She seemed to go into thought and he waited for a real answer. Of course, sneaking a patient out of a hospital was illegal, but Harley remembered busting Al - ah. Well, he just remembered that and the weight that the Lein name carried. If he was careful about this, then he wouldn't have to, but there was always that as a last resort. As he waited, he began calculating the best routes out of the hospital. The psyche ward was probably the tightest in security, but that wouldn't be so bad. They had plenty of gardens around, but all of the fences were fairly high so that no one thought of trying to climb out. In the southern most part of the hospital, there was one garden . . . It was pretty small and hardly used, but it had an emergency exit that could be opened. Then again, all emergency exits were locked in case there was an . . . well, an emergency. Harley listened as Heidi's heart monitor sped up and he thought that they might be tripping up or something, or that they were telling her things about the medication. As she messed with the flowers he had brought, she calmed down. " It's fine, " she said, " I - I have a bottle, back in . . . " He leaned forward just slightly to hear the rest of the sentence, " Back at the school. " Oh, that's right. She stayed in Altair's room while she was at BAE, didn't she? That was troublesome, that room would be off-limits until the case was cleared, even though there was really no case to put. What to do about that . . . Heidi's doctors probably had more medication for her, but it would be in an office, with other patients' medications. That office would probably be locked. He wondered if they upgraded the locks here since the picking-protected - probably. They'd be card-recognition, code, or fingerprints. " You'll . . . You'll really take me with you? " she asked with a hopeful voice that he tried not to turn away from, " I - I promise. " He looked at her, hard, trying to be sure if she was really honest or not. Harley didn't like liars, or people who didn't keep promises ( he found ways around his troubles by mixing up words, hah ), but would Heidi really lie to him like this? After all, this was pretty serious, and if he fucked up, he'd be arrested, and they'd probably move hospitals for her. He looked at his watch; still fairly early in the day. She'd come with him to Theo's little . . . get together at Antilum, so he only had a few hours to bust her out, get to a store, and buy her some nice clothing. Finally, he sighed, " Alright. Deal's a deal. " he said, standing up, " Sit tight, kiddo, we're gonna bust you out of here. There are some things that I've got to do first in prep, so I want you to see if you can convince your nurse to take you to the Liberum Avis Garden. It's a small place, but she should be willing even though no one uses it anymore. Last I checked, it was still in great condition. " he explained. Before she could ask questions, he went on, " As for me, there's a matter of emergency exits and codes. This hospital isn't high security, but the psyche warden isn't just going to let one of her patients waltz out the door. " he explained with an easy laugh, " So get yours to take you to the Liberum Avis Garden, and I'll me you there in . . . about twenty minutes. " he told her after looking at his watch. A little illegality was exactly what he needed to take his mind off of things. There was nothing like a good puzzle to cheer him up, even if it was only for a little while. " See you there, Heidi, " he said, kissing her on the forehead and then heading out the door and down the hall. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just before he thought that she was going to keep quite on the subject for good, she started, " Train accident. " . . . A train accident. " With Zoey. Got hurt. Left a few days ago, but then . . . " He waited for her to finish that bit, but she went quite again, and he knew what she was referring to. She obviously didn't want to talk about all that had happened and he didn't blame her, but he figured keeping it all in wasn't the way to go. As she went on, Harley found that her sentences were short and to the point; also very avoiding and impersonal, like she was telling a cop what happened. He silently clicked his tongue in irritation at being treated like some sort of stranger - but she probably didn't mean to. When she finished telling him, " Stuck in the hospital, huh? " he said with a hint of a sympathetic smile, " Maybe that's good for you then, after everything you've been through. " Personally, Harley didn't like hospitals, and it was rare that he ever landed himself in one since the family had a doctor of their own, but for someone like Heidi, maybe this was the best. In the hospital, they'd definitely be able to keep a check on her sickness and make sure that she didn't get out of control. He sighed; then again, he didn't want her in foreign hands, either. Before he said anything else, she spoke up, " How do you know? " This stunned him, and because her words were soft, he didn't know if she was walking to him or not. " Will you . . . get me out? " she asked hesitantly, and Harley wondered if she