As I've said, it's perfectly ok to not watch something solely because it's concept doesn't appeal to you, but it isn't particularly a wise way to go about things, because you're pretty much judging a book by its cover.

Whatevs though, people will like what they like, and avoid what they think they won't like.

As much unnecessary drama did occur in this thread, it helped bring out a lot of good points about discussing interests.

You shouldn't force something that you personally enjoy down someone's mouth if they've already stated they don't want to try it. It's going to be a lot tougher to enjoy that thing on your own, simply because the people telling you to try it have already guaranteed a really good experience. I speak from personal experience with this one. You have to see it from the perspective of the person being recommended something too.

On the other hand, you should have a better reason for not wanting to try something than simply the concept not appealing to you. Specifically, there's more to a good anime than simply being "western", "sci-fi", "violent", "slice of life", etc. The concept is only the icing: the plot and characters make up the core, the most important part of a well-written piece of fiction. Cowboy Bebop does this really well. Simply saying "I don't like something because it looks like this" without actual depthful explanation of why you dislike something doesn't improve your thought process: it only makes you lazier and more prone to avoid opinions that don't align with your preexisting thoughts.

    Excellent Adventure is amazing.
Bogus Journey is good, but you'll be a little disappointed after the first movie.

Though I've no plans of getting drunk (heckling incoming), I would totally get on some scary-ass game and record myself screaming like an idiot.

But I do tell that to people iffy about trying things just because of those things being a certain genre :\

I'm sorry, I realize that this is pretty much the same thing that happened to me when my friends got on my ass for not finishing Sword Art. I won't get my jimmies rustled by you not trying it. I do hope that you give it a try sometime without feeling obliged. You might really like it ^^'
