Before she knew it, more than half the night had already passed away. Friends were getting tired or dizzy, and it was time to retire. She saw Alex talking with a friend and then excused herself, wishing him goodnight as well as to Xara and Natalie (thought they seemed to be having a bit of a fight). She was extremely tired, and left a voice mail for her dad saying that she was going to stay at Sophie's house overnight. She briefly saw Lucas the butler, smiling at him a bit and even waved at him before she collected her backpack from the couch and headed upstairs.

She'd figured she would not get very much sleep tonight. This was her first so called sleepover in a long time, and she really didn't sleep much. No. Not since she was blinded, she hardly slept at night unless she took her medications... Which she brought with her, but it seemed pretty useless now. It was early morning, and who wanted to sleep all day? Especially in a house that wasn't her own.

But... when she got upstairs, she actually found herself kind of lost. She walked by one room and almost opened the door before she heard mature noises and froze. "Okaaaaay, not sleeping there." And scooted off awkwardly to another place in the house.

Eventually, after opening doors and checking in, she finally found a room that had an extra bed, but no one looked like they've been in here. She sighed out in relief, closing the doors behind her before she stripped and changed into her P.J.'s.

Soon, she was snuggled under the sheets, keeping her Christmas eyepatch on. She smiled, touching it once more before she closed her good eye, and then started to dream of Candy Canes and Sugar Plums.

Zoey was one to understand these emotions almost perfectly. She shook her head when Dennis regained himself, smiling at him. "Hey, who's been the anti-social one for the last couple of years." She pointed to herself, smiling a bit. "Yeah, I hardly know anyone at this party save Alex, and I just met him yesterday. Xara and Natalie, just met them like fifteen minutes ago. You, just after that." She sighed out, stretching her arms above her head. "You just need to chillax. Nothing to worry about, really."

Yeah, and she was being a total hypocrite saying that kind of stuff.

"Our social skills are probably at a white belt level, if we compare it karate. Just needs to be worked on. The more people we interact with, the better skilled we get."

She figured that their talk was pretty much over. She was just glad she could help out like she did. If she went into one of her anxiety attacks, she would want a familiar face to try to ease her out of it. So far so good though. No anxiety attacks. No blood. Nothing that has brought back the bad memories that made her eye what it was today. Almost, but not quite.

"Aaaannyyywayyy, deviating from that slight episode of mine, we should probably get back to the group as to not keep them waiting up. Also if my panicky memory serves me correctly, then I think that one of those friends of yours was horribly drunk and that doesn't seem like a good state to be left in. Plus the night is still...well it's probably really early morning now but it's still a party damn it. So let's go party! and when we get back I'll even throw in another free lollipop for your troubles."

Zoey couldn't help but to chuckle, shaking her head. "No thank you, I think I had enough sweets for one day. And really, it's no trouble at all." She smiled gently at him, venturing back out into the hallway to head back to the party. "Trust me, I'd want someone to do the same for me if I fell into a state like that." She repeated what she thought of earlier, not even looking at Dennis. But she wanted to verbalize it. What if it was to happen and no one knew what to do? They would think she was a freak, mental... Just like...

She pushed that thought out of her head, looking over her shoulder. "Come on, let's head back." She gestured him to follow before she waltzed back into the living room and headed back to the small group. "Sorry about that party animal peeps. Did we miss anything?"

Well everything certainly became topsy turvy all the sudden. She opened her mouth to say something to Dennis to try to calm him down. Obviously the guy was having some kind of a nervous breakdown. Goodness. But before she was able to say anything, Dennis had fled the room. "Okay...?" She raised an eyebrow watching him go before she heard a slap and abruptly turned her attention to Xara and Natalie. Apparently Xara had just slapped Natalie across the face out of no where, and it was pretty loud too. She let her mouth open, covering it up as she looked back to Alex again, then to Xara. "It's okay, Xara. Really. Natalie is okay. Are you okay, Natalie?" the girl asked, taking the finished grape lollipop out of her mouth, sticking the stick of it in her jean pocket. Zoey was trying so hard not to suddenly revert back to her past. No. Not here, not now. No, no, no-

"h-h-hey, c-c-could I maybe, talk to you, in private, m-m-maybe?"

Zoey blinked her eye, glancing up at Dennis in confusion. "Me? Why-AH!" She was suddenly yanked from the couch, being dragged behind by a nervous Dennis and away from the gathering crowd. "Sorry Alex! Maybe we can talk another time?" she shouted over her shoulder before she was yanked into a secluded room.

"Dennis, what in the world are you-?"