was expecting him to say no. He wanted to say no. It was against a proper human's better judgment to say yes, but she looked pretty miserable, and he didn't want to see her like that. Was she using him to get out - did she know that he might probably say yes? A bit of a low blow, but he almost laughed - he would do the same thing. He didn't blame her for wanting to get out. Or was it her that wanted to leave? " You don't sound too sure about being 'all better', " he started, leaning forward and looking at her intently, searching her face for trip-ups, " It'd be a bad idea for you to leave without proper medication. If you've got it and you're willing to take it, then I'm game for this bust out. " He shrugged his shoulders, but then looked serious again, " One thing though, you've gotta promise to take your meds. " Now, he thought to himself, to wait. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He wanted to smile when he found that she seemed okay, but he wasn't really sure if she was faking it or not. " Are those for me? " she asked curiously, and Harley brought them up to look at them. He wasn't a big fan of flowers, they were a pain to take care of, and he just wasn't willing to make that kind of investment into something he couldn't fully appreciate. While this would make him sound like he had no experience with girls, he did find that they liked flowers. Then again, Heidi wasn't exactly a typical girl. Gently, he set them on her lap and hoped that she liked them, " Got them earlier, thought you might like them. " The memorial for the nine victims of the . . . "satanic ritual" ( he scoffed at that pissass dub ) would be soon, but Harley wouldn't go to that widespread thing, to be around all of those people who probably didn't care. Come to think of it, it was tonight, wasn't it? That worked out just fine because he would be at Antilum anyway. Lorinda would probably hold a funeral for Kallisti, but it would be a small affair. Lee and Peter would be there, maybe even his mother; grandpa might be there, too. Harley didn't know if he would go to that. Would Lilith? Surely she knew by now. Damn, he wish he knew where that mansion was. She must be some kind of wreck by now. " You came. " Harley looked up, pulled from his thoughts. He sat down in one of the seats close to her bed and leaned back. " How are you? " This almost felt like some kind of guilt thing, where Heidi had been hospitalized all of her life and Harley had been some sort of childhood friend or something. He didn't like that very much. Maybe she had been hospitalized for most of her life, but he definitely hadn't done anything wrong in this situation. Except probably fail to protect her. Like he promised. He failed to protect Kallisti, too. Low blow, Jackson. " Better than yesterday. " he said, being against talking about his feelings. Then again, she probably didn't want to talk about hers too soon either, " Feels like it's been raining nonstop since all that shit happened, but it's bright as morning outside. Like Nature's way of saying 'get over it' . " he said, giving her a distant look. When he realized that he had been staring for too long, he looked away. " So when are you getting out of this place? How'd you even land yourself in here to begin with? " The funeral would probably be in a few days, maybe three. He didn't think that Lorinda was cold hearted enough to force him to come, but he had no goddamned idea why she would let Peter go. Probably to play the good mother? The good face of BAE, of one of the most powerful families in this side of the country? He didn't know how these things worked. He wondered what kind of flowers Kallisti liked. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It was strange, waking up like this. He had never cried himself to sleep before, and so his eyes stung a bit and were heavy, and his cheeks were stained with the tears. No more crying today, or again. There was no time for that, not anymore. He sighed as he remembered he was going to the hospital today, to see Heidi. It would be nice to see her again. It was comforting. He needed to get out of this place - that feeling of being trapped here, inside his room, almost inside his head . . . Harley really did want to see her, but he felt so hollow inside that it felt like it wouldn't make a difference if he were there with her or not. Who knew, maybe that would change when he actually saw her. The music was the one thing that kept him focused on the morning and the fact that, despite what had happened, things had to move on. Everyone else would move on, but for the people who were stuck in this game, time might as well have stopped. A vibration in his pocket drew him out of his lulled state and it seemed that he had received an email. An exasperated sigh almost escaped his lips, as he thought of the possible subjects it could be about. How ironic it would have been if it were another demon saying that he had a hundred days to live. Of course, he could only be so lucky. It was labeled as being from Theodore Weldon, Weird email? . . . The Antilum Labs. That name was familiar, somehow. His mom, before her health and mind went to shit, used to be a doctor, so maybe that was how. Maybe he had been there before? Theo wanted to gather all of them in one place, but from experience, Harley knew that was never a good thing. Then again, nine of them had just been killed not too long ago, so would Crestatia be willing to rid more than half of the small amount left? He didn't think so - she still wanted this game to be interesting. Tomorrow night, huh? Sure, he'd be there. Send to: Theodore WeldonSubject: RE:Weird email?Hey there, Theo. We met in the library a while back. The 'weird' email has been around for a long time, but I guess none of the BAE kids believed in it. Haha. See you there, Theo.