They've lost it. They're gonna go "bye-bye" pretty soon at this rate...to us. The little ones still love Pokemon and that's why it's even alive today. To be honest, they lost it at the third generation.

There's only two theories I can think of right now. When Ansem the Wise's machine blew up, Riku was no longer darkness, right? Well, I think the machine's explosion had also had an effect on the Soul Eater. I think it configured it's appearance and powers. The other theory I have is that when Riku walked on the "road to dawn", he had gained the Way to the Dawn then. When Riku met Ansem and chose the darkness, Riku never used it to hide his identity against the light since Mickey had stated "His eyes couldn't lie."
