xxxxxx When she laughed, Devyn stared at her until she was finished. They really had...not gotten anywhere near close with the demoness, had they? She had known it before, but it was more evident now. Crestatia and her were alike, in a lot of ways. Maybe that is why she had survived for so long. Kallisti's laughter faded out and Devyn placed her plate under her seat, relaxing herself and staring up towards the blue sky. A gentle 'thud' alerted her and she turned her face to Kallisti again. Her plate had dropped and she looked rather winded and surprised. Why? ❝S - Sorry . . .That . . . is interesting. She sounds normal. N - Normal . . . It sounds like a fitting personality . . . I am interested in meeting that side of her.❞Not quite believing her, Devyn nodded slowly and moved to take the canoe paddles into her hands, rowing them with the current. The river carried them underneath a tall, curved, stone bridge, and soon, into a more swampy area. The forest trickled in and fleshed out, soon engulfing their surroundings and blocking out the sun. The sounds of birds fluttering among the treetops and frogs croaking atop lily pads filled the air. ❝Pity.❞ You never will. The water turned a muddy green hue, thickening around them and pooling. A bit after the change, the canoe stopped, and the front bumped into a willow tree.❝The river ends here.❞Reaching into the top of her nightgown, Devyn's fingers pulled out her key. When she was done, she dug through the picnic basket for her music box and opened the top. The same number of figurines as before. Tch. Her men were useless, it seemed...She would be taking care of one now, at least. There were still too many running around. This game needed to end before day one-hundred. It had to. She closed the box and opened the second compartment, looking around for a model of one of her smaller guns--no, maybe not a gun. A knife. Devyn needed to be aware; she liked Kallisti, so she would like to remember slitting her throat. Once she found the knife she wanted, she dropped it into one of the canoe models. The clanking sound made her lift her head and she closed the box, put it away. Afterwards, she took hold of the knife. ❝I hope you enjoyed last night, and this morning, Kallisti. I ... greatly appreciated your presence. It was wonderful meeting and spending this time with you. We could have been great friends. Maybe on another gameboard, we were--or will be.❞Without much of a warning besides that, she crawled her way onto Kallisti's side of the canoe and lifted the blade to her throat, pushing forward so that the blue-eyed girl before her slipped down over the seat and into the crook of the canoe, allowing Devyn to close in between her legs. ❝It is nothing personal...❞ Her tongue ran over her bottom lip. She wondered if Kallisti would struggle, hoping she would. Oh, this was exciting...! She looked so precious. A shiver ran through her spine. Devyn's fingers trembled and her head spun with anxiety as she prepared to swipe the blade.
xxxxxx ❝I am able to swim, so I suppose that it is a bit of . . . Well, it is mostly uncomfortable. Drowning isn't a pleasant thought - I . . . guess it doesn't really make much sense, does it? Perhaps it is the subtle rocking motion. I could never quite get over watching the movie Titanic.❞ Kallisti was a bit ... funny. Even she did not understand her fear. Devyn found this difficult not to laugh at, playfully of course, and filled her mouth with french toast and strawberries. ❝What is . . . Crestatia like? When she is calm, I mean. Every time I have come to cross with her, she has been angry - but I suppose that is the rest of our fault.❞ It was a question that she understood, but she had to think about. There was really so much to say, that she found herself quite absorbed with her thoughts and zoning out a bit. ...Maybe a tad more than ' a bit, as a small dip of the river she would have normally anticipated, startled her. She jumped and her shoulders lifted. The fork she was holding dropped down onto the floor of the canoe and Devyn's head lifted to Kallisti's face as she went to grab it. Embarrassing. Once she had obtained the fork, she turned slightly in her seat and stared off the side of the canoe and into the water, trying to distract herself from her own heart beat, and accelerated blood flow. Embarrassing indeed. ❝...She has a lot of feelings. Whenever I am able to speak to her casually, she is describing to me an emotion. She is angry, or she is sad, or she is tired. There are a lot of things that bother her, and that she dwells on. I believe she is a perfectionist, and she has high expectations. She suffers a lot of disappointment, and worries quite a bit about ... everything there is to worry about. Besides that, she is usually calm and focused. She does what needs to be done, even if she does not enjoy it. Crestatia is not all ... terrible. But she is not all good, either. There is a list of things I dislike about her. Sometimes, she is needlessly cruel. Also, when something or someone is rendered useless to her, she does away with it as quickly as possible. Sometimes she is a bit of a know-it-all, and looks down on people. I believe she kind of...expects everyone to be like her, and when they are not, it takes quite a bit for them to prove their worth. Overall though, I do think she is responsible...at times, kind, with a strong maternal instinct to those she cares for or sees great potential in...❞
xxxxxx Tremendously happy with the choice, she helped her push the canoe into the river and climbed inside with the basket. It was not until they were out, drifting atop the water, that she noticed Kallisti's ... resignation. She seemed stiff and uneasy and Devyn was baffled as to why that would be. The water was beautiful, tranquil, and soothing to her soul. Why would anyone be afraid of such a lovely thing? Then again, there were not many things Devyn was afraid of. They began to eat and she turned off her mask, chewing and swallowing before flipping it and turning it back on to answer Kallisti's question. ❝It is made out of a material you can see out of, but not into...Like a tinted glass.❞ After a moment of silence she utilized by taking another, large bite under her bag, she spoke again. ❝Why are you frightened...? Can you not swim?❞The canoe turned in the water, drifting calmly with the current of the river. A few minutes later they were a bit of a ways away from her home. It was a familiar route for her, but she wondered if Kallisti would become further uncomfortable.
