Conrad was focused on the sauce pan as Tessa peered over his shoulder, he could sense it. She then started to chop the parsley and he could hear the chopping of the knife on the wooden chopping board. As Beucette walked in and asked when dinner was done he heard different sound ending the repetitive sound of the knife striking the chopping board. He quickly turned around seeing they had a guest now, two at that. "
It should be done in about another hour" Conrad told Beucette "and seeing there's more than enough, feel free to take some when it's done. That also goes for you." He said turning to Silvia. It didn't matter what either of them had heard him say. It wasn't exactly secret, perhaps maybe the details of his nightmare. He saw how Tessa was pressing a towel against her hand and the question as to what the sound had been was answered, not that he didn't recognise the sound of a blade biting into flesh. The knife had been used to cut carrots, onions and parsley which wouldn't do any harm as far as he was aware, but it never hurt to be cautious. With the stew simmering on the fire they had time to attend to other matters. Conrad turned to Tessa and stepped closer "We should clean that wound, just to be sure." Conrad said, taking note of how he used we instead of you. Then again they were cooking together so he thought nothing of it. He did wonder how Silvia had slipped in unnoticed, they were both caught up in thoughts, the cooking process and their conversation so it was hardly surprising.

    Meanwhile somewhere far far away...

The spirit was busy minding his own business which wasn't all that interesting, mainly just listening to The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg as it had become his song. He was singing along reaching every note perfectly, when he was on the best part of the song he got interrupted by Snow White "
Someone to save me. Something to save me from my hell. Our destina-... ... ... ... oh Hello... I thought I was all alone in here.... If I had known I would get visitors today I would have cleaned up and most certainly not been singing..." The spirit said rather awkwardly. "Who I am? Well, I'm Ronnie Pickering..." Conrad shot a quick glance to Cal to see if he could get away with it, trying to hold his laugh in, getting back into character "Better known as he Spirit of the Mirror... And you're Snow White.... does that mean... oh wow that lousy plan actually worked....Well my condolences Miss White, wait a second is that even how it works... damn bet no one ever thought out how to do this one... I'm sorry, can't say I've run into someone who's died before..."

He continued to stir the mixture. "
Add in the meat, vinegar and seasoning please." Conrad said, the girl did have a point. If they hadn't both made mistakes they hadn't run into each other. He was unsure how he felt about that. If he hadn't made the mistake he could still marry someone... He wouldn't have to deal with the feeling of getting caught between two sides. On the other hand he wouldn't have run into all the people here, some he considered friends and would only reinforce that feeling of loneliness. He would be as inexperienced as when he faced those three thugs and if they ever were to come back he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Not that he could help from where he was right now... He went over it all and decided it was a good thing he was here. "Yeah, we wouldn't be here if that hadn't happened. It's just a bloody shame that someone dear to me had to pay for my screw up..." He said brining the pan to boil again to let it simmer after Tessa had added the ingredients.

    "
I'm sure you didn't let them get away..." She had said, not knowing the truth. He had met these men and he had let them get the better of him. He had let them get away. Not just that he had let them take Abigail. Leaving him with just a scrap of paper and the dreaded task of breaking the news to his father. His father wasn't pleased at all and though he didn't voice it he knew he was going over the usual mage dislike routine. The man atleast didn't go over it in his company and never treated him differently for it, but he knew it was still in him. Emotions played across his face as he went over this. He decided to get back to the stew and took the carrot and once it was done, the onion and put them in the saucepan, frying it gently until the onion started to soften. He grabbed the remaining seasoned flour and stirred it into the mixture he had in the pan and started to cook it until it was golden brown. "I'm sorry to disappoint you..." he said absent-mindedly his reaction to her remarking he wouldn't let others get the better of him, staying focused on the pan as to not meet her gaze. "If you gradually add the beefstock I'll stir it constantly as we bring it to boil." Conrad said returning to the task at hand

He helped Tessa gather all the ingredients required for the stew. "
If you cut the carrots and the onions, that might save us some work later on." Conrad said as he started to cut little cubes out of the stewing steak. and coated them in seasoned flour. "About that nightmare... everyone got killed... they were there again, taunting me... this time around however, I was better prepared... got two of them.. the last one got away... but he returned and that's when Thea, Vance, you and she showed up... I was forced to watch how the last few Guild members were killed without being able to do something... it was then that I woke up..." He had cubed all the meat by now and proceeded with heating the dripping in a large saucepan and use it to brown the meat all over. The smell of it already starting to spread through the room. He kept his eye on the meet and moved a plate closer to put it on when it was all browned over. As it had all browned over he removed it from the pan and put it on the plate, leaving the fat in the pan.