"Zoe-Zoey, you gotta, gotta help me out here. I-I've got no idea what to say, what to do, what to think. I'M SO CONFUSED!"

She blinked a moment, the anger and confusion dropping from her eye. So that's what this was about, huh? She sighed out, placing her hands on his shoulders. "Dude, chill out first. Calm down, take some deep breaths. Inhale, aaaaaaah, and exhale, phewwwwww." Zoey let go of Dennis' shoulders, looking into his eyes. "Okay... Judging by what's been going on, mostly everyone has been drunk and admitting things and saying things that are like, deep down inside of them. Sophie finds you attractive. Yay. But... not trying to burst you bubble, but it's like telling a girl she's cute or something." She shrugged her shoulders, turning her head slightly to the side. "You don't get compliments much, do you."

Yup! Dennis the Menace." She giggled at her own joke, looking over at the guy next to her. Hopefully he didn't mind the little joke.

The butler suddenly came out of nowhere then, telling him the news that Sophie had to bring. Sophie, the head lady of this house, thought Dennis was attractive. "Such a compliment!" Zoey said with a smile hiding a giggle behind her hands. "Somebody likes you~ Somebody likes you~" she said in a singsong voice before she decided to cease. She noticed he was shaking, like he was afraid. Or shocked... Wow. Did he really have that low of confidence. "Um... Dennis? Dude?" She poked at his cheek with her finger, trying to bring him back to reality. "You okay man? You look like a ghost and shaking more than a leaf on a tree in autumn."

"Hey! Alex! Good to see you dude! How are ya? Fun-ass party, ain't it!?"

Oh great, it sounded like her other acquaintances were coming back.

"And Zoey! We're back. Who's your new friend here? Never seem him before. Hi! I'm Natalie

She cringed, for Natalie's voice was very loud. And poor Dennis was already hyperventilating over by her. "Um, Dennis, meet Natalie. Natalie, Dennis." She wondered how much alcohol the girl consumed, but didn't want to ask. This was kind of making her a bit nervous though. She looked up to Alex, giving him somewhat of a pleading look. She didn't want to interact for very long, for who knew what was going to happen. Then again, she was probably just overreacting. Maybe... They weren't as bad as they appeared to be while drunk.

Zoey continued to smile, sitting back and listening to the tale of Dennis' holiday. It sounded like he had more of an enjoyable time than she had. At least her dad made breakfast for her before he left, leaving it for her in the fridge to warm up. She hadn't seen the other presents he promised, but that was okay. She didn't mind.

"Sounds like you and your family had a lot of fun," she commented, chewing on her lollipop for a bit. She was surprised that Dennis pulled out yet ANOTHER lollipop and giggled at that. He must have had a strong endurance against sugar.

"What am I going to do? Um, well I was thinking about going for a swim," she said with a shrug. "How about you?"

Then she caught a familiar face from the corner of her eye and looked. Her eyes brightened up when she saw no other than her crush. "Hey! Alex!" She waved at him, trying to get his attention. "Over here!" She turned to Dennis and smiled sheepishly. "Hope you don't mind someone else coming over... That is if he heard me. It's pretty noisy in here.".

Zoey tilted her head back and laughed, slapping her forehead in reaction to the story that she was just told. "Oh man! That must have been so awkward to see!" She giggled, shaking her head before she looked back over at Dennis.

It was then she noticed that the guy seemed a by nervous, even shaking a little really. She smiled warmly, completely understanding of what he was probably feeling. Zoey was not one to judge harshly the first ten minutes she met someone. Everyone had a story, everyone had troubles. That was one thing she always kept in mind when she met someone. "My Christmas was pretty quiet. Got this eyepatch from my dad. He works as an ambulance driver. Nothing exciting besides this party had happened. How about you? How was your Christmas?" She smiled, plopping the lollipop back in her mouth to taste the grape flavor.

Ah ha! That was his name! Dennis... Not the other D names she was trying to come up with. Sheesh it would have been a really big mess if she tried to call him something else. She was pretty sure she called her teacher the wrong name earlier, but she wasn't sure about that. And Travold, phew. He looked angry when she called him that name. Maybe there was something else he liked to be called by? But she wasn't sure what that was.

"Nah not really. I've heard enough stories from my big bro to turn me off from ever drinking that stuff, it smells awful, and after seeing that...interesting scene at the pool, well let's just say it's just not the greatest thing a person could be drinking."

So much information in one sentence to chew on.

She frowned a bit at the mention of a family member being a reason why he wasn't into the drink stuff. She could understand. Her eye was because of something a family member did a long time ago.

