Video Shows South Carolinian Police Officer Shooting Unarmed Man
From the looks of it, I don't think this was so much an act of police brutality as much as perceiving something wrong, though I do agree with the actions the department took.

(CNN) -- One moment, a man reaches into his vehicle after a South Carolina trooper asked for his driver's license.

Seconds later, the trooper shoots him, and the man asks why. Days afterward, prosecutors aren't satisfied with the answer.

Authorities released dash-camera video Wednesday showing what they say is Sean Groubert, a decorated South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, shooting Levar Jones, who was unarmed, in the parking lot of a gas station just outside Columbia on September 4.

Jones, 35, survived the shooting. But Groubert, who has since been fired for the incident, has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, a felony that could get him up to 20 years in prison if convicted, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Wednesday.

"The force administered in this case was unwarranted, inconsistent with how our troopers are trained, and clearly in violation of department policies," South Carolina Public Safety Director Leroy Smith said last week in announcing Groubert's firing.

This wasn't the first time Groubert had fired his weapon. He was lauded the previous time: His department gave him a medal of valor for an incident in which he and another trooper shot and injured a man who had shot at them in 2012, SCPSD spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli said.

'Why did you shoot me?'

In this year's incident, police said Groubert, 31, stopped Jones in the parking lot of a Circle K station in daylight, for what police say was an alleged seat belt violation, around 5 p.m.

Video that authorities say was recorded from Groubert's police car shows the trooper driving up to a vehicle just as its driver -- who authorities say is Jones -- steps out of the vehicle.

When Groubert asks for Jones' license, Jones pivots toward the vehicle he just exited -- the driver's door is still open -- and leans inside as if to retrieve something, the video shows.

About two seconds later, the trooper that police identify as Groubert comes into view with a gun drawn and yells "Get out of the car! Get out of the car!" The gun is fired -- at least four shots are heard -- and Jones steps away from the vehicle, raising his hands in the air and eventually moving off camera.

"I just got my license! You said get my license!" says someone off camera, apparently Jones.

After being told to put his hands behind his back, Jones asks: "What did I do, sir?"

"Are you hit?" asks another off-camera voice, apparently Groubert's.

"I think so," comes the response. "I can't feel my leg. I don't know what happened."

The conversation continues:

"Why did you shoot me?"

"Well, you dove head-first back into your car. Then you (unintelligible), I'm telling you get out of your car."

Jones was shot in the hip, CNN affiliate WACH reported. He was taken to a hospital and later released, authorities said.

Jones was found not to be armed, Smith said.

"I believe this case was an isolated incident in which Mr. Groubert reacted to a perceived threat where there was none," Smith said last week.

In a court hearing Wednesday night, a judge ordered Groubert held with bond set at $75,000, WACH reported.

CNN's attempts to reach Groubert's and Jones' lawyers weren't immediately successful.

In explaining Groubert's firing Friday, Smith said the department's policy on using force says that officers can use "only the level of force necessary to accomplish lawful objectives."

"That protocol was not followed in this case. Further, this incident occurred in broad daylight. Mr. Groubert had a clear and unobstructed view of Mr. Jones," Smith said.

The shooting, Smith said, "deviates from SCDPS standards and cannot be tolerated."

Medal of valor

Groubert, who joined the Highway Patrol in 2005, earned kudos for the other time he'd fired his gun in the line of duty.

Police said Groubert stopped a car that had passed him at a high rate of speed in Richland County in August 2012. The driver eventually took off without permission, and Groubert pursued him, police said.

Another trooper joined the pursuit, and the driver stopped at a bank, exited his vehicle and fired shots at both troopers in the parking lot, police said.

Groubert and the other trooper returned fire, injuring the suspect, the SCDPS said. At some point, it appeared that the suspect intended to go inside the bank, Iacobelli said.

That suspect was charged with attempted murder and convicted in 2013, according to the SCDPS.

The SCDPS gave Groubert a medal of valor in 2013 for his handling of the incident, Iacobelli said.

Jimmy John's Confirms Credit Card Breach at 216 Stores

The sandwich chain Jimmy John's confirmed Wednesday that hackers stole customer debit and credit card data from 216 of its stores, making the company the latest victim in a string of cyber attacks against major retailers and restaurants.

A hacker stole login credentials from credit card readers at corporate and franchised locations between June 16 and Sept. 5 of this year, the restaurant chain said in a statement on its website. It learned of the breach on July 30 and hired security experts to help with its investigation.