She admited to being nervous, she was being truthful, meaning that she was starting to trust him. He figured that was a good thing, as a new arrival finding someone you could trust never hurt. He could tell her that hiding wouldn't be exactly necesary seeing they were all Guild Mates in the first place, he took note of her fear of messing up, it might be part of a solution to her problem. "
Alright, stay behind me if it makes you feel better." He didn't really mind it, it reminded him a little bit of his younger sister, Ilse, who used to hide behind him when strangers came to visit, eventually she had grown out of that phase. He missed his family, but well this Guild was his new family, it wasn't the same, but atleast it was still better than being all alone. He started walking across the main hall intent to walk to the kitchen to prepare some food, after a few steps he felt a hand grab hold of his jacket, he stopped and looked over his shoulder only to see it was Tessa, who grabbed hold of it, asking if it was okay for her to do so. He nodded, smiled and walked on, making sure to keep his pace in check as to not strain himself. He made his way across the Main Hall ignoring conversations going on or who might be looking at him with Tessa in tow as he walked into the kitchen he started to wonder what he actually felt like having right now, he grabbed a cookbook and started browsing until he found something that struck his fancy a stew with some dumplings. And looked to Tessa holding out the book. "You want some stew with dumplings too? Or do you want something else?"

    Veceslav Furst, Kaer Morhen

The girl didn't feel like stepping out of line again, if he recalled correctly she had been good, real good in her training, but that alone wouldn't get herself in The Crow's book. Even the best of the class could fall to miscalculation and mistakes costing them their heads. Training was one thing, field experience was another. He himself had atleast sixty years to his name, countless contracts even requests directly from the Kings for his services. It was then that Derrick returned asking him how he was doing. Veceslav looked at him, straight in the eyes, knowing what had made him see Olivia as a peasant instead of a full fledged witcher. His face spoke volumes and he didn't need to waste words. This lad really needed to quit using axii on him. "
Derrick, you ploughing idiot, how many times am I going to have to punish you until you learn not to use that blasted sign on me, you know how much I hate you pulling that ****. As punishment for your little prank you are going over the Gauntlet Twenty times and you are going to give me a written explanation of all the reasons why I am getting sick and tired of your ****, Derrick. Furthermore, find Aaron, tell him he doesn't have to do his Gauntlet runs anymore, I do however still want to get the rules across to him." Veceslav said in annoyance as to what the man had done to him, he should probably try and work on his little side project some more and if that turned out to be fruitless, he could always break Derrick's hand if he continued pulling that ****. He then turned to Olivia "I apologise for not recognising you as the full fledged witcher that you are, Derrick thought it funny to cast Axii on me to make me forget." He then walked out "Now if you'll excuse me, I have different matters to attend to..." He left for the laboratory to try and make some progress on his little project.

He stood still as she brushed some dust fromhis lapel and picked off a loose thread from his shoulder. She was smiling again, but there was something not entirely right. It was then she asked him if he could lead the way and there it was she gripped the bottom of her shirt, she was nervous again. "
Well etiquette would demand to let a lady go first, so after you" He said jokingly accompanying it with a little bow. He then walked past her and led the way, he didn't walk very fast as to not strain himself. He walked down the stairs and before entering the main hall he turned to Tessa. "You okay?" he asked with genuine concern in his voice. She had been nervous before, when there were only 4 others in company, he didn't know how many people were in there, but it didn't matter since they had to make their own food anyways.

    "
We still have your room, you may have finished training, but that doesn't mean your room goes to someone else" Veceslav said to Aaron. It was then that Derrick came walking in, finally someone more reasonable. He didn't play nice with most of the new full-fledged witchers because they tended to do stupid **** and get themselves killed, like fighting a Leshen. Derrick had proven himself to do a good job at not getting himself killed, though his pranks with the Axii sign were getting quite old and extremely irritating. It was then the recently arrived mage spoke up "You should probably work on your portals then.." Veceslav told the stranger "You're clearly doing something wrong." He then turned to Olivia who demanded to know what gave him the right to talk like that. "Better question, do you have any idea who you're talking to?" This girl probably thought she was the reincarnation of George of Kagen, now that man deserved respect, but she had been a witcher for what? 5 years? He had seen plenty of witchers bite the dust just after their fifth year.He then turned to Derrick "Yes, particularly that guy." He said pointing at Solomon as he left the library. "After he's out, you're coming back here."

