Action games: Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, God of War, Metal Gear Rising, Bayonetta, God Hand

To me, an action game is a game in which the biggest focus is the combat system. Character action games are (I think) pretty much modern forms of beat-em-ups with much more advanced combat systems, following usually one character's story.

And what's wrong with gaming genres if the games are mostly one certain thing? I can get why you wouldn't like it for a game that contains a bit of everything, but Last of Us is clearly an adventure game more than it is survival horror or RPG.

And I'm so glad that they do this. They're focusing on doing one or two things amazingly well, instead of trying to cram in all the popular stuff to try selling. It may result in fewer sales than, say, Call of Duty, but their review scores are looking tons better, from professional reviewers and unprofessional fans alike.

Even though I can't think of any other good action games that have come out recently. And by action I don't mean FPS, Adventure, Survival Horror, etc. I mean

Bayonetta 2 along with Wind Waker HD and Smash Bros 4 is enough to sell me on a Wii U (once it gets cheaper >.>)