Jimmy John’s is based in Champaign, Illinois, and has about 1,900 locations. It said the cards impacted were only those swiped at the stores, and not ones entered manually or online. It did not say how many cards were stolen, but said its investigation is still ongoing and it is now safe to use credit and debit cards at its locations.

On its website, the restaurant posted a listing of stores affected by the breach, spanning from Florida to California.

Jimmy John’s also said it has taken steps to tighten security by installing machines that encrypt credit card data and is “reviewing its policies and procedures for its third party vendors.”

While the statement suggested another company may have been the cause of the breach, it did not disclose the company’s name. However, cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs reported nearly two months ago that the theft of cards at Jimmy John's was caused by a cyberattack on a company called Signature Systems, which makes card readers for restaurants.

Krebs reported that banks were seeing a pattern of fraud on cards recently used at Jimmy John’s locations around the country.

Signature Systems did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jimmy John's is one of the several stores hacked within the last year, including Home Depot, Target, Neiman Marcus and P. F. Chang's.

NEW ORLEANS, Sept 24 (Reuters) - A black teenager was shot dead during an altercation with a black police officer investigating reports of armed males entering an abandoned house in a small city near New Orleans, Louisiana state police said on Tuesday.

The altercation between the Terrebonne Parish deputy and the alleged intruders was inside a home in a heavily residential area of Houma, about 57 miles southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana State Police spokesman Evan Harrell said.

A weapon was found "in close proximity" to the 14-year-old victim's body, Harrell said, adding a fifth person was being sought by police after escaping from the home.

The teen who was killed was identified as Cameron Tillman by family members near the scene of the incident, local CBS affiliate WWL-TV reported.

The boy was shot by an officer, Harrell said.

Deputies were responding to 911 emergency calls of armed individuals entering the house, he said.

The shooting was being investigated by state police at the request of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, Harrell said.

Two juveniles and an 18-year-old were arrested, but police were not releasing their identities, Harrell said. The three suspects are facing possible criminal trespassing charges.

The officer is the second cop from the 72nd Precinct in a week to be under investigation by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau after getting caught on video.

An NYPD officer was caught on a disturbing video tackling a clearly pregnant woman and riding her to the ground early Saturday in Brooklyn.

The recording shows Sandra Amezquita, who is 5-foot-4 and five months pregnant, being grabbed by the arm and thrown to the pavement with the cop on her back in Sunset Park around 2:15 a.m.

The baby’s father, Ronel Lemos, said he watched in horror as his wife hit the ground belly-first.

“The first thing I thought was they killed my baby and they’re going to kill my wife,” Lemos, 50, told the Daily News on Tuesday.

Moments later, another unidentified woman was violently flung to the ground on Fifth Ave. and 41st St.

“You would think the police would respect a woman that is pregnant,” Amezquita, 43, said through an interpreter in an exclusive interview with The News.

“I was afraid something happened to my baby. I am still afraid that something is wrong,” she said, referring to the abdominal pain that persists.

Amezquita suffered vaginal bleeding after the incident, and her belly and arm still bear bruises.

She was given a summons for disorderly conduct and her husband was arrested for assaulting a police officer, cops said.

The officer is the second cop from the 72nd Precinct in a week to be under investigation by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau after getting caught on video.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton last week suspended a cop caught on camera kicking a street vendor on Fifth Ave. in Sunset Park as he was being subdued by fellow officers.

Sanford Rubenstein, a civil rights lawyer retained by Amezquita and Lemos, said both videos depicting alleged police brutality were recorded by the same bystander.

“It is incidents like this that account for police-community relations being at an all-time low in New York City,” Rubenstein said.

The cops were arresting the couple’s 17-year-old son, Jhohan Lemos, for possession of a knife clipped to his belt, when the cops were attacked.

The parents said they were responding to cries from their son being beaten when they were set upon by the cops.

Jhohan’s face appears battered and his right eye swollen shut in photos taken after his arrest.

Ronel Lemos was charged with striking Office Elvis Merizalde in the back and shoulder while he was arresting Jhohan, according to the criminal complaint.

Amezquita, the mother of four children, emigrated from Colombia and recently stopped working.

The couple has already selected a name for the unborn baby boy — Kevin.

KTVA reporter Charlo Greene quit her job on live TV last night, outing herself as the owner of an Alaskan cannabis club and declaring "f*ck it".

Having grown weary of reporting the news, Greene told viewers she would instead be putting all her energy into the fight to legalise marijuana in the state, having previously reported on the Alaska Cannabis Club without mentioning her connection to it.