And something happened in the pool area? Huh... interesting. "What happened at the pool?" she asked, looking up at Dennis from where she was sitting. But then she was offered a lollipop. A purple one. Probably grape flavor. So much grape flavor today! But she didn't mind. "Thanks!" She took it from him, opening the wrapper and then let it sit in her mouth. She then patted the seat next to her, offering Dennis a place to sit. "There's room for one more, I think," she said sarcastically with a small smile. Finally, someone to talk to. And it seemed like he wasn't going to ditch her any time soon like the other two did. Oh well. She would make friends with them another day.

    And then there was one.

Zoey finished up the grape soda, sighing out before she crushed it in her hand. This was a pretty lame party to her. She hardly knew anyone, didn't know how to really talk to anyone, and it just seemed like everyone was too drunk anyways to socialize or they were getting there.

What a waste of her time. Maybe she should just leave. Was it worth it to really spend the night? No, not really. She aimed for a little trashcan that was not too far away from her and shot the crushed can to it. "Woosh~" It made it in with a swish. Then she took out her phone, checking the time. Man, it was barely late and she was already thinking of leaving right as she got here. Well, no one would notice that would they. Nope. Beer and everything would erase their minds soon enough.

With that, she scrolled through her contacts list and found her dad, phoning him. To her surprise, she got the answer machine. She frowned, tapping her fingers on her legs while waiting for the tone to beep.

"Hey Dad, it's Zoey. This After Play Party is pretty lame. I want to come home. Call me back as soon as you can. Okay? Bye."

She hung up, sticking the phone back in her pocket. She was tempted to go explore, but then the loud laughter and people being weird kind of threw her off. She just stayed on the couch, pulling her legs up to her chest as she waited as patiently as she could for her dad to pick up the phone. Hopefully he wasn't called into work again. He did work as an ambulance driver, and sometimes he had those bizarre days where his day off ended up being days he would work. It got pretty lonely at the house after a while.

"You're so lame," she muttered under her breath to herself, turning her head and rested it on her knees. She looked towards the pool area, hearing laughter and splashes coming from within. She would go and join them, she even brought her special water wear eye-patch to cover up her bizarre eye... Buuuut... Then again, everyone was getting drunk, and she didn't want to run into any problems. Would it hurt to swim though? Mm, no.

"H-Hey there. I was, um, just wondering if I could, uh, just talk along with you."

Zoey looked up to see a guy standing there in front of her. Was it Danny? Devin? D... She gave up. He seemed like he was talking to more than one person though, and realized he probably thought the other chick was sitting next to her. "Uh,Natalie went in the kitchen, that way." Zoey pointed to where the chick and the other one named Xara disappeared to before looking up at the guy again. "She went to go get a drink with her friend."

She let her legs flop back down, touching the floor with her toes again. She could see that this... Guy -who's-name-started-with-a-D was drinking a soda and eating a lollipop too. So maybe she wasn't the only one who wasn't going to get drunk tonight. Hooray.

"Sup, name's Zoey. And you are...?" she trailed off, giving the guy a chance to speak. She was so tempted to get up and go strip off her clothes to swim. Her swimming suit was underneath everything after all. And no, it wasn't an invisible swimsuit. But she should be grateful that someone was actually giving her the time of day. "Not into the alcohol stuff?" she asked, nodding to the soda and lollipop in his hand.

Zoey drank some more of the grape soda before her attnetion was drawn to someone. They were coming over, sitting by her. Well, not really by her but close to her. She smiled polietly, going to take another drink when the other girl spoke up.

"Oh? My eye-patch?" Zoey dumbly forget she even had one on. She was so use to seeing out of one eye, she forgot that she had a second one. She giggled, putting her fingers up on it, smiling as she felt the sparkles of the snowflakes on it. "Thanks, my dad gave it to me for Christmas." She then noticed the girl texting and kind of hushed up for a moment. When she saw that the girl was done, she swished her grape soda around in the can, listening to it fizz a bit. "So... uh... My name is Zoey... Never been to a party like this before."

Zoey rubbed the back of her head nervously, but still smiled. She was just a little more cautious of greeting people now after the little dose of anger she got from Travold. "What about you? Have you been here before?" Well, that was a good way of starting a conversation. She wasn't the same every single time, she liked to be different. And why not. She hated the same old boring things. Bleh. And maybe she could make a friend? Maybe. She wasn't crossing her fingers on this one, but she couldn't help but to hope.

    Zoey was completely stunned.

