Aidan did a double take when Seraphina appeared apparently out of nowhere.

"Ciao Aidan. Buon natale. Are you enjoying yourself?" Not really. He was depressingly on his own. He wasn't going to say anything about that. It would hardly be in the spirit of things really. After all, this was meant to be a happy time after all.

"You did great in the play by the way. I though you were more of the shy type, but it looks like I was mistaken." Well at least someone thought he did a good job. Maybe he wasn't a total fail after all.
"What can I say? I'm a man of many talents." Aidan replied, hoping to sound either funny or confident. It probably wouldn't come out right, so he bolted something else on to the end. "You weren't so bad yourself." It was true. She'd done a pretty good job overall. Her (over)confidence helped her get through things without a hitch for the most part. Aidan found himself with little else to say. What else was there to say? He hoped she didn't make things awkward. If things got out of hand, he'd have to leave her alone and that wouldn't be fun for either of them. He doubted it though. What was she going to do that could do that? Why would she even do that anyway? After all, he was only a gamer and a bookworm.

Aidan sat down with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in his hand in a chair in what he presumed was the living room. His part in the play had gone over reasonably well. He only screwed one line up badly, but fortunately everyone else had managed to cover for him in that. He hoped it didn't kill it too much. Christmas had been a good time. He had woken up at 6:00am due to that damned alarm and had woken his parents, Delilah and James up about two hours later. A bit early perhaps, but he felt it was necessary. They all sat down to open up presents together. It was one of his favourite times. It was just him, mum and dad there together doing something. Notable presents included a few upgrades for old faithful, his PC. A better graphics card, new motherboard and another 8gb of RAM was pretty good. On top of that, he had recieved a few new books, much to his delight. Most notably was a book called Revan, based on the Star Wars character of that name. Not that most knew about him, after all, not many knew about the Expanded Universe and he knew more about it than he should.

Now at the party, he didn't know what to do. He just sat in the room. He had seen people around, handing out presents here and there to friends, but he didn't recieve any and nor did he give, so overall he was not surprised and didn't expect anything from them. He'd be more surprised if he recieved anything. A warm welcome, maybe even a 'hello' and a civil conversation with someone would be a good enough present for him. God knows he didn't have enough conversations with people. He had listened somewhat attentively as the rules were explained. This was going to be his only glass, and the condoms would be totally unnecessary in his case, or at least he hoped so. He knew none of these people well enough to even warrant anything of the sort. He quickly turned his mind off the subject.

It was a real shame he didn't know many people here better. It would be nicer if he did. Maybe this was a time to get to know people? He sighed. There were people about, but most of them were in conversation and he didn't want to intrude. It seemed rude to do that. He remained sitting down, lamenting how alone he was. The only person that appeared to like him at all was Seraphina and it seemed that nobody liked her either. He was a little concerned about that girl. She was asking for his number, trying to hang out with him and he noticed a few odd looks from her before. It worried him. He wondered what she was thinking about him. Nothing more than a friend he hoped. That's all he saw her as.

He couldn't help but feel a bit depressed at the sight of everyone else. Laughing, smiling and being social. Enjoying being around one another and here he was, alone with his glass of white wine in a room seemingly alone, even though there were some people in the room. He just didn't have the will or courage to get up and say hello and get involved. He sighed again. Forever alone. That was him. All because he was too much of a damn coward to go up and say hi and try to be involved. That was going to be the death of him, or so he thought. He dearly wished that he possessed that skill. Maybe it could be learned? He hoped it could. At times like these, he didn't want to be alone when everyone else wasn't.

Aidan remained silent after that, and resolved not to leave. Instead, he elected to sit there in the hall, totally useless. Some people came in yelling about getting their asses in gear, but he didn't know what to do OR if he even had a damn job. Nobody had made that especially clear, or if they had he wasn't paying attention at the time. He switched on his phone again and looked at it blankly. There was the number. The number of the one person here who apparently liked him. One out of... several. Nobody liked her either apparently. She seemed to be estranged from everyone else, though for different reasons.

