Ya'll are talking about limiting your kids stuff untill they're 15 or whatever, but you do realize that the majority of users on this site (especially the oldies like me) found this site circa age 12, right?

Personally, I'd probably go for a mix of how I grew up and my own thinking for what is best. I literally cannot remember a time when we didn't have a computer in my house, which I used, on my own, from the age of about 2 or 3. One of my earliest memories is playing the original Mario on a NES with my cousins.

Phones, yes, definitely limited. Kids don't need their own cell until they're AT LEAST 10, imo, but that might change when I actually do have kids. I might have a kid who's really mature at 8 or something. Either way, all they're getting until jr high is a crappy prepaid phone, at which point I will reevaluate the situation, talk it over with my spouse and the kid, and go from there.

Tablets... we'll see. Both of my nieces got tablets for christmas when they were 4 and 6, and that is waaay too young for expensive tech. Those tablets that are made exclusively for kids don't seem worth it to me, as they'll be useless once they hit like 5th grade, but no way in hell would I give a young kid their own IPad. (I might be persuaded to let them play a bit on mine, though).

I imagine I'll have some sort of 'family computer' or something when I get to that point, so they're free to use that. I don't see the point of limiting the internet with parental blocks, really, except that tab in the chrome settings that changes how NSFW your search results get. And when a kid reaches the point where they know how to turn that off, well, I guess they don't need it any more anyway. Like how when a kid figures out how to get out of their crib, they're ready for a real bed.

Finally, consoles. Dunno about my future spouse, but I don't really own many games that would be considered 'not cool for children'. Just the horror games, which are easily hidden. Stuff like the N64 and SNES will be free to use, stuff that's a bit more expensive will be a bit more regulated, but I probably wouldn't buy them handhelds until grade school, at the very least. And it'd be like. A 2DS or something.

I sound like I'd be way too chill as a parent, and I probably will be, but there's a gigantic difference between talking about how to raise your child, and actually doing it. You have to be extremely flexible, especially about stuff like this, because being too stubborn just causes more problems.

Thissss. I used to get so much jewelry and makeup and junk like that from my aunt, and it's just sat in my jewelry box for years.

(Now I love makeup though so that gets used.)

    I don't see why not.

But we might end up spending all day at Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

    Kay.

    We're honeymooning in Disney World.

I can see your point here.

I was exaggerating a bit when I said 'quarter-machine ring'. Something cute and simple that I'll actually wear is fine. I don't wear much jewelry on the daily in the first place, so likely a ring would get put away where I wouldn't be able to lose it. Or put on a chain so I can wear it like a necklace.

This is why, when/if I ever get married, I don't want expensive jewelry. Just get me one of those quarter-machine rings and we can spend the money on something practical.

    Like video games.

This year was both good and bad for me.

I lost both my grandfathers within a week of each other.
But I finally convinced my mother to let me go to therapy.
I started out the year with zero moneys.
I still have zero moneys, but at least now I have a job I adore that has kept me from completely draining my account.
    My sister got married.
I started a professional Youtube and Twitter account.
    My artwork has improved.
    I started school again.

So yeah, except for the thing about my Grandad, not a bad year.

What's something you guys do that makes you feel smarter just by doing it?

I'm not talking about sludging through school every day. I mean, reading wiki articles for fun, or doing a Sudoku, or fixing up your car by yourself.

When I was little, I was the only kid in the house at Christmas time, so I got pretty spoiled rotten with the toys. Like, when I was seven, I got a PS1 AND an Easy-Bake Oven AND a bunch of other stuff.

Then my siblings started sticking around at the holidays and I started getting to the age where my mother didn't know what I liked unless I told her outright so I got less stuff, but the stuff I got was more expensive.

Nowadays I am once again the only kid in the house but my mother still doesn't know what I like so I generally write a short list with a few games or something on it, and my mother will take me to the mall and basically tell me she'll buy me whatever clothes/accessories/other small items I want.

    Tl;Dr, Generally ~$200-300.

I WANT A SMARTPHONE but it's not gonna happen.

More realistically, I want to not be in wild debt and to get at least a 95 in my Art History class. Also purple high tops.

I mean, I want world peace.