There wasn't any arguing with Tessa about his clothing, she had a point. His coat had remained unscathed and while he could just close it, it would get rather warm quite quickly. So there wasn't a point in even trying to argue with her. However she was wrong in the fact that Vance would try something though "
Mr Dorian and I have an understanding, I doubt he'd be foolish enough to openly attack you. Seeing he potentially stands a lot more to lose than to gain from it. As for Thea, I doubt she'll go beyond the childish remark. I mean she might even think Vance did this to me to put me in my place." He said before she left the room. It was a good thing he had brought several changes of clothing when he first arrived, he took off his coat and belts and put them on his bed. He took off his torn shirt and picked up a long-sleeved navy blue one from his drawer. His pants were completely fine, he just brushed them off a bit and made sure there wasn't any damage on it. He then put his black boots back on and checked himself in the mirror in the bathroom. He looked a lot better now, he decided to leave his coat and his sword in his room and exited. Turning to Tessa, spreading his arms. "Am I presentable now?" He asked as he did a little twirl, being unable to keep a serious look on his face as he did.

He looked at Tessa, clearly seeing her blushing and smiling. He figured why she would be, she seemed so intent on fixing things and in a way this was fixing something. He sat with his back against the wall, holding the pillow against his chest, he inspected the bloodstain on the pillow. She then asked him if he was going to want to sleep some more or if he wanted to go and get something to eat. "
Well to be honest with you, I doubt I'll get any more sleep. And I may or may not have skipped a meal earlier so I could use some food. If I take it easy I think I'll be able to go with you, but before I do I think I should freshen up a bit." He said getting himself out of bed and walking slowly to the adjacent bathroom, he looked at himself in the mirror, the smaller scratches in his faces, just lines of clotted blood. He splashed some water in his face and washed out the blood that was still in his hair. He walked back into the bedroom and looked at Tessa "I'm good to go" He said, only to realise there were several tears in his shirt. He put on his coat and belts fastening his sword to his side to make himself a bit more presentable. He would be unable to hide all the wounds he had received but atleast he was presentable this way.

Conrad listened to her as she said she used to have nightmares to and something about looking for clocks, he kept it in mind. A small smile appearing on his face as the soft thumbs wiped away the last of his tears that he had missed "Thanks, I'll keep it in mind.... I should have known it was a dream... She was there and that's not possible.." He said "And now that I think of it.... there was not a clock to be found in the Guild...." He pushed himself up breathing in sharply, as she had asked him if he needed a hug, it was an odd question that was for sure, but at this moment he needed it more than anything, just to be sure she was still alive. He only nodded, looking her in the eyes as he pushed himself up further, taking the pain in the chest it caused him. As he sat upright he folded his arms around the girl and hugged her resting his head on her shoulder for a moment. He felt reassured that his senses weren't playing tricks on him. He let go of her and said "Thank you... I really needed that..." He said having regained some of his composure.

Didn't know? He thought he could get away with saying he didn't know!? That was even more unacceptable. "
Didn't know? That excuse may have worked in the Oxenfurt Academy but not in Kaer Morhen. Those rules were hammered into you and you just forgot? I find that hard to believe." Veceslav said "These are the firs things you're taught and you tell me you just forgot these important rules? Need I remind you of the possible consequences of breaking these rules?" Then the girl had to speak up "Stay out of this peasant, an ordinary human breaking in here without the help of a mage is just utter bullocks, so stay quiet, I'll deal with you shortly." He turned back to Aaron "Tomorrow morning as the sun rises you are going over the Gauntlet atleast ten times and you'll do it within the time limit. Furthermore you'll give me a written explanation of the possible consequences of breaking these rules of atleast three thousand words and I'll test you on the rules once more to see if you won't forget them again. You ain't leaving till you know them and understand them fully. Which could mean for you that you'll have to stay here for the entirety of winter, due to the mountain pass being snowed under and not traversible." He said then turning his attention back to Olivia "As for you, peasant-" He was cut off by Solomon appearing, his medallion vibrated, telling him it was a mage, then again it was rather clear it was one by him teleporting in here in the first place. "Yeah quite the funny man you are, you're in Kaer Morhen. Sorry this ain't a hotel we don't have any rooms, but since you're passing through that won't be a problem." He said to the mage.

