It's sad but I didn't think The Spirit was that bad. It had a few funny moments in it.
You can use lock on and remove it. Watch Chernabog's movements. You can cast aeroga on yourself if you want to, which will offer you some extra protection. I didn't need it but I know some people lose too much HP. Use lock on to target the back of his head. Beat the tar out of him. When he rears back he's likely to launch his fire attack. When he's going to cause the lava to erupt from the mountain, he crouches down on it. To avoid the fire breath attack he does, just fly behind his head while using the lock on function. You can then attack him from the side his fire breathing stuff starts because he brings his head back and forth. On the way back, however, it's best to move off and fly away from the breath. When he is crouching and will detonate the mountain, move away from him, flying a great distance to avoid the attack. Remember to use aeroga to avoid the orbs he makes as he's getting weaker because that will bounce the orbs off it, or just fly around them if you can. In the end, just keep beating the tar out of his head from the side and behind, fly around, use aeroga near the end, and get away when he does the crouch deal.
