OOC: It's not Venture shooting...It's the Brotherhood Driver. BIC: Venture was too far ahead to get hit by the Brotherhood member's weaponry. Xane's vehicle was skimmed and he was rocked back a bit. He was unharmed, but Nulix manged to pass him, along with the Brotherhood Driver.
Venture managed to drift left and right to keep anyone from passing him. The Brotherhood member decided to make use of his artillery. He fired various cannons, standard, blasters, and even directed his mini-gummi to the driver in front and ahead of him. Many drivers were unfortunate enough to get hit by the weapons. Others were dead the moment the blasts hit their cars. Sellers managed to get out of his car to avoid damage. He tumbled safely down to the canyon below. He was effectively out of the race...
OOC: The obstacle isn't appearing yet. It'll take a while. It doesn't have to be a meaningless obstacle. I was hoping you'd make it important to the plot. BIC: The Brotherhood driver slammed his vehicle into Nulix's. Sellers started to try and gain a lead while the other drivers were distracted. Xane was also starting to gain a spot in second place.
Pharell casually looked back at the drivers behind him, then directed his ship's mini-gummi toward the other drivers. The mini-gummi pelted the other racers with with machine gun fire as the next obstacle approached. It was the harsh gust of wind. The drivers knew how to get past it. It was arguably the easiest obstacle from the training exercise. The mini-gummi's bullets were becoming a problem, however. Venture Jr directed mini-gummi of his own to fly directly into the machine gun fire. The resulting explosion destroyed each mini-gummi, though it proved to be distracting enough for Venture to take advantage and get the lead. There would be no more obstacles for a while...At least not until the U.P.A reveal their "surprise obstacle". For now the racers would have to rely on their own skill and cunning to get the lead. OOC: I'll leave the surprise obstacle to you, Nulix...
Xane narrowly made it past the laser columns. His vehicle was slightly singed on one side. Despite this he had reached the top three. Nulix and Pharell were in the lead. Behind him was Venture Jr, the Brotherhood driver, and Sellers.
Xane merely shot through any incoming boulders in his way. Several more appeared to roll after the leaders, but Sellers managed to get rid of 'em with his rapid fire canon. "Don't you all worry," Sellers said. "I've been through these races several times. I won't let some damn cheaters ruin it for you first timers." The next obstacle was ahead. It was a series of laser-like columns. They were similar to the columns on the Light Cycle races on the Light Space Paranoids. Touching them would often mean disaster. OOC: Might have to go soon...
Xane took advantage of his ship's durable armor and charged through the mine field, causing a distraction from any driver unfortunate enough to be behind him. Venture Jr. activated his thrusters and arrived next to Nulix. Sellers was close behind him. Xane managed to catch up to Sellers. As the drivers made their way around the off-road track, the Brotherhood driver decided to play dirty. He shot several missiles at a nearby canyon wall, causing the boulders to tumble down ahead of schedule.
There it was. The canyon jump. Those who were wise would wait until they nearly hit the ground, then hit their boosters to leap over the pit of smoking vehicles below them. To the drivers that made it past the first obstacle, they were greeted by a barren landscape, full of more traps than they could have ever thought of. Fortunately the first one was familiar to those who went to the training session. It was the mine field. Pharell was still in the lead followed by a Brotherhood Pilot, a driver from the Dark Pride Lands, The Sky Tiger, The Falcon-22, and Nulix. Xane wasn't too far behind and Xardius was on his way.
Xane's vehicle was on the tail of the black and red gummi. Minutes later he had caught up to Nulix. Opening his comm-link, Xane stated, "Look out...the first obstacle is right in front of us." The obstacles set up for the main race were mostly different from the test track. They were all listed in the driver's manual found in every racer gummi. The first obstacle was a giant cliff that took the drivers from the track to an off road canyon. The drivers would have to make the best of their two second booster rule to survive.
The other Brotherhood officer was soon slowed down when Xane rushed in front of him and blocked his vision. The Brotherhood driver angrily, charged his ship at the Magma Phaser, causing Xane to put his ship's afterburners on full blast. The resulting flames singed the Brotherhood driver's vehicle. *** Racing past Nulix was Venture Jr. in the Sky Tiger, followed quickly by Pharell Titan and the Falcon-22. The latter vehicle piloted by the U.O's friend, Sellers.
Brotherhood racers zoomed by Xane on the track. He was determined to cut them off at the first turn. In front of the Brotherhood racers was the U.P.A agent, Pharell Titan.
After the hour was up, hundreds of drivers started heading to their gummi. Xane hopped in the Magma Phaser, and buckled up. All of the drivers lined their vehicles up at the starting line, waiting for the alarm to sound off. Three...Two...One!!! The race began! OOC: Unfortunately, I have to go. Don't know if I'll be back or not, so look out for me. Nu;lix can handle the race. He can add some extra obstacles as well. Just don't finish it without me. I'll be back on either later tonight or tomorrow...
"The Ultimate Organization," Pharell greeted. "I suppose Lexx already told you of the U.P.A's offer. Good luck in the race," Pharell nodded, walking away. Xane didn't really react, as he was still wary of the U.P.A. "Yeah, let's head to the tracks," Xane said.
"That's enough, time to get ready," Xane said, noticing Sellers approaching them. "You guys test out your vehicles yesterday?" he asked. "Uh-huh," Xane nodded. "Good luck, then," Sellers nodded. "I'm no slouch either. Especially since my wife is coming to watch." "Good luck, then," Xane said, as Sellers left and the U.P.A agent Pharell Titan approached. He was the current champion of the races in several circuits. One would wonder why he came down to one of the minor leagues.
"Me too," Xane said. "Anyone know when the race will start?"
"You gonna answer my question, Lexx?" Xane asked.
"Even though Brotherhood members are participating?" Xane asked. Then his cell phone rang. He quickly checked it and saw a text about some amount of money. He didn't have time to look into it, because he had to prepare for the race.
"Yeah," Xane nodded. "So, you hear of any new obstacles that might be added?"
"Right..." Xane said. "Look Mellodia told me to watch out for the Brotherhood in this race. She also said to look out for the U.P.A's 'surprise obstacle'. Whatever that is."
"What?" Xane asked. "You ready for the race? And you went to that eye surgery thing? I guess it wasn't a trap after all..."