Conrad was panicking not realising he had just sent Tessa falling to the floor. He then felt two soft, warm hands touch his face and made him look in a specific direction. There she was Tessa, head still attached to her body. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. The nightmare had been burned into his mind and he couldn't forget about it even if he wanted to. He had hoped tonight would have been a quiet night, he had known it was bound to happen again soon, but had hoped it wouldn't have been tonight. He looked Tessa in the eyes with a saddened look on his face. "
I'm sorry, Tessa... " He said softly "I'm so sorry....." Not even knowing he had caused her to fall from the bed. "It felt so real.... Thea... Vance... you... the cold gauntlets...." He couldn't make himself finish the sentence as he could feel real tears roll down his cheeks. He felt ashamed of his tears and of feeling the dream had been reality. He didn't know that Tessa had heard him mumble things in his sleep. He wiped his tears away trying to regain his composure.

Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II

Conrad had fallen fast asleep, seemingly peaceful and to an extent that was true. The man had peacefully been cast adrift amongst the peaceful waters of sleep. But soon enough the man felt like he had woken up. He looked around the room was the same, but something was missing or rather someone. Tessa had left the room and the door was ajar, a single beam of light flowing into the room through the crack. This was odd... she had seem so convinced she had to atone, he didn't exclude the possibility of a bathroom break. Then he noticed it, the usual sounds of the Guild had been replaced with complete silence. He got out of his bed and quickly put on his coat and fastened the sheath with it's sword to his side. He had to find out what was going on... leaving the room the hallway was unusually dark, the light entering his room coming from a lone torch opposite of the door. Conrad took the torch and decided to investigate what was going on. The halls were empty and the main hall too was devoid of all life, though everything was left as if everyone had just walked out in the middle of whatever they had been doing... He continued on searching the entire guild hall finding no one. Something was definitely not right here. It was eerily quiet, he could hear his own breathing. Only moments later he was startled by a loud scream, he knew that voice... He ran into the direction of where the sound , sword in one hand, torch in the other, bursting through the outer doors entering the courtyard.

He stopped dead in his tracks. A hooded figure turned to him, he had seen that man before, he knew who it was. At his feet lay the limp form of Aoki, eyes glazed over staring at him. Scattered throughout the courtyard were the bodies of his guild mates, Conrad was searching for those closest to him but couldn't locate them. In his bed, his sleeping form began to toss. The hooded man was accompanied by two others, faces concealed. "You'll pay for this!!" Conrad shouted. The figures just laughed at his threats "Just like we were to pay for taking your sister? You don't stand a chance." Conrad's blood boiled, charging them intent on impaling them on his blade. The three vanished just before his blade struck only to reappear around him. He was struck by lightning spells and collapsed to his knees. He could her the sound of marching men in the distance. Conrad tried to get to his feet as the men circled him, laughing.... "What happened? Lost your spirit? That was even quicker than last time... and now you're even part of a Guild!" The young noble fought to keep control, speaking to himself words of encouragement. He got back to his feet and threw the torch at one of the three men, who caught on fire, the figure started screaming. Only then did it hit Conrad, the screaming.... that voice.. it belonged to his father... The other two struck the young Noble with lightning several more times until the young man was back on his knees struggling to rise to his feet. "Forgive me.... father..." He whispered as his sleeping form mumbled these same words. Conrad angered by being tricked struck at the second figure this time his blade connecting to the man as he shrieked and lost his balance, Conrad quickly followed up with several more strikes from his blade, killing the man. Who fell down on the side, hood thrown back, revealing the face of his younger brother Karl. Conrad fell to his knees next to his dead older brother. The footfalls came closer and the last figure disappeared as a small contingent of heavily armoured soldiers clad in black plated armour entered the courtyard. From the guild hall his sister, Tessa, Vance and Thea came running in, standing in front of the young nobleman. The soldiers surrounded them, the Commander entered the circle and looked at the people in the middle "One chance to surrender" as it became evident they wouldn't lay down their weapons he pointed at Conrad "Seize him!" His guild mates started throwing magic at their opponents only to have it be absorbed by the armour, while his sister helped him to his feet. His legs hurt like hell and he couldn't stand unsupported. The soldiers closed in and made short work of his Guild mates subdueing every single one of them. They grabbed his sister and Conrad fell to the ground only to be grabbed and roughly dragged to his knees. The Commander approached him.