He shook himself out of the almost trance like state. He needed to find something to do with himself, but what? He didn't know a damn thing about what was going on. He may as well ask. He stood up and cleared his throat.
"So guys... Need me to do anything?" Aidan asked generally, not expecting a satisfying answer. Hadn't he said he'd leave? He hadn't. Something inside him was telling him there was something to do here then. Well, he may as well find out what.

"Did you invite her?" It sounded like an accusation. He frowned. No! He had only just met her! He hadn't even been aware of it until that one girl mentioned it... Not that he remembered the name.
"No." Aidan stated. "I literally heard about this. signed up for Extra Part 2 and turned up here today. Don't think I got accepted. In fact, I don't even know at all. Not going to deny that I know her though. I met her literally yesterday morning, same time I find out about this oddly enough. We were both told this thing existed by erm... Hmm... Don't remember her that much honestly. Gruff, a little bit impolite? Not helpful? No? Didn't think so. Either way, I was told I could turn up, and I did put in a request to be given a part but hell if I know if that even got noticed, let alone accepted so... Yeah..." It was a bit rambly. Hopefully she'd get the message that he really didn't know anything and that he was told by someone he really didn't remember that he could turn up here and that he put in an application to be given a really obscure part though that was likely not noticed or immediately disregarded. The rambling really didn't help his case did it?
"You know, if it makes it any easier I'll just bugger off and leave you lot to it." Aidan suggested.

It was quite interesting honestly. The girl he had been watching, intending to talk to was here and he came to one conclusion. She was a *****. Rude, but true. Well, she was acting like one and if she was going to act like that, then he figured politeness may as well be dropped since she appeared to throw the entire concept out of the metaphorical non-existent window. Then there was the matter of Seraphina. He didn't know what to think of her. More information gathering would be required. Currently the cynicism was winning out, but as ever: Don't show it.

He stood up. He may as well say it.
"You know what how about this? I go. She goes. I assume my request to be given that one part was denied and never come back. Sound good?" Aidan demanded, though trying not to sound aggressive. It stung a bit, being met by immediate hostilities.

Aidan was about to reply to her when Maria came over. The girl he had watched for a few years was there telling this new one off. Despite the nerves, he almost felt like laughing at how Seraphina was being told off. The term was Schadenfreude he believed. Deriving pleasure from other's pain. It wasn't pain here per say, but it was close enough. While Maria was distracting her he managed to get a brief respite. He leaned forward, put his elbows on his knees and put his face in his hands. This situation was unbelievably awkward.

He now had her number. She was nice to him. She was very... forward and a bit intimidating, but at least she apologised for it. She had asked if he was alright, but she didn't know the half of it. It was practically an emotional battleground between hope and cynicism. He had genuine problems believing she was for real. Nobody was this nice to him. Was it real? Was it all a front? Was it all just a game to her, messing with people's heads and all that? He didn't know, he really didn't know and that lack of certainty scared him. Not scared. Terrified. She seemed a bit... Dominant. Overriding. He'd barely had a chance to get a word in. He rubbed his eyes. Seraphina Evangaliney Caroselly (He'd have to figure the name out properly) was going to be either a good decision, a trap, or just an average person who passed in and out of life like the people you meet at school but never keep in contact with.

He began to pay more attention to the scenario at hand. Wait, was she yelling at him too? The thought only just occurred to him. He took his head out of his hands and looked up.
"Were you talking to me too?" He asked. He wasn't sure.

Aidan nodded, impressed as the phone was brought out. He recognised it from adverts on YouTube that kept popping up when he was trying to watch videos. This one was clearly special though. It practically confirmed his suspicions of her being upper class. Then his attention returned to her face. She was batting her eyelashes at him. It made him feel a bit nervous. Was she purposely trying to be provocative? If so, she was doing a decent job of it. Despite trying not to, boys will be boys and one does not simply stop observing that the girl talking to you is remarkably pretty and appears to be trying to come on to you, as it were.

"I didn't get your number yesterday... Do you think you could give it to me now?" Aidan considered this carefully. His immediate reaction was to blurt out yes, but his voice caught in his throat. His aura of confidence which he quickly established broke, giving way to a nervous widening of the eyes and shakiness. He managed to get himself in line, though as he drew out his phone it was blindingly obvious that his hand was shaking.

