This was the last place Zoey wanted to be at right now.

She was fiddling with her script, not really talking to much of anyone. It was too quiet at rehearsal, very quiet. There were a lot of faces that were missing. One of them...

She pushed the thought out of her mind as she hugged herself, looking at everyone else around her. The girl sighed out heavily before she looked up when someone else came in.

It was Maria, one of the leads in the play. But something seemed off about her. One, her outfit was very concealing, not showing very much of Maria, two she noticed the limp, and three, she didn't bother to talk to anyone. What had happened to her? Zoey didn't want to butt in though. It seemed like everyone had a crappy after Christmas Day. But she noticed it was all from this play group or associate to people they knew outside the play. Why them? What was going on exactly? Was Fate trying to be twisted or something? It seemed like it to her.

She waved a little to Maria before she turned around, nibbling on her bottom lip as she slouched in her seat. She just wanted to go home and play video games, maybe go see Dennis and her teacher, then maybe make some cheesecake and take a nap. Or maybe she might go get some Ben & Jerry's ice cream and share it with the people she knew who were in the hospital. She really didn't know what she was going to do. She just wanted to keep her mind off of Alex. She wanted to stop herself from thinking about him often, thinking that he was going to walk through those doors and everything was going to be alright. But that wasn't the case. That wasn't going to happen.

Zoey blinked at the boy, stunned that he fell asleep so suddenly. She then smiled warmly, deciding it was time to go. Before she left Dennis alone though, she scrawled her phone number on the bottom of the picture and wrote the note "Text/Call me if you need anything". She was hesitant to leave one of her friends behind, but she was sure he was in good hands. Plus, wouldn't his family come see him soon enough? She sighed out, shrugging her backpack on her shoulders after she got out of the hospital bed. "Good night, Dennis..."

About fifteen minutes had gone by for Zoey, and she climbed out of her dad's truck, sluggishly making her way to the house as she pulled her jacket tightly around her. Her heart was heavy now she didn't have to put an act on for everyone that she was fine. A frown was on her face. She couldn't get Alex out of her mind. She remembered seeing him the first time, thinking of the day when she would be brave enough to admit she would like him. But then rumors had it he liked someone else. And then that someone else went to jail for killing someone at one of the school's summer camps about two years ago. But she didn't know if she would still have the chance with Alex.

Now he was dead, and she was left here with a heavy heart.

She gave her dad a hug goodnight and then took her medications to help her with her PTSD and other things. Once she was tucked away in bed, she buried her head in her pillow, her thoughts drifting to Alex again. Before she could stop herself, she gripped the sheets and began to sob quietly, making no noises for her dad to hear. She took her eyepatch off and put it away in the nightstand drawer before she began to cry some more while pulling the quilts over her head.

"Alex," she whispered, taking in a shaky breath. "I wish I would have told you... I wish I would have told you..." She cried some more and then in a few moments, she stopped and drifted off into a restless night's sleep.

Armaris stepped off the bus and into the sunlight, smiling as she took in a big breath of air. She then sighed out, shielding her eyes from the sun as she looked towards the tower that was just completed. "Oh wow! It's so tall!" She tilted her head back, trying to get a bigger look at it until she stumbled backwards and almost ran into a student. "Oops! Sorry, sorry, sorry," she said, bowing to the older student before she skipped off to line up with the rest of her class. She barely paid attention to role-call but sounded off her name when it was heard before she tucked her hands behind her back and rocked on her heels. She wanted to get going. She couldn't believe that she was a Freshman this year in high school, and she was so lucky to go on this field trip! Some of her friends were going to be so jealous of her.

"Alright kids!" the head principal announced. "Time to pair up!" Some names were read off and then "Armaris Jenkins and Seth Rao, pair up!"

The little Freshman stiffened, realizing who she was paired off with. A senior from her high school... And she a freshman. She felt a couple of stares on her as she quietly looked to the side, looking to where all the seniors were standing. She spotted her companion and tightened the grip on her backpack, walking over slowly to him.

Seth Rao... she had seen him a couple of times at school. Never really got the chance to talk to him though. She put a smile on her face as she approached the guy, saluting him before bowing politely to her upper classman. "Hiya, hello," she greeted with a cheerful voice before she glanced up at him. "Guess we're partners?"

Zoey laughed when Dennis chuckled, seeing that he was slowly coming out of his shock. "I was trying to make him look like a pirate, but it looks like he took a trip to Mexico. Maybe I should have given him a bowl of nachos or something to munch on." She then drew the initials Z.A.K. at the bottom of her drawing in fancy cursive before she ripped her drawing out of the book and handed it to the boy next to her. "Here, you can keep him or throw it away if you want to."