xxxxxx Devyn perked an eyebrow at Kallisti's coughing, but was pleased to see she had something they could cook together. Had she not come up with anything, they would probably been eating some eggs and toast. Something simple. While this...French toast sounded quite elaborate, it would fill them up and last them for a while, and that was good. It had been a while since she had something rich to eat. Today would be a relaxing day, if it went right, she thought. Quietly, she watched her go on and on about the dish, making a mental note of the ingredients they would need while simultaneously mulling over how reminiscent Kallisti sounded. ❝. . . Sh - Shall we get started?❞ With a nod, she entered the kitchen and switched on the lights overhead. Once she was through taking inventory, she got out the eggs, milk, butter, toast, cinnamon and sugar to start with. Unfortunately, a trip or two to the basement for the deep freezer and some extra ingredients had to be made, as it had been a while she cooked so much. Letting Kallisti know she could start, she left the kitchen and went to fetch those things. ✖ xxx✖xxx✖About an hour later, their breakfast was done and Devyn was packing everything into a large picnic basket. One that brought back hundreds of memories and made her a bit nauseous. She separated the toast from the butter, jams, syrups and whipped cream, and put the fruit into another, cooled compartment. Then she took two jars of milk, bottles of water and orange juice and put them in a the section next to that. Meticulously she checked over everything, noticing that she had forgotten napkins, plates and utensils. When everything was as perfect as it was going to get, she picked the basket up and turned towards Kallisti. ❝Alright...If you think you will get cold, you can take a blanket from my closet when we come to it. Otherwise, do not worry about getting changed. It will just be you and I out here.❞ They entered the bedroom and Devyn slipped her house shoes over her feet, showing Kallisti where she could get a pair of her own, if she wished, and sliding back the glass door. A cool breeze blew into the room and Devyn breathed it in. Once the smell of the river came through the bag on her head, she was in bliss. Her stomach turned with anticipation, and she stepped out onto the patio. Casually, she scanned her large, tarp covered infinity pool for anything odd and then made her way around it. Thick, wooden planks pushed into the dirt acted as stairs and descended down one by one. Vivid green plants and trees swayed gently around them as Devyn led Kallisti to the riverbank. It was a bit of a chilly breeze, but the sun was eating away at the clouds and tickled at Devyn's exposed arms and ankles. It felt lovely. For a moment, she completely forgot about Kallisti. A house of her own, beautiful and just the size she'd always wanted...A loving pet and an endless amount of resources at her disposal...What a wonderful game. Without it... They reached the river bank and Devyn gazed longingly at one of her canoes, turning towards the dark-haired girl again to speak. ❝Here or out on the water?❞

xxxxxx ❝Good morning, Devyn . . . ❞ Happy to see that she was not one of those to sleep in all day, Devyn smiled and pulled the curtains away from the glass door, letting new light pour into the room. ❝Good morning, Kallisti.❞ ❝. . . Breakfast?❞ ❝Yes. I was going to make it alone, while waiting for you to wake, but I figured you may want a say in what we eat. Come to the kitchen with me and look through the cookbooks, if you do not have anything in mind yet. I can make it for you, or we can make it together.❞ Again, without waiting, she exited the bedroom and walked to the kitchen. Chestnut scampered towards Kallisti to greet her and Devyn shook her head, taking a seat at the dining table to wait for Kallisti to make her decision. Her fingers drew figures on the glass table. ❝Also...❞ She began, lightly. ❝I was thinking that we could take our food to the river and eat, there. Either on the shore, or we could take a couple of my canoes out to the water, assuming you can row, of course.❞

xxxxxx Before the morning came, Devyn was awake. Her eyes stared out into the darkness for a bit and she took a moment to listen to the flow of the river coming from outside. Devyn could feel Kallisti's body heat radiating against her spine, and became a bit more ... relaxed, knowing the girl was still around. She had not been in the mood to chase anyone down. Relishing in the warmth of another person for a bit longer, Devyn sighed and shifted until she was on her back, staring up at the ceiling and deciding to put the bag back over her face and keep her mask switched off. The next few hours were spent in the living room with Chestnut, watching a bit of television. It brought her an inexplicable thrill to see herself on the news. It also brought her joy to know that her rhymes were impressive to some. People were trying to find a deep, psychological reason for her using them--but there was none. It just seemed like a fun thing to do. When she became bored of that, she traveled to the kitchen and began to flip through some cookbooks, wondering if there was anything in particular that Kallisti would like to have for breakfast. Her heart still yearned for the river, and she had come up with a nice little outing for them, she thought. There were just so many options... In the end, she decided to wait for Kallisti to get up and decide for herself. At around eight in the morning, Devyn returned to her bedroom to wake Kallisti up, making sure to switch her mask on.
