I watched the first episode yesterday and really liked it. It was very tightly-focused and did a good job of creating compelling characters without playing their full hand with their histories and extremes. The tension was portrayed very well, but I'm not really sure it allowed time for the horror of such an event to sink in. Maybe we'll get more of that moving ahead with the day after? I did wonder, though, why anyone thought it was a good idea to bring the designated survivor straight to the White House in the immediate wake of a terrorist attack on Washington, DC.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ash isn't literally younger, lol. I think it's just as much a reboot as every other new region has been for the anime--just a soft reboot. Though I agree that the slice-of-life direction it seems to be going with could be really interesting. The writing for XY/XYZ is said to be the best in all of the Pokemon anime, so let's hope that that continues.

A.) I'm pretty sure events have repeated in the past in the Japanese version, so Snow White may happen again sometime. But we don't know yet. B.) There isn't one in the global version, and I'm pretty certain there isn't one in the Japanese version, either.