She set the pencil back on her sketch book and wrapped an arm around him again, smiling at him. She wasn't going to ask him how he was feeling now, because she could somewhat tell. Plus, that might trigger him to go back into shock. "Do you want me to draw anything else for you?" she asked, ready to jump into action. She loved drawing for friends, she always had. It was like a second hobby to her in a way and she enjoyed every minute of it. People seemed to enjoy it as well. And she loved to put a smile on their face.

Finally she felt like she was getting somewhere with Dennis.

She grinned at him, giggling when he blurted out for her to draw a parrot. "Let me guess, the eyepatch inspired you?" She patted his shoulder once before she leaned away from him to grab her backpack by the bedside. "That's okay!" She pulled it on her lap before zipping it open, shifting through the contents of it. "Parrots are really fun to draw. I got to warn you though, my drawings can get... kind of silly." She finally found her small sketchbook with a pencil attached to it and pushed the backpack out of the way before she linked an arm through Dennis' so he still had the sense that someone was still there with him and then she opened up to a blank page.

"Hm..." Zoey then began to sketch, making her lines very light. She then thought of a random song, something that her and her dad loved to sing to each other sometime. Before she knew it, she was saying the words softly

"The devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cos he was way behind and he was willin' to make a deal.
When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot."

She paused a moment to erase a little mistake. There was a shape like a little parrot head starting to form, and then gradually a body. She resumed her song.

"And the devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Boy let me tell you what:
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the devil his due:
"I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you."
The boy said: "My name's Johnny and it might be a sin,
"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Another pause and she looked back at her sketch, then to Dennis. He didn't seem to mind, so she decided to sing the last bit of the first song to get it to a stopping point at least as she continued to quickly sketch out what Dennis ordered.

"Johnny you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.
'Cos Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold.
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul."

And then she sighed out, finishing up her little sketch. "There we are." She held it out for Dennis to see, smiling at him. "What do you think of him? Looks kind of dumb, huh?"

Another frown crossed Zoey's face. Dennis was sure out of it. So shocked, so scared. He didn't even want to leave the hospital. She wondered to herself what caused the fear in his head. It had to start from somewhere, maybe long ago. Maybe not so far away at all.

She waved a hand in front of Dennis' eyes, seeing that he was completely sucked in his own panic. He couldn't be left alone for very long. She wondered where his family was, if he had any. Wouldn't they be here with him? "Um... Dennis? Do you have a favorite song? I mean, I suck at singing, but I can sing for you if it'll make you feel better, hm?" She put her free hand over his hand, holding it still. She wanted to comfort her friend in some way or another. It seemed like Julius knew exactly what to do. Zoey... she was kind of at a loss what to do. Plus, what if she gave off the wrong idea.

What the cupcakes. She shouldn't really care about that.

She got up from the chair, finding a spot next to Dennis in the hospital bed. She made sure she didn't get tangled in any wires or IVs . She sat on it, letting her shoulder touch his before she wrapped an arm around him and still held his hand. Everyone who looked in would probably think she was his girlfriend or something, but she was just trying to help out a friend in need. She looked at him with her eye, watching him carefully. "So... how about a song? Or something else even. Want me to draw for you?"

Zoey's eyes saddened when she saw the state that her friend was in. "Oh Dennis... I'm so sorry..." He looked so scared. It was like looking in a mirror at herself. Maybe this is what she looked like back at the house. If Mr. Henon wasn't in the same hospital room as her, she'd probably still be checked in the hospital. Maybe be sent to the adolescent mental health ward to stay over a night or two. She had been in a place like that before, she remembered. But it wasn't her that got into that state the doctors said to her dad. It was external factors that drove her there. And now? She had fears she had to battle, things she had to face every day.

She squeezed Dennis' hand tighter before she left his side and took around the room. She found a spare clean blanket and came back over to the suffering guy, wrapping him securely around the shoulders with it. "There, that's probably better, hm?"

She smiled a little at him before sitting by his side again, taking his hand once more. She couldn't say it was okay, because it wasn't. Dennis felt the shock of the deaths of their acquaintances and friends tenfold than everyone else she guessed. It must be a larger burden on his shoulders. "I'm okay Dennis... Not poisoned. I don't think any of the rest of us were. I think you're going to be okay. The rest of us will be okay." She gave another reassuring squeeze and patted him on the shoulder, then looked around the room. "Ready to get out of here soon? It's not very fun to be here..."

