Pretty much, this, yeah. My roommate asked me a question during it and realized I wasn't paying attention. Told me it's pretty bad if even I'm not into it. On a related note, have you read Gotham Academy's first issue?

I'm bored and nothing really screams "BUY ME" from it so I'm trusting you guys.
I have Pokemon Y, Link Between Worlds, Dream Drop Distance, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Bravely Default, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Small library; wanting to expand. Not wanting to waste money.

I grew up with no white friends. Seriously, except for half (not most, half) of the kids at school, everyone in my life was minority, generally black. "*****" was a reoccurring word in my vocabulary. I never thought anything of it until middle school when, coincidentally, one of my longest friends warned me that some people wouldn't realize where I grew up or that I wasn't white (HISPANIC IS A RACE, GODDAMN IT...but I don't look Hispanic evidently). Although, I never really stopped saying it. Even to this day, I say it to black people, white people, my cats, and my girlfriend and honestly, she hates it more than they do. Granted, it's a word that I was always thought "isn't okay for white people to say;" I didn't identify as "white," and no one ever raised an objection to me saying it. I don't use it to everyone; I consider it part of my casual language so if I won't cuss around someone, then I wouldn't say it (though I restrain myself more from swearing than I do saying *****)- such as with my customers. And honestly, the only thing anyone has said to me (aside from girlfriend, but she was raised racist anyway) is that they "love that say it" -one of the new hires at work and he's black.

I'm not using where I grew up as a justification for me saying it, but it's the way it happens. The line isn't as definite sothat black people can say it, but may choose not to and white people can't say it at all. Obviously, this isn't included quotes or songs (honestly, don't censor that. You quote it, then say it), but intentionally saying it about someone or to someone else. I mean, yeah, used with a racist definition is bad; but that's not how I generally hear using it. I mean, yeah, you can just say the "n-word," but
    .

    tl;r:
-I'm seeing a lot of "I can't say for sure because I'm not black and only black people should decide, but here's what I say is socially acceptable."
-Words change and some really horrible words lose their negative connotations? Is that bad? Maybe "*****" becoming a word that has nothing to do race in the future is the word being re-appropriated by the black community and this is a step in that direction?...or we can just keep the word set to one race.
    -I think "c*nt" is a beautiful word.
-It's perfectly fine (and, in my opinion, socially preferable) to censor yourself to avoid someone being offended if you know that they will be offended by what you would have said, if you respect them. I don't think we should have to preemptively censor ourselves before we know someone is offended by it because some things aren't offensive unless someone is actually offended.

I don't know if this makes sense. I'm a little high right now.

Seeing people's signatures and avatars on here, being impressed and intrigued by the anime/video game, and then not knowing what anime/video game (or other source it's from).
NOT ASKING BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW INTERESTING THE SOURCE IS, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO INVEST IN IT.

This RP is based off of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. For the most part, it will follow the show's premise from a different point of view, starting at the beginning of Season 1. As such, everything from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be considered canon. However, elements from other Marvel films outside of the MCU continuity that are prominent in comic books (X-Men/mutants, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, etc.) will have a role to play. The RP will follow a loose continuity from the actual MCU films to allow us creative freedom and will reconcile the Avengers with Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other non-MCU properties allowing for a greater Marvel RP. The feel of the RP will be strictly tied to the MCU's Avengers films, though.

    Rules
    1. No powerplaying or godmodding. KHV's rules are law.
    2. No prior knowledge of actual comic books are needed, but some knowledge of the MCU movies will help.
    3. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show is the backdrop of the RP so you should at least be familiar with the series.
    4. Your character(s) can be OC or an MCU version of an existing comic book character, provided that they haven't appeared in the films yet.
    5. Actual big-name superheroes such as Spider-Man cannot be altered for the RP.
    6. Actual superheroes cannot be playable just yet; as in, your character cannot be a vigilante or have an alias.
    7. Actual heroes/villains from the MCU aren't allowed just yet.
    8. The RP will start off almost identical to the show with similar plot-points. The events will take place from the point of view of a similar team to Coulson's, but the teams will not cross paths right away. As such, until told, no one should know about the events of the show or Coulson being alive.
    9. Mutants (and anything X-Men related), as opposed to the movies, aren't extremely well-known, but have been revealed to exist in the 1970s. Public appearances, however, are extremely rare due to S.H.I.E.L.D. and other organizations being swift.
    10. Characters aren't allowed to have powers or be anything aside from human. However, you can be a non-X-Men mutant, but keep it a secret for now! (privately tell me if that's your plan).
    11. Characters don't have to be S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but must be related to S.H.I.E.L.D. in some way in order to be part of the team. No characters over Level 6 security clearance (at the beginning).
    12. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents must have a specialty between Operations (specialists; one-man teams that excel in combat and the field), Sci-Tech (sciences such as biology or engineering), or Communications (data management). They can be actual agents or recruited straight from the respective academy.
    13. If you want your character(s) to Hail *****, keep it a secret for now (even from me). Like the actual series, the reveal should be a complete surprise.
    14. If you want a "bad guy of the week," let me know! If you want a recurring bad guy, show your interest for now; Recurring bad guys won't be introduced until after the first mission.
    15. If it's not obvious, no actual characters from the show or films though they can be referenced as of yet. If you would like to portray a character for a guest appearance, there will be room for that later! For now, everyone is an OC or an MCU-styled version of an existing comic book character that has yet to make an appearance in the films/show.