- HarleyHe sighed. After all that had happened, were there kids who still didn't believe the email? He rubbed the back of his neck and began to think of what formal clothing to wear. For these kinds of things, Lorinda would have never let him step out in anything less than a personally tailored tuxedo. He hated formal events, but he was curious about who would be there, and so he'd go. About half an hour later, Harley was at the hospital, walking up to the clerk's desk, " How may I help you today, sir? " she asked, giving him a sort of eye that he knew was checking him out. Ignoring it, he replied. " I'm here to see Heidi Layne. Could you tell me her room number? " The woman, who seemed to be in her middle twenties or so, turned delicately to her computer and began to look professional, looking for the patient he had asked for. When she found it, she looked at him over the rim of his glasses, " I'm sorry, but that patient is not allowed to have visitors unless they are family or a spouse. " His response was immediate, but smooth, " She's my lover. " he told her in a more soft tone, and she seemed surprise, if not a little crestfallen, " I would like to see her. " For a few moments, the young woman studied his features as if to check if he was being honest or not, but she couldn't tell. With a sigh, she told him the room number and Harley was on his way. When he found that he was going in the direction of the psyche ward, he sighed inwardly. The voices must have come back - no surprise, he guessed, considering that Heidi was particularly close to Altair. Had she had a breakdown? Probably. She seemed stable enough over messages, but . . . Knock, knock . . . Slowly, Harley creaked open the door and poked his head in to see her sitting on the hospital bed, attached to tubes and other things. At least she looked alright. " Hey, " he said, walking in and grasping out a small bouquet of white Oleander flowers in his hand. It was nice to see her again. He did feel better. A little, anyway, " How are you? " And a small silence followed. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When he stepped out of the shower, sopping wet, he dried of his dripping hair and then his body. After wrapping a towel around his waist, he took a step to look at himself in the steamed mirror. It was blurry, but he didn't really want to see himself anyway. From what he could tell, he looked like hell, although the signs were minimum and no one else would be able to notice unless they were looking for it. He sighed and wiped the steam away. Harley stepped into his room and looked around for the stereo system. Although he had messed with it a million times, everything felt out of place and foreign. After a while of looking through the music on his iPod, he found the album he wanted to listen to. ♔ THE ANTLERS ✖ HOSPICE ♔ The music had started playing, but he knew this was a bad idea. This album was only something he listened to, once in a blue moon because it was . . . extremely emotional, and only a person without a heart or emotions ( which many people had insulted him with ) wouldn't be moved by this music. When it began, Harley changed into night clothing ( which consisted of just loose shorts that hung low on his hips ), he flopped onto his bed and laid the semi-dry towel over his face. The music went on and it relaxed him, but began to sum up his emotions into one very large, dense ball of black matter that weighed so much on his chest that he almost couldn't breathe. He had slept most of the day, more out of emotional exhaustion rather than anything else . . . He had turned on the news that morning, finally ready to figure out who it was that died. First Bellhurst, the news reporters were saying, now the Brookridge Academy of Excellency. A murder case they called it, and the two schools had one student in common; Altair Geis. Harley clicked his tongue. Altair's hand, sure, but it must have been a possession killing - not that anyone outside of the recipients of the email would know that. Not that any of the recipients were allowed to step forward and voice the truth. Then came the list of names. Oh, the list of names . . . Harley knew there was a reason he disliked watching the news. Heidi's text had been too late, for the news had already delivered the blow. At least she didn't cause him more pain. Kallisti was gone. Allison was gone. His best friend and his cou - Mm. Who was he kidding anymore. Kallisti wasn't even his cousin. That's why they