VLC has a terrible UI and is primarily designed around streaming and cross platform performance and it sucks at the performance part. It has seeking problems if you're not on a elder god of a computer(seriously raw seeking sucks and should never be used). It outputs TV colour ranges and that requires screwing around with drivers settings to change. And the big kicker is it's terrible mkv support.
I DO hope you plan on modding it.