Conrad tried to struggle as the man approached, he had the same voice as the last figure that had escaped. He could feel the cold metal of the gauntlet under his chin as he was forced to look up. His guild mates and sister opposite of him, each forced to their knees, held down by two soldiers each. "For defending this man, you are all sentenced to death." The commander drew his sword and walked over to Thea with one clear swing she was executed. "THEA!!! NO!!!!!!!" Conrad shouted trying to get over there but the soldiers held him down. Conrad started to toss more violently in his bed. He then moved on to Tessa, again with a swift strike he brought judgement. "TESSA!!!" The tears were streaming down his face at this point "I'm sorry, I brought this upon all of you..." He muttered. His sleeping form mumbling the same words. The it was Vance's turn, the other noble looked him straight in the eyes, with a look of anger and disappointment as the blade struck down once more. Lastly came his sister, the one he failed before and failed once more.... "Abigail.... I-I'm... so sorry..." Conrad said, tears streaming down his face, before the blade struck he woke up, for real this time screaming his lungs out.

Conrad smiled she was driven to solve her problems that was a good thing "
Alright, alright, I mean it can be hardly considered reasonable how forgiving I am seeing what happened, I'll just stay quiet about my views on it and let you do what you feel you must do to atone. I mean I think you've got a pretty good idea of how I think about it and there's no point in discussing it further, I'll just let you do what you feel must be done and if necesary help you with it." Conrad said. He rolled onto his back again, once more breathing in sharply. So she was looking for Caliborn he didn't have the pleasure of knowing the bloke, but he had heard about him, he was one of the S-class mages. "While I have learned about my own magics here and improved my craft, I am uncertain whether I would be a good teacher. I can always try, but I think you'd have more luck with Caliborn, while I am not acquainted with him, I have heard some things about him, he's supposed to be a skilled mage. Then again I don't feel comfortable going on rumours and stories." He simply watched as she pulled up her legs and then told him to go get some sleep the way a mother would, it reminded him of his own mother which lead him to his family which in turn lead him to his own reason he was here. His younger sister, the sadness played across his face, but he didn't say a word about it. "Alright, I'll go to sleep." He said "See you in a few hours, if you grow bored there's a book in that drawer, feel free to read it." He closed his eyes in the hopes of drifting off to sleep again. It took him longer to fall asleep than last times, partially because of the fact that there was a girl sitting right next to him and he could feel that due to the disturbance in the matress. His breathing slowed and he drifted off to sleep.

    Veceslav Furst, Kaer Morhen

He had returned to the Keep several days prior in preperation of wintering as was his tradition, the older witchers all did it, he had taught it to the newer generations of witchers but his words hardly ever hit home. He breathed in the cold mountain air, standing on top of the walls looking westwards to the mountain pass. Soon it would be impossible to traverse, with the snowfall blocking the passage the Keep would be isolated once more. He had returned here every year, it never hurt to hone one's skill or refresh one's memory on the characteristics of monsters and it was good to see some of his older collegues. He had ran into a few of them already. Every year the group got smaller one or two who didn't make it back in time. Sometimes they'd turn up the next year but often they never returned at all. He finished his morning walk over the outer walls and then went inside. There weren't many witchers around. He decided to go and brush up some of his potion recipes while he had an exceptional memory he too forgot things at times, important things that could have made a difference for people. He was reminded of the events with that Forktail as he walked on to the library.