"I was wondering about you this morning... Since I didn't know when I'd be seeing you again. What brings you here? I'm just checking the musical out today... I will see if any parts are available though. I love the theatre... Oh... How rude of me... I talk too much." Then she giggled. He felt a drip of sweat go down across his brow. From what he knew of himself, this was a sign of being very nervous. He was trying to keep himself in check now and it was hard. She was very pretty and he hadn't looked at the rest of her yet for trying to be a gentlemen's sake. She appeared to be taking a liking to him and it felt as if she was making advances that he didn't know how to deal with. He looked from side to side nervously. He switched his old phone one and it made the old Nokia dinging noise as it turned on. It was a bit old and archaic, but it worked well.

"Erm... Sure you can have my number..." Aidan replied, his voice shaky. He cleared his throat and tried to get himself back into balance. Fighting off nervousness and the normal male instincts when it came to attractive girls was hard, but he was managing. Finally his confidence managed to wrest control of his mouth somewhat.
"I'm here because I signed up for the all important part of Extra 2. Don't really know if I got accepted, and I'm here to find that out. I've um, had some acting experience years ago in musicals when I was back in Year 5 and 7 in the good ol' UK... But... I've... I've erm..." He was losing it again! Come on Aidan pull it together dammit!
"I've not... Well had any since really and me singing is only average, but it suffices.... Kinda." Aidan continued. He looked at her, looking her straight in the eye again. Maintain eye contact. That was important. But he feared it was too late. He bet she wanted to see him squirm.

Aidan was vaguely aware of someone nearby, though now he was focusing intently on the game. He had quickly switched from Jetpack Joyride to Infinity Blade II, and he was on one of the boss fights in the game. specifically the 'Dark Fiend'. It would have looked exceedingly weird to anyone who didn't know what he was doing, since his fingers were flicking across the screen rapidly. He paused the game and looked up across the room. There was that girl he had seen around many times.

That girl, specifically was named Maria Hartwick as he had discovered. Not by talking to her though. It was amazing what you could learn about someone by walking past them at the right time to overhear their conversation. He thought she was cute, but knew little of her and had been intending to find out more for years. Was it time to put that old crush aside and move on? Maybe. He returned to the game again. The fight was on it's final stages. He was leaning forwards on the edge of the seat, enthralled totally by the game. His fingers were flicking here and there across the screen as he dodged, parried and slashed at his enemy, as he cast magic to heal himself. Both he and his enemy were at low health. This was it. Final stage.

"Come on, come on, come on!" He hissed. The tension was visible on his face, the light of the iOS device flickering over his face. Concentration was in his eyes. He was set to win. Then, as per usual, his hand slipped and pressed the wrong button. His face was at first sullen as his character was mercilessly smacked round the face with a stick (Yes, one of the bosses in the game fights with a long wooden stick) and fell over and died. The sadness and disapointment quickly turned to anger.
"OH BOLLOCKS!" Aidan shouted. He turned the power off his iPod and angrily stuck it in his pocket. He closed his eyes and leaned back, clenching his fist, tilting his head towards the ceiling. After a few seconds he opened his eyes and looked down again.

That's when he noticed Seraphina sitting next to him.
"Oh hello!" He exclaimed, totally taken by surprise. "I didn't see you there!" He gave her a nervous smile. That. Was. Embarassing. She was probably going to laugh. Oh well. Nothing new. Aidan would probably get labelled a nerd and freak again and shoved out of society on his ass yet again. Nothing new there. He couldn't help being cynical. At least if he expected the worst he couldn't be taken by surprise right?

Aidan woke up yet again to the sound of the damned alarm clock. He quite frankly hated the damn thing. Upon being asked about it, he would claim that Satan's contacts in Apple created it specifically to piss whoever used that sound effect off. Unfortunately, it was really good at waking him up. So he put up with it, and made his mother, Delilah and his father, James put up with it. Yesterday he signed up in the musical for the glorious role of Extra 2. It seemed like a good idea at the time but nerves were getting to him somewhat. He needed to get going. Sooner, the better. He didn't even know if he was accepted for the role, but turning up seemed like a good way to find out.

