Exactly why? He's not saying not to support movies like Side Effects, or to support only big, flashy action movies. On the contrary, he's already said in the video that it's good to support new, creative ideas, no matter if they're likely to succeed or fail.

I'm really just getting the feeling now that you have some kind of vendetta against Pacific Rim. I get that you didn't enjoy it, as you've frequently made clear, but don't let that spoil the whole notion of simply supporting original films :\

I know the discussion is mostly over, but MovieBob, a critic I often disagree with but am always interested in hearing from, makes a really good point about supporting original pieces of fiction (that I kind of touched on) by using Pacific Rim.

Don't want to be too typical with impressions, but I'm just curious as to your basic thoughts of me ._.

Also, favorite game series evar? (if Kingdom Hearts, what would be 2nd or 3rd?)

You know what's also a bitching cool thing?

If you have a PS+ account, you can just sign in on your friend's PS3, and they can get the free games too. Course, that only works for up to 3 systems I believe, but still.

It really does play almost exactly like the new Mortal Kombat game, but I personally really like that one a lot. It feels maybe a little faster though, you block by pressing the backward direction from where you're facing (a la Street Fighter), there are three attack buttons and one ability button as opposed to four attack buttons, health bars don't reset with rounds (can't remember if you can change that), there aren't any tag team battles (my biggest gripe), and obviously there are no Fatality's.

I'd recommend trying the demo before buying it.

I know that's how it works generally, but...if its not obvious already, I was hoping for this one to really go in the sci-fi genre's favor. As I've said, I want more movies like Pacific Rim. It would give them more breathing room to improve on what flaws the film had, instead of having to be generalized and simple to appeal to broader audiences...guess that's just the hopeful mecha nerd in me.

But movies that are successful or critical acclaim do tend to see a spike in their type of film. As such, a big reason I want Pacific Rim to succeed is because I really do want more big-monster movies stateside, and I especially want more mecha movies stateside. As bleh as Cloverfield was, it was a really cool concept at least. Super 8 was cool too, and I'm in eager anticipation for the next Godzilla film.

I would have agreed except for this part.

It really does not, except to set up the basic premise of Kaijus attacking Earth and Earth having to figure out how to counter-attack. The moment it makes the two-brain Godzilla reference, it's pretty damn obvious that the movie knows it's not really realistic. Not to mention stereotypical Australian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and American characters.

Sure, but only if I get to be a giant robot dinosaur Hitler. Nazi Rex if you will.

I only saw G.I. Joe Retaliation of the ones you listed, but he actually is decent. Think he's much better as a non-dramatic actor honestly, but that might just be me, since his attempts at serious drama haven't been too stellar in my opinion.

I guess you're right. It's just, with Adam Sandler at least, he's a comedian I used to really enjoy, but every film of his that I've seen lately (Zohan, Bedtime Stories, Chuck & Larry, Grown Ups) have been terrible, in my opinion of course. Maybe I'm the only one who hoped that something original (obviously it was inspired by older things) was outsold by a sequel to a film made by a washed up comedian. I used to adore Adam Sandler, but lately can't stand his movies have been just terrible.

Also, I really do need to see 21 Jump Street still. I hate Channing Tatum, but literally every one of my friends who's seen the movie loved it, and they (mostly) know good movies.

Sorry, I thought you were like, pointing out that me making the thread was pointless :\

Fuck me for getting bothered by something I enjoyed being outsold by the sequel to something I didn't right? I ALREADY KNOW STUPID SHIT CAN BE REALLY POPULAR, BUT I HAD SOME HOPE FOR THIS FILM.

I do have a right. I have plenty of rights, this thread included. I'll concede that I did not, in fact, see the movie, but if the first was anything to go off of, I'm not missing much. I respect you, so please, don't go about using that whole "no right" argument. Just pleasantly say "You'll be surprised by how much better the film is." Then maybe I would/will give it a chance.

    Fucking. Seriously.

I don't get it. I really don't. How can so much support be going towards a sequel of a jaded Adam Sandler flick over a genuinely awesome concept, that isn't a sequel, prequel, remake, or adaptation, that features giant robots fighting giant monsters? Hell, Despicable Me 2 wining makes sense: it's a kid's movie, so they're getting a much bigger audience. What am I not understanding?

I didn't say always o.o In fact it's rarely humid here. Only reason there was humidity was, like I said, thunderstorms recently. Usually, it's very dry here, so you have to make sure to hydrate, unless you live up north, where there (gasp) trees and snow and differing seasons.

Sandstorms aren't frequent really. Dust storms more so, and haboobs, though not often.
