Well, I will not trust her with the secret of how to kill Dracula until she relaxes about us... and the girls, for that matter. Edward directed the thought at Van Helsing and Michael.
How do we get her to trust us? Edward asked suddenly, not sure if Michael would have an answer. I mean, I thought I would let Van Helsing do all the talking, but he's not doing that well so far.
And that's his way of being friendly, Edward said in response to Michael, jerking his head in Van Helsing's direction as they walked. Stupid sometimes, isn't he?
She won't guess a thing, Edward thought, not wanting Anna or Van Helsing to hear. Will probably mistrust and hate you for not being able to figure it out... that sounds about right, judging by her character so far.
"There are magicians," Edward commented sideways at Michael. "People born with abilities that don't have to be a vampire or werewolf to be able to use thoughts to communicate and pry. I don't like the assumptions she makes."
How does she know that? Edward thought to himself. I never said a word about what I am...
"Your thoughts," Edward replied smoothly to Anna, leaning away from the tip of her gun. "Another thing that can help us later, if you'd let us past the front steps."
Thanks, Edward said sideways to Michael, trying not to smile.
"It's about Dracula, miss," Edward began suddenly, looking at Anna. "We know..." he faded, leaning forward slightly, lowering his voice. "We know his only weakness. Wouldn't you and your family... your brother," he added suddenly, pulling at her thoughts. "Your brother Velkan would be happy to hear you know how to kill Dracula."
Oh, that's not smart, Edward snapped at Van Helsing, unsure if he was paying attention to him or not.
Edward kept his mouth shut, trying his best not to look through Anna's mind.
"I wouldn't be, if I were her," Edward commented, straining his ears. "I'd welcome help, since it seems like such a lonely life..."
Edward couldn't help but laugh under his breath, folding his arms across his chest, straightening the collar of his black silk shirt.
"I doubt anyone that's not in the main foyer will hear that," Edward commented.
Edward kissed Hannah's cheek briefly before stepping to catch up with Van Helsing. "What exactly are you going to say to this girl when you knock on her front door?"
"Do you mind if I go with him?" Edward whispered to Hannah. "I want to know what's said."
"Well, shall we?" Edward asked, reaching to open the carriage door.
"Okay," Edward said uneasily. "I'm just worried for you, you know."
"I don't understand," Edward began, unsure. "What do you mean?"
"Okay," Edward said slowly. "I don't know what 'stopping you' entains, but I'm sure it includes stopping you from getting angry, or distracting you from that emotion... I think I can manage that."