Normally the library was a quiet place and he could hear two people talking. One was a voice he had heard before though it was atleast a year ago, the other he didn't recognise. And in his years he had kept track of every resident of the Keep while it wasn't impossible there was a new arrival, he doubted it, the voice sounded, too old to be a new pupil. He decided to investigate and eventually found himself looking at the newly-graduated witcher Aaron and at the outsider. "
What the hell do you think you're doing here" Veceslav demanded "I thought the rules were crystal clear, Aaron, were they not? Leave this room immediatly." Clearly the lad hadn't received the proper training or he had forgotten about the rules. This place kept secrets not supposed to be seen by outsiders. The information about the mutagens for example. Veceslav would have every single witcher and witcher in training gathered in the courtyard later to remind them of the proper rules. particularly all the new graduates that didn't take to the road yet. This was unforgivable and he would see to it that everyone involved in this fiasco got punished.

Conrad listened attentively to what she had said, he had ignored her remark from before about all nobility, knowing full well it hadn't been applicable to him in the first place. She was now sitting on the edge of his bed and he could see only little bits of her face for her hair covered a lot of her face. "
Well, Vance is from the Dorian family and old and powerful family, due to them being around for so long they're still set in their traditions. My family is a new scion in the nobility, we've been at the receiving end of such traditions and knew how it felt, we decided to take a different approach...Your outburst was merely proof of the change that was needed. You haven't offended me with these words, for I know them to be truth though not in all cases and that's the problem with attempting to pass judgement on groups" Conrad stated, he couldn't speak for Thea, he hardly knew her had heard a few things about her family but felt uncomfortable to base it on rumours. He was touched by her worrying about him. "Well, I wasn't upset, atleast not about what was said there, I was feeling really tired, it had been a long day. Lots of things going through my mind, but I won't burden you with that, I knew you were getting a little bit overwhelmed and perhaps it was wrong of me to walk away the way I did, then again the others took care of you right? Anyways I accept your apology." There was something about her last remark that confused him a little, he thought he was reading too much into it and decided to stop that train of thought. "If you'll let me, I'll help take care of you..." He said "You don't have to do this for me, it was an accident, they happen. But I still think it's sweet of you to do this and therefor will not deny you the chance to atone, for in my eyes no redemption is required." Conrad smiled at Tessa "If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up here in the Guild, I mean I know why you're here but how did you hear about Sapphire Eclipse?"

Conrad took in everything she asked him, why did he care? Good question, he hadn't really expected the question. He himself could ask a difficult question like that as well, but he wouldn't ask them before he felt like he had sufficiently answered her question. "
Why ask about you? Well you were present during that...." He searched a moment for the proper word to use "...mess, for the lack of proper term... You were involved in that as well and I just want to make sure everyone involved is doing okay... furthermore I've noticed some things that you do that tell me you aren't doing okay and well, I don't know any other way to get to that subject. And I am aware we've only met today and I only have seen signals and based my assumptions on that, I haven't got you figured out.... I deeply apologise if I overstepped a boundary, I only wanted to make sure you're okay.... We're in the same guild now and to me guildmates look after one another, for no one should have to walk the roads shrouded in darkness alone... It's a long and lonely road, when you know you walk alone.... I can't help but care about those around me, no matter if they do so in return or how long I've known them, but that's my cross to bear... Again from the bottom of my heart, I apologise if I wronged you...." Conrad spoke, the emotions laced through his voice. "Now, before I go back to sleeping, let me ask you something.... When I went to bed you were busy getting acquainted with a few others and discussing training, while I am aware that time doesn't stand still, what is it that brought you to this room?"

As Damian left the room had grown quiet again. Conrad got himself back under the covers of his bed again. The movement sent a shock of pain through his chest and he breathed in sharply, he turned onto his side to look at Tessa as she sat down at the side of his bed. She was busy braiding a few strands of hair, he couldn't see her face, but he knew there was a lot going through her head right now. He could feel the back of his head throb and was reminded of the fact that some of his hair and his pillow were still stained with his own blood, but he didn't care about that right now. He decided to be the one to break the silence. "
I know this may come out of the blue, but I apologise for lying to you, Tessa, Vance was right, I too am nobility, I refrain from mentioning it when introducing myself, because I don't want to get treated differently only because I was born into a noble family and I know that's a lot to ask for especially when there's someone like Vance around...." He said a light tone of sadness laying underneath his normal voice. He just watched for a few more moments as she braided her hair, she had just gone through a few different strong emotions and it had left it's marks. "How are you feeling? Are you okay?" He asked genuinely wondering how she felt, he looked at her, but knew she wasn't looking back at him.