seemed so incestuous all this time. Harley was adopted into the Lein family when he was little. He looked nothing like Peter, nothing like Lilith or Lorinda. He was adopted. He didn't text Heidi back. She'd probably understand. Altair was dead, too. She was probably in mourning for him. Anthony was dead, too. Harley kept to his room all day. When he wasn't sleeping, he was sitting up on his bed, his knees pulled in and his head resting on them. No matter how much sleep he got, he was completely exhausted. And when the right moments came, he cried. It had been years since Harley cried, about anything. But he did, and it was thankful that the rooms were insulated enough to where no one outside would be able to hear him. So he cried more. Louder. Until his voice was hoarse and he ran out of tissues. And cried. And cried. And then some. And there was little he could ask for. He craved some sort of comfort, now. Some sort of maternal figure. Not his mother. Not his grandmother. Surely, they both knew Kallisti was dead now. What would Lorinda do, now that she had lost her crowning jewel? It would be a small funeral, he decided. His throat hurt. His eyes hurt. When the crying was done, he sat in bed and stared blankly at the wall. Hours had passed without him noticing, without him moving . . . And then it was later in the day. He decided to text Heidi back. Heidi. She was his only friend now. Haha. Pretty horrible. With the way things were standing though, it seemed they would need each other, and he was willing to let it be. She still needed protecting - hadn't he promised? He did. But he needed her, too. Hey,How're you holding up?Doin pretty ****** myselfMiss you.I hope youre okay.stay safesee you soon- harley He set down his phone and picked up a book. He set the book down and sighed. It'd been such a long time since he'd had stimulating conversation. Fortunately, he was able to swivel away from the subject of his cousin early on. Heidi had never messaged him back with the status of Kallisti, but Harley had a fairly bad feeling about it . . . He sighed. They talked about a lot; how she had completely faked her death, what she did after, how she stayed hidden this whole time . . . What bothered him the most is that she hadn't given him a straight forward answer about why she did it. There had been an explanation about causing the regret to her only daughter, to let her daughter feel the suffering, but nothing beyond that. Somehow, though . . . Somehow, he seemed to be laying in his bed - what the hell? Man, this whole 'being a secret' business was annoying. He didn't know how he got where and when, but . . . From the corner of his eye, he saw a pure white feather dance down from the air. Only . . . Not really. His mind was tired. He was tired. Tomorrow, he would find out what happened to Kallisti. Emotions sucked pretty badly, he had decided when he opened his eyes. He supposed that . . . last night could be thought about more because he had been truly terrified at the prospect of Kallisti being dead. Not that the fear had just poof'd away today, but it was less of a burden on his heart, and he had more sense than his tired mind had last night. Would he be devastated if she was dead? Yeah, but it wouldn't deter him. This game, it seemed, was built to break them, but Harley wouldn't be broken. So long as there was something worth living for - and trust him, he would find something to live for - then it was worth living. Besides, NO SUICIDE was one of the rules, and frankly, if he was going to be punished, he didn't want it to be for a stupid thing like killing himself. Why was something like that a rule, anyway? Man . . . He almost hoped his cousin failed in summoning Crestatia. Maybe she did, and that was the way she had died? If she died, that was. Heidi didn't exactly tell him who it was, but . . . if that message was to more than one person, then multiple people died. Would it be on the news? Maybe his aunt would be watching it. Maybe she would find out something fucking terrible that way. If Kallisti was dead, he didn't want to be the one to tell her. He didn't even want it to be true himself because it meant something awful - it meant he failed in protecting her. He sighed as he rubbed his face, suddenly tired. A knock on his door sounded and after staring at it for a moment, he called for the visitor to come in. " Good morning, love, " Oh, it was his aunt. " Good morning, Lilith . . . " he said, flopping back on to his bed. " Oh, good, you didn't tag on that 'auntie' bit, " she said with a small laugh, " Didn't quite fancy that, much, made me feel like an old woman. " Harley gave a little laugh as she sat down next to him. For a little while after that, silence fell between the two of them, and there was a question lingering in the air. One small sight later, and the question was released. " Ah . . . How has she been? " Lilith asked gently, albeit a bit slowly. Harley closed his eyes. This was a question he didn't want to think about. This was a conversation he didn't want to have. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Happy birthday, darling. I hope it's wonderful for you.