    • Real Name: Agent Eric O'Grady
      Age/Appearance: 45
      Specialty/Level: Operations/Communications, Level 8
Personality/Bio: O'Grady is a low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that was accepted into the Academy of Operations young. However, his selfish attitude led to him almost failing out and he ended up graduating from from the Communications Academy instead. Though there isn't much special about him, he worked his way up to Clearance Level 8 (though that says more about his time in S.H.I.E.L.D. than his actual capabilities). After the Battle of New York, he was tasked with a special mission deemed easy enough, but after screwing up, was given the job of doing low-priority recon for Director Fury's second-in-command, Maria Hill. He's considered the lowest agent in Level 8 and is constantly looking for a chance to prove himself.
O'Grady is a shady man, often attempting to use his resources at S.H.I.E.L.D. to better his own life instead of humanity. He is good at his job, but his selfish personality leads to rash decisions which, in turn, end in mistakes. He is a womanizer who excels at lying. He is often put in positions to better his character and sometimes actually makes the right decisions...sometimes.

      Vance Astrovik
      Age/Appearance: 23
      Specialty/Level: Communications, Level 5
Personality/Bio: Agent Astrovik doesn't talk about his past much, due to abuse he suffered by his late father. All he's revealed is that he spent some time in jail before being recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D. under a special "probationary program." Vance has a strong sense of morality and hero worship, considering Captain America an example to strive towards. He has a gift for retaining knowledge and is a very capable research.

      Username:
      Boy Wonder
      Real Name: Kyle Ian Adams
      Age/Appearance: 26
      Specialty/Level: Operations, Level 6
Personality/Bio: Agent Adams is considered a physical specimen. After passing all of his examinations with flying colors, he was one of the Academy of Operations' best students in recent years. He is a combat specialist, able to take out groups of armed combatants single-handedly, which earned him the nickname "Captain America, Jr." Since graduating, he has taken many of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s cases where it's risky to send more than one agent.
He is very by-the-book, but has notable emotional issues. While he's usually very well-composed, when he loses it, he loses it.

"What does S.H.I.E.L.D. stand for, Agent Ward?"
"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."
"And what does that mean to you?"
"It means someone really wanted our initials to spell out 'shield.' ... It means we're the line between the world and the much weirder world. We protect people from news they aren't ready to hear. And when we can't do that, we keep them safe."

    S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I swore an oath; we all did. To serve when everything else fails, to be humanity's last line of defense...
    to be the shield.
    "

Based in the US of A, S.H.I.E.L.D. is an international agency that specializes in strange and alien occurrences, tasked with the containment and study of "secrets the world isn't ready for." A highly secretive and globe-spanning organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. is the personification of the modern "spy." After the Battle of New York in 2012, S.H.I.E.L.D. has made a name of itself dealing with superheroes and supervillains, gifted individuals using their incredible gifts for either good or evil. The Battle of New York is the perfect example of this due to the Avengers stopping the evil Asgardian god Loki and his army of alien Chituari forces from taking over the Earth. S.H.I.E.L.D. played an integral part in the formation of the Avengers. Now that the world is safe -from Loki, at least- S.H.I.E.L.D. has been made much more public. One of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s longest-standing missions has been handling the mutant subspecies since the public reveal in 1973, but the organization was formed in the wake of the defeat of Hydra -the advanced science division of the Third Reich- during World War II.

In the wake of the Battle of New York, Level 8 Agent Eric O'Grady has been tasked with forming a task squad to gather intelligence on low-priority subjects. To this end, O'Grady has gone to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academies of Operations, Sci-Tech, and Communications to find recruits for his task squad, as well as taking in graduated Agents of various Levels. Given a military transport aircraft as a mobile base of operations, Agent O'Grady's team will be given missions to search for and investigate certain subjects and events while investigating The Rising Tide 'hacktivist' group.