Despite feeling emotionally drained, Zoey found herself smiling halfheartedly at the girl before her. She kind of reminded her of herself when she was younger; so nervous and fearful. She felt bad.

"No, it's okay. I don't mind." She folded her hands in her lap, keeping the smile on her face. She still felt so much pain, so much sadness, but she had to keep it down. At least for this girl's sake. "And that's so cool! To be so musically inclined at a young age like that I mean. And I'm just getting into the swing of things at school myself. I was kind of a recluse for a while-"

    "Zoey..."

Zoey gasped and looked to the door, seeing a familiar figure at the door. Without out her permission, her eyes began to tear up again. "Daddy...?" she whispered, not really believing what she was seeing. She hadn't seen her dad since after the play. She felt bad she left him alone all Christmas day, and then this happened. The man looked tired, his eyes blood shot, his black hair standing up on end, and he was still in his work uniform. Standing beside him was a female doctor, smiling warmly at Zoey from where she stood.

"Dad?" Zoey called again. Before she knew it, the man strode over and hugged his daughter tightly. Now she was completely relaxed and forgot she was keeping a brave face and began crying softly once more, grabbing at his arms.

He sat down on the bed next to her, gently taking his daughter in his arms. Leium Kline was just so relieved his daughter was alright, he didn't know what to say as she cried. He began to rock her gently. "Shhh, Daddy is here... Daddy's got you...." He looked up at the visitor that was in the room as his daughter buried her head in his chest, and just smiled at the girl. He could see that she played the violin, and was probably playing for Zoey. He winked at her, letting her know it was okay to be in the room.

"Well, I don't see any reason to keep you here any longer Miss Kline," the female doctor began, looking over her clipboard of the results of the test. "You're just fine." She smiled at Zoey, who took a peek at the doctor from her dad's arms. "You can go home now..."

Zoey just sighed out in relief, rubbing the tears away from her eyes. Soon, she was unhooked from the IV and heart monitor, and found herself being helped up by her dad. She looked over at the girl, smiling through her sadness. "It's nice to meet you, I hope to see you at school." She then looked at Mr. Henon, her eyes warm and showing great gratitude. "Thank you Mr. Henon, I'll come visit you soon." And with that, she left the hospital room with her belongings clutched to her chest, so happy she was leaving this awful place. The doctor and her dad showed her to a restroom where she could change out of her hospital gown, and soon was changed into her regular clothes. Then she thought of someone.

"W-wait. Is Dennis here?" she asked, looking at the doctor. She almost asked for Alex, but she was afraid of the answer she was going to get. He was dead. He wouldn't get any visitors till his funeral. She took in a shuddering breath, hugging herself as the grief threatened to overtake her once more, but she wouldn't allow it.

"Dennis? Hmmm." She flipped through her paperwork. They only had one Dennis here, thank goodness. "Yup, he's still here. Would you like to see him Miss Kline?"

Zoey nodded her head. "Yes please."

"Right this way..." The doctor led the way through the hallways, Mr. Kline not minding that they were taking a detour before home. Anything to put his daughter at ease right now.

Soon, Zoey was shown to Dennis' room and was shown in. "Dennis?" Zoey called softly, stepping in the room.

Her dad took a seat outside of the room, waiting patiently. He was going to take a quick nap if he could.

Zoey came to Dennis' side, bringing up a chair to sit by him. He looked so awful, so shocked and so pale. She would probably have been in the same state if she wasn't in the same room as Mr. Henon. She frowned, reaching out and touched his hand hesitantly. "Hey Dennis..." She could hardly believe this was the same guy that was so nice to her last night, who gave her a lollipop and whatnot to comfort her. The guy that got so scared of Sophie giving him a compliment. She had to smile at that memory, and then she slowly she understood that he indeed he would be in shock right now.

Zoey applauded also when the performance was done, for she very much enjoyed it. It seemed like her teacher thought it was pretty cool too. She smiled at the girl, watching as her teacher made his way back over to his bed, forever grateful he made an effort to comfort her in her time of sorrow. She then looked to to the new girl, smiling at her. "No, no, thank you. Sorry to put you on the spot like that... It's been a bad morning." She sighed out, relaxing against her bed once more. She wasn't really sick, so what was she doing here still? Nonetheless, she could talk to this girl, maybe get to know someone.