Aidan ran through his usual routine. Breakfast with YouTube video, get changed, get out. Today, he chose a dark blue pair of jeans and another shirt, this time a blue and white striped one and the usual black trainers. As far as he was aware, it wasn't what was in, but he didn't care all that much. He wore what he wanted, and to hell with whatever this 'fashion' thing was. He grabbed his phone, a fairly dated Nokia that didn't even have Snake on it, and his iPod Touch. He wasn't all that bothered about the low tech phone. Made it less likely to be stolen for one and secondly he didn't need it. He had his iPod for games.

He set out of the house, earplugs in, walking to the sound of the FTL: Faster Than Light and Dishonored Soundtracks. He was a bit shaky on the bicycle and he didn't feel like riding and he certainly didn't know how to drive, and didn't care. From a previous attempt a few months ago where his father let him try in a field, he decided he would wait. He couldn't get the hang of the gear changes and even if driving an Automatic, he found the road scary as hell, and he didn't even drive. He stuck to having two feet on solid ground.

Eventually, he arrived. As he walked into the school grounds, he saw a Limo pull up and someone get out of it. It was that girl! Serathingy Evangeline Carousel! It was something like that. Upon further thought, he realised that it was probably Seraphina, and hoped he was right. It sounded upper class enough. She was certainly wealthy if she was being driven to school in a freaking Limo. It made her all the more of an enigma. One that he intended to crack. She was an interesting one, more so now. She seemed to have an aura about herself that indicated that she held herself above others, but this almost confirmed that. Just a little more detail, and he'd know all he needed to know to have a decent idea of who she was. If he was right... He feared they probably wouldn't get along. Not his fault per say, but he got the impression that she wasn't the one to well, 'mingle with the lower classes' as he thought about it, trying to put himself in the shoes of someone upper class. He wouldn't say anything about it though. All that information would come out of her, or it wouldn't. Whatever the case, he didn't intend to pry.

Aidan walked inside and took a seat, not even looking at Seraphina despite being very aware of her presence or any of the others until he sat. He positioned himself in a chair that was placed tactically so he could observe everyone in the room without seeming conspicuous. After looking around the room at everyone, he got out his iPod and began to casually play Jetpack Joyride, though kept an eye out for anyone approaching. This meant he died early and more frequently than if he was properly paying attention. There were obvious signs of irritation on his face because of this. Namely the frowning, the scowl and the occasional muttered curse.

Aidan Samarost sat down at his computer. Today was pretty mundane, except the cafe incident as he mentally referred to it as. He met some people he sadly probably wouldn't run into again and had a decent cup of tea. He had just had dinner, late as per usual. Mother wasn't terribly quick when it came to making dinner. It was nice. Can't argue with a homemade Steak and Ale pie, but it just was ready late. He booted up Skype. The groups he was in had a bunch of messages, some with 90 or so, some over 300. He then flicked over to the site he spent wasted most of his time on. He replied to some of the various Roleplays he was in, spent a few minutes in the chat room explaining to the new people how to get on the Minecraft server that the site had, and then replied to a few random threads.

Aidan then played three games of Starcraft 2. He decided to play Terran again for some reason and won 2/3 games as them. Marine/Marauder/Medivac all the way. He smiled smugly at his ladder rank. 8 out of 100. It looked like he might get promoted if he kept this up. With that, he switched the game off and then his computer. He pushed back off his desk on his swivel chair to the other side of the room (not very far) to his bed and wardrobe. He then put on a pair of pajamas and went to sleep.

That night he dreamed about the people he met. He was stuck in a dark hole, and in the dream they reached out to him as if to try and help him out of it. After he was lifted out, it whited out and he saw nothing but the infinite darkness of the void in his sleep. That was one to consider in the morning. What did it mean? What was it trying to tell him?

"I'm Kurt." Someone said. Aidan looked around. It was the one he thought looked a bit nervous. He took the proffered hand and shook it.
"Nice to meet you Kurt." He replied smiling.