In a jaw-dropping twist to the end of a segment she was presenting, she said: "Now everything you heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska.

"And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f**k it, I quit."

The Alaska Cannabis Club, which connects medical marijuana cardholders with local growers, urged its Facebook followers to tune into KTVA earlier in the evening.

Following Greene's mic drop, the main anchor could only stutter: "Alright we apologise for that….we'll, we'll be right back."

Green has since started an Indiegogo campaign for cannabis reform, explaining in its summary: "I'm Charlo Greene, the president and CEO of the Alaska Cannabis Club - Alaska's only legal medical marijuana resource.

"I just quit my news reporting job on live TV to announce that I am redirecting all of my energy toward helping to end a failed drug policy that has ruined the lives of far too many Americans."

KTVA could only apologise on Twitter, saying rather worryingly (and hopefully erroneously) that Charlo had been "terminated".

"Viewers, we sincerely apologize for the inappropriate language used by a KTVA reporter on the air tonight," it wrote. "The employee has been terminated."

Currently, there's only one avatar for people who have no avatars.

I think it'd be nice if there were no avatar avatars also made for both genders. Using KH-Flare as an example, where @Alice's Nights has done this, something like this:

Fortunately, for me, I'm catching up on Ridiculousness DVR recordings, and even if I weren't, I still have Disney Channel and Disney XD, so nyah to them.

Started on Friday, September 12, when Mozilla Firefox updated from 31.0 to 32.0.1, and it wasn't fixed when I did my weekly browser data cleanup over the weekend, so I'm not sure what else it could be.

When it happens, refreshing the page or posting fixes it. See the two images below:

WEED, Calif. (AP) — A fire driven by fierce winds raced through a small town near the Oregon border on Monday, burning a church to the ground, damaging or destroying 100 homes and prompting evacuation orders for at least 1,500 people, authorities said.

This tiny town near the base of Mount Shasta in the Cascade Mountains was under siege from a 350-acre blaze that surged toward and through it through timberland.

The town sawmill caught fire, and a Catholic church was destroyed.

The blaze erupted around 1:30 p.m. south of Weed, a scenic town of nearly 3,000 located about 50 miles south of the Oregon border and about half way between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon.

"It was fast-moving, fanned by incredibly gusty winds of up to 40 mph," state fire spokesman Daniel Berlant. "It went into and around the town."

Blowing embers started spot fires as much as a half-mile ahead of the fire front, and evacuations were called for Weed and two outskirt subdivisions.

About 1,500 to 2,000 people were ordered to evacuate, said Allison Giannini, spokeswoman for the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department.

The winds began to ease late in the day, and the fire's pace slowed. By dusk it was 15 percent contained, state fire spokeswoman Suzi Brady said.

"We stopped the forward spread of the fire," she said late Monday.

The fire mowed through the area.

"Black land. Very flat. A lot of trees burned, a lot of sad, scared folks," Brady said.

Randy Coates said he and his wife rushed to pick up their daughter when her high school was evacuated. He said that on their way back home, they saw the town's Catholic and Presbyterian churches, houses and backyards on fire. Driving by a wood mill, they saw piles of wood chips on fire.

"As we came out of the high school both sides of the road were on fire," Coates said.

For a while, authorities had to close Interstate 5, the main freeway between California and Oregon, in the area. The fire also knocked out power to most of the town, and people were left wandering the town center with flashlights Monday night.

Weed, historically a lumber town, was named after the founder of a mill, Abner Weed, who "discovered that the area's strong winds were helpful in drying lumber," according to the town's website.

Meanwhile, firefighters were trying to gain better access to two raging wildfires that have forced hundreds to evacuate their homes, including one near a lakeside resort that destroyed nearly two-dozen structures.

In central California, firefighters spent the day working to build and reinforce containment lines in steep terrain near a foothill community south of an entrance to Yosemite National Park. About 600 residents from 200 homes remained evacuated, Madera County sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

The blaze has burned 320 acres and destroyed 61 structures — 33 of them homes — as well as 13 vehicles and four recreational vehicles, CalFire spokesman Dennis Mathisen said. The fire started off a road outside of Oakhurst, near Yosemite, and spread to Bass Lake, a popular year-round destination.

About 650 firefighters were on the scene of the blaze, which is 35 percent contained and has not affected the park, Mathisen said.