Well, not only did the party take place at the most expensive house she had ever seen, but there was a pool, alcohol beverages, and lots and lots of people. Oh yeah, and condoms. They mentioned condoms too.

Zoey groaned a bit at herself, holding her small backpack close to her body. She had a bathing suit, towel, some overnight stuff, and that was pretty much it. She was wearing a T-Shirt that had the logo of Batman on it, her fancy eye-patch her dad gave her, and some black jeans. Nothing fancy, no make-up, just herself and the world around her.

The girl grabbed a grape soda from the fridge, careful not to grab any beer or anything like that. She never had that stuff in her life, let alone lose her virginity. "Oh man," she sighed to herself, opening the soda can with a hiss and took a swig. She then scanned her surroundings. It seemed like everyone was having a great time, talking to one another. It wasn't that crowded, much to Zoey's relief, but it was still quite a handful of people. Everyone already knew each other, and she knew no one at all. At least she recognized faces, but that was about it.

She went over to a couch that was on the edge. Perfect for people watching. She found herself wandering over, plopping down, and pulling her legs up on the couch indian style. She took another sip of her drink, looking around. She couldn't even believe she was here at all. She must have looked very childish with her getup and her soda in hand. Psh. Nothing hardcore or fancy. They were going to call her goody-two shoes, yup yup. But that was okay. She didn't mind. She was here just to absorb the people after all... At least for now.

She thought back to Travold as she sat there, smiling a bit. Though he seemed very intimidating, he seemed like a good guy deep down all that yelling and hostile appearance. He wished her Merry Christmas after all and gave her a candy cane that was only handed out to the big actors and actresses of that show.

Then she thought about Alex... She hadn't seen him since the play. Where was he at? She didn't even know.

It seemed like no one liked to shake hands anymore these days. She saw that Travold seemed kind of angry at her at first, like she overstepped some bounds. Her confidence kind of dissipated and she found herself retreating in herself now. She did something stupid, didn't she. Well, her social skills weren't all topped notch and whatnot. She pulled her hand back, sighing out a bit as she looked to the side with her good eye.

The question was brought up. Acting. Why was she doing it? She never really thought of it before. She was also taken off guard when he addressed her by her last name instead of her first name. She shrugged her shoulders, looking back at the strange guy. "Um... I guess for fun. To meet other people... To help others stand out more. I usually get the extras." She smiled a bit, adjusting her fancy eye-patch out of habit before she spoke again. "Sorry if I was weird. Um... Good luck with the play." She cleared her throat, taking a step back from him as she held the script in her hand. It was then she remembered why she kind of stayed on the side of the walls, never really interacting with anyone. She felt like she was different, really different. Like anything she would do would screw up a relationship, or she would make an enemy out of someone on accident. She felt her eyes stinging, feeling a bit hurt and snuffed out. Her fault for being silly, she guessed.

She heard the announcement from the teacher that the play was going to start and scooted further back towards the stage wall. She let out a small sigh, holding her script tightly to her. Her raggedy eye-patch was in her costume pocket, ready to use. She guessed she should put it on, but maybe she could wait just a bit longer...

Zoey could feel the exciting energy building up all around her. Everyone was nervous, excited, or maybe all together calm. She was one of the ones that were content, not feeling a slight bit nervous at all. Nope, not her. She heard someone shouting off in the distance, but she just rolled her eyes a bit and took a look back at the script that was in her hand. Okay, she came in right after one of the songs. Good. And then after that, she would-

She suddenly stumbled off balance, having someone run into her as if she was a wall or something. "Wa-ah!" She caught herself, blinking at the prepetrator who ran into her. It was no other than the leading male. He looked... rather silly in his costume. She raised an eyebrow at him, and then suddenly-

<< EXCUSE ME, MY DEAR COMRADE. We are getting ready and it is much too busy in here-->> He cleared his throat. << YOU, YOUNG THESPIAN OF THE STARS! THOUGH YOU ARE SIMPLY THE EXTRA ROLE, REMEMBER, REMEMBER WELL THAT EVEN UPON YOUR SHOULDERS THE PLAY RESTS. WE ARE ALL EQUALS IN AN EGALITARIAN PRODUCTION! >>

"Uh..." She just stared at him, kind of dumbfounded. Was he already so much in his role? Sheesh. Give this guy a cookie, bravo. But she didn't say anything as she just blinked up at him. He continued on with his shouting.