"My name is Zoey... Do you go to the Fortissimo Academy?" she asked, keeping a smile on her face. Someday, someday she'll tell someone her secret about her bad eye. Someday she will be brave enough to show it to someone else. She was sure Julius saw it, and he wasn't afraid. He had an eyepatch too after all. "Oh, and that's Mr. Henon," she said, briefly introducing him. She saw him on the phone and suddenly hunched her shoulders, mouthing a sorry to him. "Anyways, how long have you been playing for?"

Zoey watched as the other girl stumbled in, keeping close to Julius. Julius was her only companion she knew right now and was scared, very scared of everything that was happening around her. One, Alex died in front of her with others, two, she hadn't heard from her father yet, and three she didn't know where Dennis was. The guy that gave her the lollipop. Or Travold for that matter. Even though he was grumpy and loud like a billy goat, she still found herself missing the loud voice. Julius was the only familiar face to her

"It's okay," Zoey said, keeping her eye on the girl. She then spotted something in the girl's hand, seeing it was an instrument case of some sort. She recognized it right away, her eye widening in awe. "Do you play?" she asked, pointing to the case with her finger. "Can you play? I mean... please? I really love the violin." Even though Zoey's mind was all jumbled and she felt broken inside, she could sense the girl was embarrassed for peeking in. Zoey was trying her best to make the girl feel better. She probably didn't mean any harm anyways. The last thing Zoey wanted was to become bitter and push everyone away, just almost like after That One Scary Moment. Now she was clinging onto people, trying to make sure to not be alone again. No. She didn't want to be alone right now. Not at all. Zoey's eye looked to the stranger, almost pleading with her to stay a moment, even though she didn't know her at all.

Zoey sat there in her teacher's arms, listening to every word he was saying to her and trying to soak it all in. He would miss her? Alex would miss her too? Was it possible? She sniffed, leaning on her teacher's chest heavily as he continued to talk to her, slowly soothing her mind back to ease. She still felt the pain of losing Alex so suddenly, and seeing the deaths happen before her eyes, but it felt a lot softer with Mr. Henon by her side, hugging her like her dad would on nights she had a bad dream.

She gasped when she felt the fingers underneath her eyes, wiping the tears away. Then she realized that her teacher had her eyepatch, and her eye was exposed. She looked up at her teacher, a bit scared at first. The bad eye, the blinded eye, it had scars on the lid of it. Like someone had scratched it, but it was ragged an uneven. Her eye was almost silver, almost. A much lighter color then her good eye. It too had scars that remained on it, like something was slammed into her eye. It was red from the tears, but other than that it healed the best it could. She felt the eyepatch go back over and sniffed, blinking back any more tears that were about to come. Her teacher seemed to not be phased by her bad eye at all...

Suddenly, she hugged him out of the blue. Then she remembered the bandages on him and hugged him more gently. She buried her head in his chest, breathing in deeply. "Thank you... thank you so much.... Thank you for caring about me... Thank you..."

She thought a little bit longer as she hugged him like this. Could she tell a secret to him? Would he keep it?

"My mom... she wishes I was..."

Zoey trailed off when she felt a presence of someone and opened her eye, looking over to the door. There was a girl with a hoodie on, just standing there looking on. She blinked in confusion, before she waved a little at the strange girl. "Hi there," Zoey said softly, not sure what else to say to the stranger. She must've had attracted some people with her sobbing. How embarrassing...

Zoey was still crying, holding her face in her hands. This was too painful, just too painful. One of the nicest guys she laid her eyes on was dead, and the rest were dead too. She remembered the grueling practices she had with them, and that even though she never really talked to anyone till the day of dress rehearsals, she looked up to them. Each and every one of them. They all brought in something to make it happen, and they seemed like pretty good people. She even told Seraphina how beautiful she looked in her costume, but she didn't hear her. And now, some of the people she looked up to were dead.

She didn't even hear her teacher get up and come over to her. She didn't notice that he was right by her side until he sat on her bed and then hugged her tightly, bringing her into his arm. Her eyes widened for a moment, surprised by this sudden gesture of comfort. As soon as he stroked her hair though, she buried her head in his chest, her shoulders shaking as she whimpered softly.

"Don't say stuff like that...don't say you should die..."

'YOU DON'T EVEN DESERVE TO LIVE !' shouted another voice from her past in her head.

"None of you deserve to die...if you died then just think of all the people that would grieve for you and feel the exact pain you are feeling right now"

'Stop crying, you *****... You'll never mount up to anything. Harsh, but those are the facts of life, dear.'

"So now I want you to cry...just let it all out...now is the time for tears..."