"Okay, so Nat asked me to tell you about the musical. I'm Sarah. Pleasure's all mine and what-not" A gruff greeting, Aidan thought, but short and to the point. He couldn't necessarily blame her for her promptness. Not everyone was one for particularly fancy greetings with all the pleasantries. He got the sense that she was rather rudely abandoned and left with this crowd of strangers after the other two walked out all of a sudden.

"Anyway, the musical this year is a tragedy. I forget what it's called, but Natalie and some other person wrote it. It's a love story too. If you want, you can come sit-in at rehearsal today and watch" He got the distinct sense of her just trying to be polite. There wasn't any... He didn't know what it in it. It was missing some enthusiam or the natural flow of conversation. That was the best way of putting it he could think of. He thought about this. Musicals weren't his thing per say, but it might be good. He was willing to try something new. Why not? What could he possibly lose. He might even meet some more of this curious group.

"I think I might do that." Aidan said after two thoughtful sips of tea. "Always a first time for everything I suppose, so why not make it now?" This could be a potentially interesting day...

"I'm good... This is my first time in town, it's taking a little getting used to." Ah, she was new. That would be why he didn't recognise her, or at least it would be if he actually went out of his way to meet people. He noticed she was keeping her distance somewhat, but she had moved so he could sit, so he took the opportunity and sat. She wasn't doing it so much physically as she was mentally or emotionally as far as he could tell. Fair enough.

He began to formulate a response. What might be appropriate? After a couple of seconds he spoke.
"Ah, new here. Well, welcome." Aidan replied with a smile. He took another sip of his tea. Good. They made it the English way. His particular favourite. That was probably something that kept him different. His southern English accent. Somehow, he had retained it and it made him quite distinctive sometimes. "I'm not from around here per say, but I've lived here a while. It's a nice place, though not quite like home. It's got sunnier weather to start with."

The others had said nothing. Politeness principle? Probably. He kept his eyes firmly on hers, not looking away. It would serve him far better that way. He wondered what she thought. He knew he wanted a friend, though it was curious to consider what she thought she wanted. He decided not to think too much into the matter. There was no need for him to worry about what she thought, at least not much. Not yet at any rate. Perhaps if they became friends, then he might have to worry, but currently that was trivial.

"Good morning... My name is Seraphina Evangelina Carosella. It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance"
"A pleasure to meet you. My name is Aidan Samarost." Aidan replied, shaking her hand with his free one. Somehow this ended up alright. The name was a little strange and long, but it was no stranger than his. Seraphina... Interesting name. Nice though. He smiled "How are you today?"

Aidan was a bit worried, though so far it had gone alright, although he wasn't sure if one girl responding positively classified as good. One could hope. He looked at the others. Hopefully they would be nice. He was a bit nervous still. One had reacted well, and she was probably the most likely to react badly from his fairly meager observations. There was a kind of nervous looking guy who was probably no different than him. He should be alright.

Then there was the other one. He wasn't sure what to think of her. Maybe nothing. She was most likely neutral. He did his best to keep calm. It looked as if he was going to be fine, relatively speaking. He just had to make sure he didn't have a panic attack. That was the only thing he had to worry about... Kind of. He just hoped for the best.

Aidan Samarost rubbed his bleary eyes as he woke up, the familiar 'ERR ERR ERR' of his alarm bringing him to. He sat up and snatched his iPad, the source of the irritating as hell noise. He swiped across and it turned off. He put it down and listened. It was almost silent in the house. There was only the faint rumble of cars for noise. Small shafts of light beamed through the blinds that shut the light out of his room. He lay down again. He really didn't want to get up. He lay there for another fifteen minutes. Then the alarm came on again. He groaned and deactivated it. He had to get up. What was the time? He looked at the iPad screen. 6:45. He had somehow dodged 30 minutes of alarms and totally ignored the last one. It would continue on for at least an hour. He would get up now. That did not however mean he was going to be quick about it.

