bunter is a bit of a Christian basher XD but I still think that people should be able to question the existing faiths. I agree with Bunter, that the idea of a baby dying because of a reason that humans can't understand doesn't make any sense. We've never seen any instances where demon babies started killing people. You could argue that that's because they've all been killed, but then why hasn't the source of the problem been destroyed, rather than the minor issues? Besides, if God was able to end human lives so easily, then crime would not exist at all, because the offenders would be killed before they could do anything. If these aren't one of the "unkown reasons" that lives are cut short, then I think it's safe to say that there is no reason. What's the point of killing humans if we can't hope to understand why they are being killed? And it's not like they pose a threat to God either, since they are mortal. And this may sound harsh, but I promise that it's only for the sake of discussion. You said that calling religious beliefs "irrational and illogical is just the easy way out of having to think outside the realms you understand." However, the way I see it, organized religion is a way of not having to think about outside forces, since you are told what to believe. People who don't have a faith, or create their own, are the ones who think the most about the mysteries of death, in my opinion. Let's face it, there's no way of proving that one religion is right, and that others are wrong. The ones who don't chose a religion are the ones that take this closest to heart. The thing is, this goes both ways; I'd say that most voters, on both sides, vote without looking into the issues. I've said before that Obama plans on finishing the war in a responsible way. In other words, finishing what we started, and in a reasonable amount of time. You're right in the sense that we don't know for sure if the candidates will be able to deliver. However, if we went on the assumption that they can't get it done, then there would be no point in listening to what they have to say in the first place. Obama's plans do make sense, and they are possible if you look at them, but we don't know if he, or John McCain for that matter, will keep their promises. Although, I'd say that Obama has a better chance of implementing his ideas, since the senate has a good chance of containing more than 50% Democrats, as much as 60/100.
I've seen this on T.V., I'm such a news junkee XD She also said he sexually assaulted her, and mentioned that it was a 6ft-tall black man. This whole thing has nothing to do with the McCain campaign, but they did make a stupid move. Once the "incident" was reported, they sent her their sympathies through her website. I mean come on, a 6ft-tall black man raped her at an ATM and carved a letter "B" into her face? Sure, it's possible, but it seems so obviously fake, and unoriginal. The letter "B" was even written backwards, as if she was stupid enough to do it from a mirror's perspective. With a story this fishy, you would think that they would at least wait until it was proven true before sending their condolences. This seems so stupid that I suspect she may actually be a Democrat trying to hurt McCain's image, as well the image of Republicans as a whole.

We haven't been saying that the majority of America is racist, but there's no denying that the McCain/Palin rallies of late have appealed to the worst of America. They've said things that are only based about 1% in truth, and used it as a justification for racists (who are probably not paying any attention to the issues) not to vote for Obama. Questioning whether or not he has terrorist connections is nothing less than fear mongering. Some people are still trying to tie him to Muslims, even though he isn't one. That however, I think is the most absurd point of all: Muslims, not Al-Qaeda, which suggests that all Muslims are terrorists. This is what we meant, and if you've been watching the news lately, you've probably seen it yourself. It's also true that many blacks are voting for Obama because of his race, which is unfortunate that they aren't paying attention to the issues, but the Obama campaign hasn't been feeding into it at all. Either way, it's mostly because of his political party. I don't remember the exact statistics, but I think that something like 90% or more of African Americans are registered Democrats. Besides, even if all African Americans supported Obama (which they don't), they only make up 12% of the American population, while whites are 68% of the population. So, it's completely unfair to say that Obama is winning just because of his race. At this point, the McCain campaign isn't appealing to many past the far right, despite their claims of being Mavericks, and I don't mind saying that they are making fools of themselves. Repliku...that was beautiful XD It was a little brutal, but that's what made it funny: it takes a lot to get you even a little bit pissed and have it show. He isn't actually planning to pull troops out right away. I hear Republicans always say that "what Obama wants to do is wave a white flag", but it's not true at all. He says that he wants to end the war in a "responsible way." I don't understand how anyone could object to ending it responsibly. He does want to get everyone back as soon as possible, but I believe that is in about a year or a bit more. I think that's a very good plan, since there's no reason for us to stay in Iraq past that. Afer all, the Iraqis are capable people, so we shouldn't have to babysit them forever. What disturbs me is that McCain's plan has absolutely no timeline.