<< NERVOUSNESS IS THE ENEMY. THE ENEMY MUST BE DESTROYED. REMEMBER THIS CREED AND TAKE IT WITH YOU IN YOUR PERSONAL REVOLUTION. >>

When the guy was finally finished, she wrinkled her lips in slight contempt. He was now staring at her, and she knew why. The eye-patch kind of stood out after all. But she wasn't going to let that bother her. Nope. Instead, she cleared her own throat and then stood up straight.

"YES FELLOW LEAD ACTOR! I AM BUT AN EXTRA, BUT I SHALL MAKE THEE SHINE BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN! NERVOUSNESS IS NOT MY ENEMY SIR, FOR I EAT IT WITH WHEAT BREAD, MILK, AND BUTTER." She kept a straight face, but a laugh was threatening to come out. Never in her life had she spoke back to someone like that. But this was so much fun. "I WISH FOR THE FATES TO BE IN YOUR FAVOR OH HIGH ONE, SO YOU MAY NOT FORGET YOUR LINES AND SPEAK LIKE KING JULIUS CAESAR OF OLD; POWERFUL, COMMANDING, DRAWING EVERYONE IN WITH THY BEAUTIFUL FLOWING LANGUAGE!" She coughed a bit, hiding a giggle behind her hands as she turned a bit from the guy. But she wasn't done. Oh no. He started it. "I AM ZOEY AMBER KLINE OF SIXTEEN YEARS! THE OH SO GHOST LIKE ONE WITH THE EYE-PATCH. YOU, SIR, ARE PROBABLY NO OTHER THAN TORVALD THE BOLD!" She then dropped her old style, deciding to slide into a modern world now. "NICE TO MEET YA!" she stuck out a hand to him, expecting him to take it.

The grandfather clock in the living room sounded off, signaling it was six in the morning. Zoey stirred from her sleep, smiling when she opened her eyes. "Christmas," she breathed out, flinging the sheets off of her and rubbed her eyes. The house was unusually quiet, but she knew her dad was at work. His work didn't close on Christmas, but that was okay with her.

She stumbled out of bed, fuzzy quilt wrapped around. She shuffled into the living room where their humble Christmas tree stood and smiled as she saw the lights blinking. Something caught her attention, and she raised an eyebrow. There was a single package under the tree, wrapped with a purple ribbon. She picked it up, pulling out a little note that was attached to it and read it.

Merry Christmas, my little angel. I'm sorry I'm not here to celebrate it with you this morning, but I'll be there for your play. I promise. More presents are to come later, but I wanted you to have this first.

    Love,
    Silly Dad

Zoey smiled, setting the note to the side before she opened the box. Inside was a beautiful dark blue eye-patch with a snowflake in the center of it. Around it was glittering stars. It was so lovely... And when she touched it, she could feel it was made of satin. "Oh wow... thanks Dad. Merry Christmas to you." She slipped it over her head and then ran to the bathroom to look in the mirror. She smiled as tears came to her eye. This would be her fancy lucky patch. Today was the best day to wear it too.
    `•.¸¸.•´´¯`••.¸¸.•´´¯`•´`•.¸¸.•´´¯`••.¸¸.•´´¯`•´`•.¸¸.•´´¯`••.¸¸.•´´¯`•´`•.¸¸.•´´¯`••.¸¸.•´´¯`•´

Soon, Zoey was backstage with the other actors, actresses, and crew. She was all dressed up, ready to go. She smiled as she adjusted her little cap on her head, the thing that was hiding her long hair so she looked like a boy. She then saw her teacher, smiling at him. He had an
eye-patch too, which was super cool. She hadn't really talked to him, but now would be a good chance to.

She came up to him, smiling as she placed her hands behind her back. "Hi Mr. Henon!" She pulled out her handmade card that read MERRY CHRISTMAS! in big colorful letters, with the teacher drawn in chibi form, looking super serious as he drank tea while sitting in a fancy chair with a Santa hat on inside of it. She wrote a quick note, thanking him for being her teacher, and signed her name at the bottom of the it. "Merry Christmas," she said with a grin, looking up at him with her eye. The other one was covered with her fancy patch. She would put the ragged one on later, because her part didn't come up until much later after all.

Zoey then spun away, walking to her cue spot in the back of the stage. Her lines were memorized, and she had her cues down to a science. She could do this. She wasn't going to be forgetful this time.

Her attention was drawn to a girl, one of the actresses in the show. She was very pretty. Her name was Seraphina? If she remembered correctly. She waved a bit, smiling at the girl. "Hey Sera. You look great." She grinned, giving her a thumbs up. "Good luck today!" And then, in the back of her mind, she wondered if she was going to see Alex again... He was in the play after all. If not, she would try to find him at the party.
