I'm not really sure what the paparazzi has to do with this...? I do know he has had confrontations with paparazzis before and I am sympathetic to them but nothing I've read (which isn't much) suggests that he was, at the time, being pursued. It sounds like he was irresponsibly driving an ATV, hit a minivan, and then assaulted the driver.
One call that I read about was made through Skype and they were attempting to track down the caller. Spoofing your caller ID information and generally fiddling with telephone technology I guess lets some people get around being traced, but I'm fairly confident that if the government wants to find the person, they'll find them... at least eventually. I imagine many of the callers are minors though so that would interfere with them being punished for it.
I agree with the disgust in the first video, naturally -- the police reaction to a narcotics situations was completely over the top violent. Even if an officer has probable cause to search without a warrant I can't believe it would be legal to use that amount of force, and certainly not legal to throw a grenade without first assessing the situation. The second video is also a gross overreaction that could have been easily solved by school officials simply talking to the kid. That's sort of the problem with arresting someone for "disorderly conduct," it's vague enough to turn into "we don't actually have a reason to arrest you so we're just going to say disorderly conduct." That said, I don't think these situations are comparable to the SWAT teams we're talking about here. SWAT teams are being sent in because, from my understand, the calls people are making to the police often claim that someone has a gun and has shot people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatting In these cases it's understandable that they're sending in a heavy duty force like SWAT teams rather than the regular officers who should have been dispatched in the case of the first video you posted, as they believe that violent crimes have already been committed and someone will most likely need to be stopped with force. In these types of situations it would be difficult to conduct an investigation first (as they should have in the videos you posted) because there's a strong possibility that more people will be killed -- it's an immediate, pressing situation. They have to respond to these calls regardless of whether they believe they are legitimate or not, so it's really the responsibility of people to not be *******s and not call in fake emergencies. Apparently it's some sort of contest when swatting to try to get the most heavy duty police force sent out (like you get bonus points for getting helicopters, that kind of thing) so the cases seem to be reports of particularly violent crimes, hence why such force is being used. Legitimate police calls are made everyday and the best way to deal is to investigate everything with the appropriate amount of force.
There was an article that talked about it quite well, I'll just quote some of the important parts from it. http://www.dailydot.com/opinion/guardians-of-the-galaxy-fails-women/ Aaaand then a tumblr post (again quoting key parts / parts that weren't already covered above). There is a little bit of overlap in topics though but this one is good because this person is at least familiar with the comics, which I'm not, and I don't think the DailyDot author is. http://americachavez.tumblr.com/post/93949483878/what-was-wrong-with-guardians-of-the-galaxy I don't expect anyone to read all of that (I swear I tried to cut it down) soooo key points: Peter starts out as a ****** but is never called out on it and never changes, unlike Tony Stark Rocket suggests that Gamora ****s someone to get out of prison when everyone pretty much wants her dead and she has a notable alternate skillset, being a deadly assassin Drax calling Gamora a whore (haha it's funny when men degrade women) and Peter calling Ronan a ***** (haha let's insult men by calling them WOMEN) Fridging of female characters from the comics, who also happen to be queer Peter is pretty much a womanizer which doesn't have any basis in the comics Advertising the film with naked shots of Gamora (to be fair they definitely capitalized on how ripped Chris Pratt is but it's still not okay either way) The film is 100% about Peter, not the GotG Gamora's backstory was done extremely poorly, her relationship with Peter was pretty poorly done as well
The last thirty seconds or so were aight but the rest just felt really flat and disjointed, like a kid who just found out how to play those weird samples on a keyboard and decided to make a song. If you want to hear the future of pop music...
I've filed this like forty times on the KHV Youtube account. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Oh yeah definitely, totally agreed. By time I meant the SWAT team's time as well as the streamer's, but we can't forget that the SWAT team could be responding to actual threats in that time and that taxpayers have to incur the costs of this "practical joke." And you're absolutely right about the possibility of injuries.
I always source the art in my sig if you want to know
i knoooooow ;)
In terms of the marketing campaign, I agree that Guardians was trying really hard to capitalize on connecting to Star Wars mostly (you could argue Star Trek as well but Star Trek is more proper scifi than Star Wars & Guardians, which are more of space fantasy imo). In terms of the movie I agree with burnitup that it was more leaning on 80s music & pop culture references, which to me got... excessive really quickly. The music was nice in some places but felt too much of an attempt to pander to the audience. What I still can't resolve about Guardians is its complete lack of emotion. It seems to have traded developing characters and having the viewer emotionally invested in them for enjoyable but far from witty humor and pop culture references that I assume are lost on some of their major target audience (kids). It's just such a strange movie because I genuinely want to like it but there's just so little there for me to like... not to mention its incredibly spotty and generally awful treatment of women. It's not a bad movie. It was fun but I just couldn't love it like I wanted to or like everyone else did. I don't know.
lol if youtube is now implementing video content id matches instead of just audio they're ****ing like 80% of their userbase. i used to just copy and paste some fair use thing into there, i'm sure you could find it on the internet somewhere
i sat here for like several minutes trying to think of a witty response that conveyed my frustration & lack of amusement at this but all i can conjure is please stop
do you ever think about how we all used to use 100px avatars
The article says he was released so I'm not sure why people would be concerned about 'freeing him'. Regardless, this is a pretty repulsive "joke" people are playing. A disgusting waste of everyone's time... can't believe people are immature enough to find this **** funny. Hope they get arrested.
NO JOKE TY I WAS JUST ABOUT TO POST THIS THREAD Just downloaded his album after falling in love with God's Whisper. I have to say, he chose the absolute coolest way to drop an album -- it's absolutely free, you just have to play a little game to unlock the download. Check it out here. Really nice stuff, I agree with the frequent critique that it's a bit... messy, in that it jumps around a bit, but I think that's alright for a first release. He's definitely still finding a sound but it's pretty fun getting there.
yeah I... don't know how else that term can be explained. you record locally
Do you mean converter?
Skype, then a combination of local recording and callburner to sync.
The whole thing was manned & planned by Chevalier who is no longer on our staff team, so it's probably not going to reopen in its current form. That said, we are cooking up something fun in its place.