Aidan grabbed his iPad and his iPod and jammed a pair of headphones into the larger device. He took them both downstairs, lay the iPod down on the table and switched a YouTube video on as he made and had breakfast. After eating his bowl of cereal, he left it on the side waiting to be dishwashed later after dinner. He sat in the living room watching more videos. The final alarm went off. That was his cue to get changed out of his boxer shorts and t-shirt and dressed properly and get out of the damn house. He reluctantly dragged himself into his room and changed. He opted for his customary purple, black and white shirt, a white t-shirt, blue skinny jeans and when he got to it, his customary black trainers with white stripes. He looked himself in the mirror and messed with his hair a bit. It had got quite long recently, and it's unkempt appearance gave him a roguish look when he smiled.

Aidan walked downstairs and yoinked the headphones out of his iPad and put them in his iPod touch instead. He slipped his trainers on and set out of the house, locking the door as he did so. He put his music on, put the device in his pocket and walked down the street. The all too familiar tune of Dream of the Sky by Miracle of Sound came on, and he began to hum to the tune. As he walked he realised he was thirsty. He had neglected to have a drink this morning. There was a cafe across the road. He decided it would be a pretty good idea to go in and get a hot drink. A cup of tea would do nicely. He looked both ways then ran across the road and into the cafe. He yanked his headphones out of his ears, pressed the button on them that stopped the music and pushed them into his pocket. He smiled at the waitress.

"Cup of tea with one sugar and milk please." He said. He waited at the counter and surveyed the room. There was a group of people sat round the table and most of them looked around his age. One of them was a rather striking girl. She looked... Stunning and it was only by sheer force of will that he stopped his jaw from dropping. There was something about the way she carried herself... Confident. Very. He was judgemental, he wouldn't deny it, but he would wait to see if he got to know her any better before pronouncing any kind of judgement. There was another girl who seemed to be passing paper around. There was a boy who looked about his age, but he looked almost shaky. Confidence issues? Maybe. He didn't know.
"Here you go." A voice said from behind. He turned around.
"Thank you." He replied with a smile. He brought his wallet out and gave the waitress $4 and told her to keep the change. He put his wallet away, picked up his tea and walked over to the group and prayed that he wasn't intruding on something. He wasn't usually the type to outright go to a group of strangers but he may as well. He'd probably never run into them again if it failed. He was considering going to a different table. This could go badly. They might not like him, they might tell him to go away... He didn't want to make an idiot of himself.
"Good morning everyone." He said, trying to sound as confident as possible, despite being very nervous. He took a sip of his tea and tried to not show his hand shaking. He looked at the pretty girl straight in the eyes, trying to maintain eye contact. That was a good way of showing confidence, right? Two of them walked away. The girl passing out paper and the other one. It wasn't because of him he hoped.

Strengths/Talents: Is pretty good at gaming and has a decent singing voice. Is a little sketchy on the guitar, but tries. Is half decent at Tetris.
Weaknesses/Fears: Lacks physical strength. Fears rejection. Pride can be easily wounded and can easily be upset, though usually won’t show it until later on.
Personality: Aidan is usually a nice person with a good, if a little bizarre sense of humour. He is quite disapproving of certain modern phrases and some kinds of joke and comment that he deems immature. He is quite judgemental.
Aidan also has a temper, and can be easily roused to anger. He doesn’t take jokes directed at his character well, and will respond with a harsh comment, often either sarcastic or rude. If he is really offended by what is said, then he will resort to violence quickly. He is quite sarcastic and will make jokes, often at other’s expense, however he often doesn’t mean it harmfully and can be misunderstood as genuine malice. To counter this, he usually says joking afterwards.
He will also believe himself superior if he sees others acting stupid and will mark them down as idiots in his mind, despite that not necessarily being true. He is very sceptical and doesn’t always believe things at face value. He will demand proof.
When it comes to relationships, he’s even more sceptical, usually believing it’s some kind of trick being played on him for some reason. He’s not afraid to be blunt and rude in rejecting someone.
He will be honest, often brutally. He also prefers to be told the truth. If someone lies about not hating him when they do, he will hold it against them more if he finds out than if they straight up told him.
Despite all that, he does genuinely care for friends and will support them in his ways, often by being as honest as ever and pointing out how bad things aren’t and any advantages to the situation.