Sometimes. One half of me is like you, Nate, and the other is like Muff. There, there. * pat pat *
* reads list of favorite songs * * sees no hand in hand * For shame. All of the Kingdom Hearts music is absolutely fantastic, and I have a handful of favorites to choose from to be that one, but I just can't do it. I love Destati ( the music that plays in Awakening ), Hand in Hand ( thought I might prefer the original to the Dream Drop Distance version ), and Hikari ( the orchestral remix ). There are lots more, but those might be my top three. Maybe.
I was sure it was going to be localized, but now that there's been an official announcement, I did a little happy dance around my room that might have been a little . . . much. I should be glad that it's coming out at all, but it's a bit disappointing to hear it'll be so late in the year.

He swore that the woman had put something in his tea. A very strong relaxant. All of his nerves and senses were completely numb and it felt so nice. He had never been at this much peace in his life. Ever. The message would read, he knew, that Heidi was glad he was alive ( and vise versa ) and that she would try and look for his cousin. He looked back at the woman. Sigh. When she saw the tired expression on his face, she gave a soft smile. What a good boy he had grown up into. His mother would be proud. She scowled at the thought of his father, but she digressed. He wasn't the best man, but she was already absolute in her knowing that his son wouldn't become like him. She sighed. " Alright, love, I think it's bed time for you, " she began, rising from her chair in front of the fire, " Come now, I'll help you to your room. Pip pip. " Harley gave a long sigh and took the hand that she offered. He was much taller than him, but she wasn't as delicate as she looked. As they walked out of the large study and down the several hallways, he leaned on her for support. It was nice, he had to admit. He felt like not even his own mother would do this for him, and it was great that for once, he didn't have to do everything for himself. He missed it, basically. She sat him down on his bed and supervised his undressing so that he wouldn't fall over. After tucking him in like a little boy and kissing him on the forehead, she stood at the doorway. " Goodnight, love. " she said gently, and then closed the door, leaving him to sleepy darkness. " Goodnight, Auntie Lilith. " he said sleepily, dozing off. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Really, the whole situation was pretty damn surreal. Harley tried asking her where this place was, but she was pretty dodgy in her answers and almost felt too clever for him. It was irritating, but since he figured he wasn't in any immediate danger, he could relax. " So . . . " he began, clearing his throat, " How long have you been hiding out here, exactly? " The woman looked a bit stunned by the question, but her pale face quickly cleared, " You sound far too much like your father, Harley, " she said with a nostalgic sort of smile on her face, " He was always trying to get answers as well. A pity, about him . . . " Harley wasn't having any talk about his damned father, especially not from her, " Y'know, I'd really like it if you answered one of my questions straight, for once, " he said, more sharply than he intended. She looked at him with a coy smile and then gave a delicate laugh, " Very well . . . " she started off, " Just over a year, now. Perhaps I would say a year and a half? When you have so much time alone, you tend to lose track of it. " He leaned forward in his chair, a bit of an angry look crossing his face, " And you're just now revealing yours - " His phone vibrated in his pocket and he looked at it, not realizing that he had his phone in the first place. His sights returned to the woman and with a smile, she motioned for him to check it, if he wanted. It came out of his pocket and the screen lit up; it was a message from Heidi. Oh, first time in a while that they'd talked at all. With a sigh he read the message, but then froze upon finishing it. . . . Please be alive? Was he okay? Uh. He must have been physically deterred by this message because she spoke again, " Are you quite well, dear? " she asked, a motherly concern tinting her voice. Did he look pale? Goddammit, wearing his emotions on his sleeves . . . But . . . If Heidi was sending this message ( because it didn't look like he was the only recipient ), that meant that something bad happened. That meant that someone died. Kallisti,Goddammit, if you don't replyyou had better not be deadthis is NOT a good time for you to be dead- Harley Fucking hell, if she was dead . . . Harley looked back at the woman. His heart was racing - what did that mean for him. He almost felt like crying. What if she was dead? God. Shit. Fuck. Hell. Goddamn EVERTHING! " He didn't realize that he was roaring that last word while the chair practically flew across the room. " Harley Jay Jackson! " the woman scolded with a loud, commanding, and very scary tone. It made him stop and stare at her with wonder. Who knew someone so small could produce a sound so . . . big.