Two fire crews returning from 24 hours of fighting the fire got into a crash with a vehicle, CalFire spokesman Ryan Michaels said. No firefighter was injured in the crash; three people in a Nissan that got pinned under a firetruck were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Brad Simpson.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The blaze is the latest to hit the area, which is still reeling from the Junction Fire near downtown Oakhurst that destroyed eight structures earlier this summer.

"I really feel for this community, which has already been through a lot," Mathisen said. "This is yet another example of how the damaging effect of this drought has impacted California."

Farther north, a wildfire about 60 miles east of Sacramento forced the evacuation of 133 homes. El Dorado County sheriff's officials said residents of an additional 406 homes were being told to prepare to flee.

More than 800 firefighters are battling the blaze, which started in a remote area Saturday but exploded Sunday when it reached a canyon full of thick, dry brush. It more than doubled in size to nearly 13 1/2 square miles, and was only 5 percent contained.

A fire crew was forced to deploy a fire shelter on Monday, and no major injuries were reported in the incident, Berlant said.

In Southern California, a fire that forced the evacuation of 200 homes in Orange County's Silverado Canyon over the weekend was started by the sun's rays reflecting off sheet metal that edged a homeowner's backyard garden, officials said Monday.

The 2-foot-tall metal fencing surrounded a vegetable garden and was intended to keep small rodents out, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. The sheet metal ignited a wooden border and nearby grass and then spread.

The homeowner will not be charged or fined for the accidental blaze, Concialdi said.

Evacuation orders were lifted late Sunday as the fire is 80 percent contained. The fire started Friday and grew to 1½ square miles, the U.S. Forest Service said.

Hurricane Odile crashed ashore Sunday night tied for the most intense hurricane on record to strike Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. The large and powerful Category 3 hurricane packed sustained winds of 125 mph as its eye passed very near the popular vacation destination Cabo San Lucas. Reports and photos are just beginning to trickle in and, based on early accounts, the damage appears to be devastating.

The storm has weakened modestly but continues to batter the Baja Peninsula with sustained winds up to 110 mph, torrential rain, coastal flooding and “large and destructive” waves, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Odile’s size, strength, and track was and is a worst case scenario for this region. The storm’s angle of approach positioned much of the Peninsula for its strongest winds and – for coastal locations – its biggest waves and storm surge.

“It’s very rare to get a major hurricane [ category 3 or higher] to reach the Baja Peninsula,” said Brian McNoldy, Capital Weather Gang’s tropical weather expert. “I found just two previous storms in the records to make landfall as major hurricanes: Kiko (1989) and Olivia (1967).”

McNoldy said Odile’s intensity exceeded Kiko’s and matched Olivia’s. “Specifically in Cabo San Lucas, it was the most intense landfall,” McNoldy added.

After riding out Odile at a hotel near Cabo, California-based storm chaser Josh Morgerman, who has experienced numerous landfalling hurricanes, called Odile “one of the worst cyclones I’ve ever been in.”

Morgerman posted eyewitness reports on Facebook as the storm slammed his location, including this harrowing account as the eyewall passed directly overhead:

Morgerman later reported: “Parts of the hotel are smashed beyond recognition.”

Weather Underground meteorologist Jeff Masters noted a personal weather station near San Jose del Cabo recorded winds of 76 mph and gusts to 114 mph between 11 and 11:30 p.m. local time Sunday night. An automatic weather station of the National Weather Service in Cabo San Lucas recorded (before it stopped operating) winds of 90 mph with gusts to 116 mph.

Ahead of the storm 64 shelters had been prepared for as many as 30,000 people along the Baja Peninsula’s southern tip where the storm made landfall. The two largest population centers there, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, contain about 140,000 people.

After Odile rides up the Baja Peninsula – substantially weakening along the way – its remnants are expected to reach the U.S. Desert Southwest Tuesday through Thursday, where flooding rains will be a possibility.

Support Solved Corrupt Data on Memory Cards

I just got done doing a lot of cleaning on my memory cards.

Of the two PlayStation memory cards I have, I got everything I didn't delete on the first memory card, and of the three PlayStation 2 memory cards I have, I got everything I didn't delete on the first memory card. However, the first PlayStation 2 memory card, that's essentially full, has some corrupt data on it and the second PlayStation 2 memory card just has one corrupt data file on it.

My question is how do I delete corrupt data? Because it won't let me. It let me delete corrupt data that had KB, but corrupt data with "? KB" cannot be deleted.

Also, and this is kind of off topic, but why do PlayStation memory cards not show the last date a game was saved? PlayStation 2 memory cards do.
