If you want to post your laptop model info I can have a look at it. As long as you're not trying to stream like... new games at max settings you should be okay.

    Here's a basic diagram:

An HDMI (or other display) cable goes from your console to the capture card. The capture card sends the video signal to your TV, so you can watch and play on there, via another HDMI cable. The capture card also sends that video signal to your laptop, from which you can then stream or record.

Basically, you'll need a capture card if you're looking to stream or record anything off your Xbox 360 or PS3. Handhelds get into fuzzier territory, but if you tell me which ones you're looking to stream off of I can give you solutions for it.

Streaming PC games doesn't require any additional hardware, just a program. It's rather simple, though you should make sure your PC can handle running both the game and the streaming software at the same time. The most popular program to do this is XSplit, though OBS is also quite popular.

Streaming from your consoles will require you to buy a capture card. Speaking generally, a capture card will take the video output from your console (likely over an HDMI cable) and transfer that via USB to your computer. From there, you can record or stream the footage. Most modern capture cards will also have a video output, so you can still watch/play off your TV (the computer display will have lag). It's worth noting that this will run you around $100 to $200 for most capture cards available these days. SD capture cards are significantly cheaper ($35 - $70), but then you're obviously limited in quality.

I've written up pretty extensive posts on the different capture cards available on the market today. This was my most recent post on the subject, and it's still up to date as far as I know. Make sure you read the note on HDCP, though that only really applies to PS3 owners (and PS4 but that's going to change in an upcoming firmware update). If any of those products catch your eye or if you have additional questions about them, feel free to ask.

After you purchase your capture card, you'll use software to stream or record. Many capture cards also come bundled with their own unique software. Some are better than others, but if you don't like the one that comes with your capture card, XSplit or OBS will probably work fine (depending on what card you buy).

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both have their own internal streaming/recording features, eliminating the need for most gamers to buy capture cards. However, these console-specific solutions have a lot of limitations. I still use my capture card with my PS4 and I have no intentions of changing that. I don't think you have either console, but I bring this up just because I don't want anyone to think that capture cards are obsolete items.

Parks & Rec, Brooklyn 99, The Office, and The Mindy Project are some of the better workplace sitcoms in the last few years. I like the first two or three seasons of Community (Cooperative Calligraphy is a fantastic episode). Downtown Abbey is not a sitcom but it's one of the few shows my mom, my sisters, and I can all watch together. Gilmore Girls and Roseanne are older shows but IMO classics.

The Silence would probably refer to the monster in season six. The enemy in Silence in the Library is Vashta Nerada, and the title foreshadows .

My problems with New Who are mostly season seven; I positively love the first six seasons, faults and all, but I just considered this last one unforgivably bad (aside from Asylum of the Daleks and The Snowmen). The nice thing about Doctor Who, though, is that you can theoretically return to it in a year or two (when they get a new Doctor or companion or writer) and potentially have a completely different show to watch. In that vein, I know many people have trouble getting into season one. I did too, actually! I thought it was kinda dumb and just wasn't feeling it. I pressed on at the urging of a friend and started to fall in love with the show come season two (when David Tennant is the Doctor). After I caught up with the show (I started watching I think just as season six was ending) I went back and re-watched season one and developed a new appreciation for it.

It's also worth noting that the show takes a very different direction come season five, not only with Matt Smith as the Doctor, but because Steven Moffat becomes the showrunner (replacing Russell T. Davies). Those who loved Tennant and Davies often have a negative reaction to this, while those who love Smith and Moffat will sometimes dislike previous seasons, but I think most fans enjoy if not respect them all.

My best suggestion is, if you have a middling reaction to Doctor Who, skip around. Try episodes that have different Doctors in different seasons or just an episode with a description that catches your fancy. I put together a list of my favorite Doctor Who episodes (only seasons one thru four currently) if you're interested in giving some other episodes a go.

I've been downloading or ripping midis from video games, then chiptuning them. I'm glad you like them! I have a weakness for chiptune. This week we used Suteki Da Ne just to honor FFX.

Did you know that we have seriously revamped the podcast? No? SHAME ON YOU.

The biggest change is that we now have a new episode of the podcast every Tuesday. We have a more regular lineup: your hosts are myself, Llave, and libregkd, plus a staff and member guest on every episode! Another fun change is that we now accept user submitted questions, about anything from Kingdom Hearts, KH-Vids, the hosts, or just something totally random!

We really want to promote more user involvement in the podcast, and I know some of you rarely venture outside the Spam Zone, so I'm shamelessly posting this here.

We'd love it if you just check out episodes of the podcast (click the link above to listen to them or subscribe), but active participation is even better! You can send in a user-submitted question by filling out this form or emailing podcast@kh-vids.net. Likewise, you can apply to be a guest on the podcast through this form!

It's Tuesday which means we've got a new episode of the KH-Vids Podcast! Today myself, @Princess Anna , @libregkd sit down with @Karuta and @SPACESHIP to discuss the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster, and remasters in general. We go over what would compel us to buy a game twice, what we expect out of remasters, and the difference between remasters and remakes. As a disclaimer, there are no spoilers for Final Fantasy X or X-2 in this episode, so don't feel you must avoid it!

Ooh I stand corrected then, I knew Terra was in FF6 but I didn't know much beyond it.

To be clear I meant player character when I said main character. I'm shocked nobody brought up FFX, Tidus is important but Yuna is definitely the main character. And as I said the FF series has previously had some awesome ladies, but never one billed as the main character as prominently as Lightning.

To add to this, of course learning to deal with negativity in a healthy manner is important... but looking at a situation where someone is being abused (verbally, emotionally, or physically) and telling them to grow a thicker skin blames that person (the victim) rather than the abuser. Sadly this is exactly what a lot of schools do, and often how the world works. But that doesn't mean we have to perpetuate it really.

(not saying anyone in this thread was exactly doing this, just tossing it in)

FFXIII is an inoffensive, decent game. It doesn't live up to other Final Fantasy titles in my opinion but it's not awful trash either. I've not played XIII-2 but given what I know about it, it's about the same. LR is a whole other story, not only a frustrating sequel that very few people wanted (its sales are pitiful), but a mediocre one at that judging by reviews. There are people far better equipped than me to discuss the flaws of all three FFXIII titles, but I'm just going to leave it at: I don't personally dig them.

I'm not a fan of Toriyama because he makes Lightning his computer generated sex doll, playing dress up games with her and plotting to put her in every piece of Square branded media for the next 3000 years. It should be a surprise to no one that I (and many others) was excited to see the Final Fantasy series finally get a female MC (not to say that there are not excellent female characters in other FF games), and I think Lightning did have some strong points there, but seeing that Toriyama boils it down into "mm yeah lightning so sexii" is frankly sickening.

I've been watching this add-on since before the alpha release because I know the arcade was a very popular feature and I'd really like to bring it back. The version you linked has been in development hell for a long time now, which is why I have not installed it. However, the development was recently taken over by xfrocks (who is a very reputable and high quality developer for XenForo), so development should pick up again some time. I have no idea when a more stable version will be out but it's at least good news.
