SSBM had 25 characters, with the removal of some clones technically we're comparing Melee's 17-20 charater roster to Brawls (hypothetical) 30, which still results in 13+ new characters

Already posted and had a relatively lengthy discussion on, Dogen =\

Going back to that original discussion, why don't you think we'll see Animal Crosser as a character?

Ever since the first trailer I had a feeling that my first Main character would be Metaknight, and with his Moveset revealed and some gameplay videos and his Final Smash, I think I made a good choice, he's shaping up to be an excellent character

Yeah that's my point, when I imagine a Megaman character I think Cutman blades, Fireman fireballs, Iceman frost, Gustman wind, etc. which to me doesn't sound at all like Samus xD Only thing tying them together to me would be his Blaster, but the rest I see as being his Copy abilities + Booster + Energy Blade, etc.

Well, you just remind me of someone I know who is also a fan of Sony, and you always have to read between the lines to hear what he's really saying ;)

You know, I hear people say that Megaman would be so similar to Samus, they must be getting this notion from more recent Megaman games that I've never played or something, because I always imagined Megaman being the classic NES/SNES Megaman which isn't like Samus

Right, so we're going to go ahead and have a back and forth dispute over one point in my post, and use that to disregard every other point made?

Either way, onto the article itself; a lot of those points are rather subjective , really moreso just a series of coincidences to say"lol hay PS2 had rubber duck demo, so does PS3, teehee" than something to list and say that the PS3 is doing something to repeat the PS2's success

The Wii had a worldwide launch in the November/December window, PS3 wasn't available in 1/2 the market until March

So, other than minute disputes over launch date, you should have also pointed out that technically the PS2 and the Xbox launched with the same price, though to the Xbox's favor considering you were getting a more powerful console for the price of a weaker console.

Yep, early September Aonuma sat down with GameInformer to talk about Phantom Hourglass, and the topic of Brawl came up

    http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200708/N07.0802.1741.54921.htm

GI: Have you been consulted at all for the usage of Link or Sheik or Ganondorf for Smash Bros. Brawl?

Aonuma: I’ve been working with Sakurai for a very long time with this new Smash Bros., because the Wii came out and when discussion for a new Smash Bros. took place nobody could think of anyone other than Sakurai working on it. He was kind of the default, and I was very happy to hear that he would be working on it.

Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they’ve had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We’re working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.

I'm not saying it all went to Character creation, but Ganondorf being reworked as a new character was definitely something the fans wanted addressed, and I think the team knew this, and 2+ years of work is time spent addressing the sort of things fans, and I'm sure Sakurai and his team, wanted done.

Ganondorf in Melee was essentially fanservice, they threw him in quick and easy as a more powerful badass Captain Falcon with a face everyone would want to play, but now that they have the development time they can make that same Fanservice character into something unique like the character deserves xD

Plus I mean, Eiji Aonuma already stated that Sakurai contacted him to redesign Ganondorf for Brawl, plus that Sakurai said that certain clones would definitely be reworked into unique characters I think Ganondorf was in mind during that comment ;)

Also, I spend way too much time editing my posts and adding in afterthoughts xD this one was like 3-5 minutes of rewriting sentences and adding in things

Yeah, but you have to think, Melee had a 10 month development time, they really did not have a whole mess of time to work on that game, which is why a lot of it was recycled moves, characters, stages, modes, etc.

Brawl has had 2+ years of work

Not a top priority? It doesn't need to be Top Priority right now, character creation is something they do in early development, whatever they're doing in these next 4 months is all going to be Beta work; bug/glitch finding, fixing up the physics, working out the character balances, and adding some final polish and dazzle-sparkle-sparkle to the game

They invented Captain Falcon from scratch in the original SSB, I mean he literally was a blank slate of a character and they just invented his crap up, you don't think they're up to give Ganondorf a moveset when he actually has some material from Twilight Princess to work with? o-o

    Ganondorf out completely? Why!? o-0

He's like the clone with the MOST potential to actually be decloned successfully and become unique

So, let's hear some Brawl predictions. Here's mine:

-30 character roster on the dot
    -16 veteran characters
    -14 newcomer characters
-2 more Newcomers will be announced on the Dojo
-4 more Veterans will be announced on the Dojo
-2 Newcomer characters will be completely unknown to everyone until the game is released

    Newcomers:
    -Animal Crosser
    -Megaman
(Only two I can accurately predict and be assured of in my estimation)
    -???
    -???

    Veterans:
    -Ganondorf
    -Captain Falcon
    -Jigglypuff
    -Luigi

    Additional Predictions:
    -Lucas replaces Ness
-Sheik returns, is still tied to Zelda (Either through Down+B, or Sheik is a result of Zelda's Final Smash)
-Ganondorf decloned, entirely new moveset and uses Twilight Princess model with Sword
-Luigi decloned, uses his Polterghost 3000 from Luigi's Mansion

Well, actually I think the PS3 is more comparable to Microsoft's Xbox

    -Released the last
    -Most expensive
    -Touted as having unecessary hardware
-Huge, black, monster of a console (xD)
-Was the most powerful console of them all, yet never actually showed it, developers never had a reason to push it beyond what could be done on other consoles
    -Exclusives all stolen by competitors
-No good games early on, but had several titles said to be the 'savior' of the console that never really delivered

Well, to be on topic, Brawl boxart was released yesterday

Not sure whether you guys have seen this yet, since it technically was 'released' on September 2nd unofficially as a rumored boxart (it started appearing in japanese retailers, and eventually Amazon/EBgames/eStarland/etc. but Nintendo made it official today), but I figure I'd post it anyway since you guys seem to be a little slowpoke on Brawl news
