$5 in one year...I just don't get how that even matters. They could easily have gone much higher, and they could have forced you to keep doing it the old way with having two different systems. But anyways, I'm pretty sure there will be a free trial. You should be able to get your older Pokemon in that amount of time and then just cancel.
It's only $5 for each year. That translates to $0.42 each month. I'm pretty sure you're not going to be spending enough on that to lose out on anything that great, but whatevs.