And she did not hold back. She let the tears come, wetting her teacher's own hospital gown. She curled up more towards him, finding comfort in the man she found as her idol over the last months she had been at the Academy. She took in shaky breaths and let them out with a painful sigh. She was so hurt, so wounded by the whole ordeal. She wished her dad was here, but her teacher was enough right now.

"T-Teacher?" she began, bringing up her hand to her eyepatch and let it rest on top of her bad eye. "N-no one would miss me if I died." Her fingers wrapped around her eyepatch, clutching it tightly. "No one... no one knows me. The only one who would grieve for me would be my dad... The others... They have... They have so many people who care about them. If I died this morning, in their place..." She paused, taking in a painful breath.

'...but those are the facts of life, dear.'

"If I died in their place, no one would miss me!" she blurted out. She then pulled off her eyepatch, drenched in her tears. She kept her bad eye shut as she continued to cry, hiding her face in her teacher's chest. "No one would miss me... because they don't know me... And everyone would be happier if it was me instead of them..." She let out a breath of air, taking in a shuttering breath as she was processing this in her head. She knew her dad would be devastated if anything happened to her, but she wasn't counting him the equation.

"That a girl. Learn your place in this world. You are nothing, never will be anything."

Zoey covered her ears, her Christmas eyepatch with the snowflakes on them that her dad gave her was tightly clutched in one hand. She was trying to block out the voices in her past, but it was to no avail. They were always there, always taunting her... Always there to remind her.

"You'll just have to learn to be lonely like me. Heh, your dad could care less and give a damn about me. I bet he's so sick of the both of us... You brought this on us though."

That it was always her fault.

The paramedics had done everything they could to calm down the frightened girl. She had a little medical wrist necklace hidden under her shirt, and they were able to get key information from her without her having to utter a word.

As soon as she got to the hospital, they took her blood and anything else they needed for tests. Now all they had to do was wait. She was changed into a hospital gown, was given another blanket to snuggle up in, but they took her eyepatch away. She panicked and screamed at first, covering her eye up, but then a nurse rushed to her side and eased her to calm down. She was going to be okay, they just needed it off for a little bit. Zoey cried softly, letting her head rest against the pillow as they hooked her up to an IV. After what it seemed like forever, they gave it back to her and slipped it over where it needed to be. She was then wheeled out of the examination room and into one of the patient rooms in ER. She closed her eye, whipping the tears from it with the hospital blanket. She was then stopped, and soon she was left alone... At least she thought so.

"Z-Zoey?! Oi Zoey! what the hell are you doing here?!"

She jumped when she heard the voice, opening her eye and looked to her left. Her eye widened, recognizing the face with the voice now. "M-Mr. Henon?" she stammered, confused with the sudden appearance of her teacher. "What... what are you doing here?" She sat up gradually in bed, hugging the sheets close to her as she just stared at her teacher for a moment. He seemed to be bandaged up, like he got caught in a fight or something. Was this why he wasn't at the party with everyone else? He was here the whole time? He had his eye covered up as if he was hiding it from here. But then again, she noticed that the eyepatch was gone. It comforted her to see a familiar face, someone she looked up to, but at the same time disturbed her.

Suddenly the images of this morning flashed through her mind and she winced at the memory of it all She hugged herself tighter, nearly crying all over again. She swallowed hard as her body began to shake, but she felt like she had to tell someone.

"We were all having breakfast at S-Sophie's house.... E-Everything was normal, everything..." She let out a breath of air before she continued. "T-Then something w-went wrong. S-something bad. A-Alex, R-Richie, and a-another boy passed out." Tears were streaming down her face, her good eye wide open as she told the horrifying tale. "A girl, S-Seraphina... she screamed out. Then s-she, she stabbed herself." Zoey let out a quiet sob, holding her head with her hands.

"It was so terrifying! This only suppose to happen in a horror film!" she yelled, not even realizing her voice was raised. "S-Someone said we were poisoned... But Alex... Not Alex." The last words came out in a whisper. She would never be able to tell him she liked him. She would never see his smiling face again. An ache swelled inside her chest and then constricted her throat. She nearly doubled over, covering her face with her hands. Her shoulders began to shake, this pain was just too real. She began crying, not caring who was in the room. "H-He can't be dead," she sniffed, taking in shaky breaths. "No... Why... Why... WHY! WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE HIM?! WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THEM?! Why not... why not me?!" The tears fell on the hospital sheets like a sad rain, and she couldn't help it. Her heart was bleeding new wounds. This was going to scar her for life as well as everyone else that lived through this ordeal. And to think that bad luck would stop happening to her after... After That One Scary Moment happened. No, she couldn't be more wrong. "Why not me..."
